Yeah they clearly weren't going to make the September date with this anymore! And of course at this rate we probably won't get Series 8 Capaldi until long after Series 9 has already concluded.

Sigh.

Just checked BCS page.
Updated shipping date: End October - November 2015.

This has been the updated "approximate" ship schedule for a while now. According to BCS, this is tentatively expected to be available in November.

Says the same for the 12th Doctor and Eleven's TARDIS is November as well :horror If these all stay on schedule, it will be a busy couple of months!!!

The last update I received from BC regarding the Tardis (I only asked about the 10th's, but I'm assuming both will ship around the same time) is that it is not expected before the first part of next year.

Twelve was pushed back two months from September to November and if it doesn't ship then I'm prepared to be extremely annoyed with BCS since they will have had all of my pre-order money for 5+ months. But I'm assuming it will ship then because I think they are well aware that they can only hold on to people's money for so long with no explanation. Eleven shipped on time so I don't understand what the delay is with Twelve, but whatever, it is what it is. What will be interesting to see if Ten also ships then (or earlier) even though it's been in the pipeline for a much shorter length of time. Maybe Twelve and Ten will be both be released at pretty much the same time, but frankly I wouldn't be surprised if Ten didn't show up until the end of this year or even early next year.

Yeah both of mine have been paid off for quite a while as well. And whatever the hold up is on Twelve, it clearly can't be because of the complexity of the figure, because it probably has to be one of the simplest they've ever had to make.

I really want a 10 in my collection but I'm not the biggest fan of his blue suit. Is this likely to be the last 10 Big Chief release?

I wasn't into 1/6 as much as I am now and now kick myself for looking at the pre-order screen for the brown suit ( my favourite ) and not ordering so just caved and ordered this one. hopefully they will re-release some variation including a brown suit sometime I already see they posted a 9/10 regenerated version.

The regenerated version is the upcoming 9th Doctor release that includes the alternate 10th Doctor head sculpt.

I'm thinking about getting this, but i am not thrilled with the hair, I like the 1st release better, but no way to get that one for a reasonable price. What is the consensus on the quality of this line? Are they closer to Sideshow or Hot Toys in quality?

Before answering your question, I think it worth mentioning that many of us who are long time Dr. Who collectors often end up being very picky, (myself included), and as such have rather high expectations when it comes to quality. This being said, I have found the BCS Dr. Who 1/6 series to be among my favorites. I have every 1/6 Dr. Who release to date, and have found them all to be top notch, and similar to what you might expect from Hot Toys.

Producing quality 1/6 costumes for Dr. Who is essential for success, and Big Chief has consistently hit home runs in this department. So far the only real disappointment has come in the form of the first Amy Pond head sculpt, and BCS did a great job of responding by releasing an alternate head sculpt to replace the first one.

When I first saw the head sculpt for the Series 4 10th Doctor, I wasn't crazy about it either...mostly because I thought the first release was perfect. Since then, I have come to like this sculpt and am excited to have this version in hand, especially as I love the blue suit with red chucks combo.

Thanks Warpsmith. I love both new and classic Doctor Who but I am just looking for one 1/6 figure to represent the Doctor and to me it's got be either 4 or 10. Something about 4 didn't look right to me so I passed on it- though if I had seen the alternative smiling head that's available now I may have gotten 4. But, that's sold out now and it looks like the moment is almost here to decide on this version of 10 before it comes and goes too. I do like the blue suit and red Chucks and the tailoring on the thin body looks perfect. The hair looks a bit too clumpy and the strands too thick, granted Tennant's spiky hair is obviously a challenge. The sculpts of the faces that Big Chief does seem to be really good and both Tennant versions seem really good. My only other question is if the sculpt and paint apps have a more "lifelike" skin tone and texture like Hot Toys or is it closer to Sideshow quality in that department?

I don't have space to get into collecting the whole 1/6 DR Who line and I have all the Doctor's in 5inch scale already. Thanks again for the feedback, I am looking forward to hearing more from you and others. I am glad that you are happy with the line of figures they have made so far :)

Just to clear and so you are not disappointed - the BCS figures are not Hot Toys quality yet.
That is not to say they aren't nice figures because they are. Just be aware that they are quite expensive and a slight step down.

You only need to look at the official pics themselves to see most of that. The suits are a little too baggy and pyjama like, the coats a little too bulky.
The sculpts aren't as heavily textured or detailed as Hot Toys. (Amy Pond was an outlier so we won't discuss her)
They are definitely above Sideshow's quality (including paint jobs which have had some nice subtleness) and they seem to be improving and refining with each release.

