More confirmation that Blu-Ray rocks.

The war between Blu-ray and HD DVD rages on, but this week the battle looks particularly one-sided.

HD DVD has only one exclusive release this Tuesday (and not even a very good one), which can’t counter-balance the nine exclusive Blu-ray titles. Now, one could see this as merely a slow week for the format’s proponents—Universal has the one title, and Paramount has zilch—or maybe Fox, Sony and MGM have simply realized that the holidays are fast approaching, and that … well, this is a war! Whatever the case, HD DVD loyalists will find little to drool over this week. As for the Blu-ray fans, they’ll find three day-and-date releases plus a high-def 28 Days Later to supplement its impressive new-release sequel.

Have a look at this week’s HD releases after the jump.

Wow, one sided indeed!

I think I am going to hold off on buying an HD player and wait 'til Paramount's Exclusive deal is over (18 Months) to see if Transformers will come to Blu-Ray. Besides my SD DVD's are looking great on my PS3.

It's going to be hard to wait that long...

But then again by that time they'll have an affordable dual format player.

Wow, I have interest in ONE of those BR titles and that Edward Sissorhands. Nothing else on the list will be purchased by me.

I honestly don't care who wins since I have both now, but BR can put out a bunch of B list stuff ( in my opinion ) if they like, but it won't spark sales. Not to mention a lot of people already have a lot of these on regular DVD and I don't see many people re-buying entire collections.

I think what's going to really matter are NEW movie releases. Plus HUGE hits like Star Wars, LOTR and such.

I agree Jason, if Star Wars and / or Lord of the Rings was announced exclusively for just Blu-Ray or HD DVD, the war would be over in my opinion.

Yeah, I think Harry Potter would have been big for one side or the other as well, but it's being released on both so no real gain by either side there.

exactly. they are pumping out catalog building movies that have been out on DVD for years and dont warrant another purchase on the more expensive format. Edward Scissorhands???? come on, unless its a 20 year anniversary or really something spectacular nobody is gonna buy them.

Transformers has received a 5 star review for picture and audio quality on HD DVD at highdefdiscnews.

This release is definitely alone the one best reason to buy and/or own a HD DVD Player.

I assume that a lot of HD DVD supporters will be seeing this in high def next week:

oh man i cant wait to get my HDTV. im thinking about taking the plunge next weekend. there's a 50" samsung 720p DLP for $999 at circuit city that has been calling my name.

Hell yeah Tom!!! I have my order with Amazon in.

I rented 28 Days Later from Netlfix in BR this week and I have to say it was by far the worst looking BR movie I've ever seen. The transfer was horrible and it honestly looked worse than the standard DVD.

I finally made the foray into the HD market. I purchased my very first big screen tv, a 42" LG 1080p LCD HD TV. I got it on sale at Sears for a pretty decent price $1,099.99, regular price $1,700.

I can't wait to pick it up this morning.:chew: Transformers is going to look so freak'n sweet, when it comes out on Tuesday.:monkey5

Wow, nice deal man, congrats! I just paid about that much for a 37" 1080p.

I just bought a new TV too, a couple weeks ago. I went with a Panasonic 50" 1080p.

EVERYTHING looks amazing on it. BD look great obviously, but even standard def DVDs look great. I am getting HDTV programming Monday, so I cant wait for that. Monday Night Football is gonna look SICK:rock

Football is siiiiiick in HD. Any sport for the most part, even friggin golf looks nothing short of amazing. Enjoy.

I picked up a PS3 last week and watched PotC-DMC and Underworld. Underworld looked great but the dark scenes in PotC didn't look very good.

Strange, I think that both Pirate movies are reference quality, through and through.

My BD collection is growing, slowly but surely.

Final Fantasy:The Spirits Within
300
Sleepy Hallow
Ghost Rider
House of 1000 Corpses
PotC 1
PotC 2
Bram Stokers Dracula
Halloween
Hellboy
AeonFlux
Casino Royale

Well 28 Days Later is not really the movie to go BR for. It's the worst looking in any format. But it works in it's favor.
It was shot on Mini DV for that documentary feel. (720x576i apparently) Looked really crappy in the cinema as well. So you can't get any more detail out of it than the original resolution. What you get is really just standard dvd resolution upscaled to 1080p or whatever. Only the last 5 minutes was shot on film.
