Wow, that was easy! Preordered and paid the deposit on my Limited Edition Sherlock figure.
Have to say, I was wavering about this one, but the gallery they posted made up my mind. I was very critical of the paint job when I saw the earlier pictures but I'm always fair (like Sherlock I suffer from Asperger's and in my case I'm incapable of not telling it how I see it!) and I'm happy to retract my previous opinion of the paint job on both figures (I'm assuming the paint job hasn't changed). In these pictures it looks much more natural, the grey wash isn't so apparent. So, I take back what I said before - the pictures obviously gave me the wrong impression. Everything else is stellar too, fabulous tailoring and accessories. The sculpt has grown on me massively - again, maybe the fact that the paint job looks better has drawn out the sculpt. I thought it was too neutral, but actually it's an incredibly subtle sculpt that looks fine in a range of poses and you can read a range of moods into it. Or put it another way, genius.
Although I couldn't possibly afford Watson, the paint job looks better there too, much less cartoony, although the head looks a bit big to me (but that was the case with the Eleventh Doctor pictures and he looks fine in hand). That aside Watson looks brilliant - I didn't think I'd want him but if I could afford him I would buy it in a heartbeat, and not just to accompany Sherlock - the figure has a real presence of its own and reminds me how important the character is tot he show. Would love to have this figure with a gun in its hand standing on my shelf. Again, the sculpt is genius - you can read a real range of moods into it, which is perfect for a figure that can be posed with a walking stick or a gun.
So for now I'm happy to eat my words and I hope I get the chance to do so again when Sherlock arrives, some time next year.
I know I've suggested this before but with my journalist head on here's some good advice: BC ought to send Caitlin Moran at The Times a free sample of the Sherlock figure (hell, both figures) she would LOVE it and if she was to write about them you'd get real cut through, outside of the core market and into a market of people who may not know about 1/6 figures but have the money for luxury items (affluent people looking for unusual birthday presents for Sherlock fans, etc).
Anyway, can't wait for this, it's going to be a long year.