I've owned the first Matt Smith and the limited numbered/signed Sherlock/Watson set.
I'm wavering on both the 2nd Smith and Capaldi but the tailoring on the clothing still isn't that great IMO Especially on the coats/jackets again...others may disagree.
The leather jacket on the ninth Doctor looks great and is easily the best outerwear clothing they have done IMO ...I probably will cave and order him for that reason!

kinda plottin on new ten, will depend on how it looks inhand. love my og ten but paint on face/skin color is so damn orange its off-putting at times and even tho sculpt is good doesnt remind me of ten. do love it tho none-the less. just nit picking really in the hopes new 10 is that much better.

Yes, their paintwork has improved considerably since at least the 4th Doctor. I can't see the new 10th Doctor figure not being a big improvement over the original in that regard, though to be fair I've never seen the original in person. Is wouldnt out them at Hot Toys quality but they're close and far above Sideshow.

You are welcome! :)

I've been collecting action figures since the late 60's and own many different scale figures, starting from 28mm, right up to the larger size scale. Over time, one thing I have found remaining constant is that you will often find variations in quality existing within the same release, or from one figure to the next produced by the same company. I own plenty of Hot Toys figures, and have found a mixture of both "knock it out of the park" head sculpts/paint apps, and ones that are good, but not necessarily great.

Amy Pond Version One aside, the BCS head sculpts have been very well done; I have both 4th Doctor head sculpts, and the only big difference is the different use of flesh tones, with the first looking pale in comparison to the much warmer looking smiling version. As a miniatures painter, I sometimes find there are minor adjustment I like to make, such as wanting to touch up the paint on the smiling versions teeth...I notice things like this, as I tend to scrutinize paint details like a scientist with a microscope, details that don't necessarily stand out, that not everyone notices or would even care about. Overall, I have been very satisfied with the quality of their sculpts and the paint apps. So far, I would say their head sculpts have been a bit better than the paint apps. A good example of this is some of the repaints that have been done to the 4th Doctor. I also know that the quality that can be achieved by a custom repaint is unlikely to be achieved when talking about a run of 1000 to 2000 figures.

If I were you I would buy the new version of the 10th Doctor, and keep your eyes peeled for and alternate head to go with him, such as the one coming out with the 9th.

I agree with some of what you say, but not all. I do like many Hot Toys releases, but I think many collectors put them on a pedestal that is higher than it should be.

I have found the tailoring on the BCS outfits to be first rate, and not baggy at all; the outfits on the 4th, both versions of the 11th, the 10th, and the 1st Doctor are worth every penny. I honestly can't imagine these outfits being much better. The only thing that looks baggy to me are the pants on the 4th Doctor, and that's exactly how they are suppose to look. The outer coats on all the Doctors are beautiful, and I often find myself staring at them as the quality is spot on.

Could the paint apps be a bit better?...possibly...for example when first opening some of the Hot Toys Avengers releases such as Agent Coulson, Loki, and the second Black Widow releases to name a few, I thought the head sculpt textures were impressive. In comparison, I don't think there is a big difference in quality when looking at the paint apps on the First, 10th or 12th Doctors...I love them all. Also, no matter how many pictures you look at, it's a must to have these figures in hand to know their true quality.

I have bits and pieces of the first Eleven, the complete Four (two of them), and the complete 2nd release Eleven with the extra Capaldi head. Yes, the earlier releases (including the Sherlock figures) left a lot to be desired, but the jump in quality over the last few releases has been amazing. There is almost no improvement that could be made to the series 7 Smith either in terms of the sculpt or the costume and I would definitely rank it up there with Hot Toys. Just one example of the improvement in tailoring is the remarkable amount of detail on the back pockets of Eleven's jeans that was really unexpected because with the long coat you don't even see it -- and yet they went to the trouble of adding it anyway. I expect the second release Ten to be more of the same in terms of quality although at the moment what I'm really doing is counting the days until the series 8 Twelve is FINALLY released.

I am not a fanboy of Hot Toys, nor do I put them on a pedestal. Their shift in business model to nothing but superheroes means I have no real interest in them at all. BCS with Doctor Who, Sherlock (and bring on Luther!) are far more interesting to me....as is almost every other company at this point.
I can however recognize that Hot Toys in general produces a higher quality product.

Will have to agree to disagree on the coats of BCS figures being too bulky ...I can only say I'm definitely not the only one that thinks that and it is quite common to see across the BCS threads. As we both agree though, they are improving with each release.
(I didn't mention in my original post but I do think Watson was probably actually the best clothing they have done. He was quite impressive...doesn't get much props though since he is the supporting character)

I'm glad to hear and see that the Sherlock figures are looking good...although I love the show I'm not a big enough fan to collect them.

Moriarty in particular looks like it's going to be a terrific figure! :)
