Has anyone seen all the Blu-Ray sales this week... to counter the Transformers release ?

BOGO all over... BB, CC, Frys, Amazon...

I picked up six already. Can't beat $10/$12 Hi-Def Madness !

Yeah, they were having a good sale here, I got Halloween, Aeonflux, Hellboy, Casino Royale, & Bram Stokers Drac for $100.

Lucky? That down right pisses me off! LOL! I want Transformers on Blue Ray! :maul

quit crying!!! all you 360 owners have no excuses. for $180 you get a HD player with 6 free movies.

It's fast reaching a point where it doesn't make much sense to pick one format or the other any more. I can understand people wanting to wait out the war (by not choosing EITHER side), but if you want hi-def movies, you really need both formats. Otherwise you are bound to miss out on some titles that you really want. And with player prices falling, by the end of the year you will be able to buy good players for both formats (and receive a bunch of free movies) for a bit less than the cost of ONE good player in either format a year ago.

For those of you that are planning to pick up Transformers tomorrow, where are you going?

I'm going to Circuit City, they will be giving out a free hat (looks to have the Autobots insignia on the front) for the first 20 customers, and a free digital download card (whatever that is?)

Not interested in Best Buy's free lithograph, and don't know what Target, and Wal*Mart will be giving away, if anything, but it will be a few bucks cheaper at Wally World.

I'm waiting on the next gen dual player, if it can play all the features on both formats.
By the way I've never got an answer to region coding. If I buy an european player (HD or BR or dual) can I buy US discs or do I have to wait for europan releases or should I just buy a US player from the start?

What's this "6 free movies" you speak of? I've actually been considering the purchase of the 360 HD DVD player.

Go to amazon.com, they've got a deal (at least last time I checked) where you get 300 on HD-DVD plus the 5 movies mail-in deal if you get the Xbox HD-DVD addon.

Just a note but I haven't gotten my HD-DVD's yet from when I bought mine on like August 7th.

As for european players, check the player and see if it plays region 1 discs and check the discs to see if they are region 1 only, if they can play region 1 then they'll play US discs, otherwise you'd have to get a US player to play those discs.

yeah there's a mail in coupon or something i believe. it comes packaged with Kong, but you have to wait for the other 5 to come in the mail.
~~blu ray has the same deal going so whatever format you dont have, this is the perfect time to jump on it.

I threw away 10 free movies ( 5 Blu Ray and 5 HD DVD ). I bought both from Best Buy and had the rebate forms and recipts. Didn't know I needed the bar codes cut from the boxes and I NEVER keep boxes so I had already chucked the boxes. Oh well....only threw away about $300 in movies. :lol:monkey2

I get a gift card from my company for $300 in a couple of weeks for my 7th year of service so it's safe to say that will go towards Blu Ray and HD DVD discs.

oh man that sucks.... luckily i keep my boxes for a while, but i need to remember to send in movie coupon the same day i get the system.

Fry's also has a Blu-Ray sale going on guys, a lot of good titles for $9.99!!

I got: Bram Stoker's Dracula, Sleepy Hollow ($19.99), Hellboy & Underworld for like $60 shipped. :rock

Is the PS3 still the cheapest option for blu-ray? I'm planning on going format neutral sometime before the end of this year.

I think that a $400 PS3 is your best bet for Blu-ray right now. Some of the stand alone players are having some problems playing recent titles and will continue to have problems with material resulting from the 1.1 spec. (It's still hard to believe that after a year, they are just now settling upon a universal tech spec that is going to leave early adopters in the dust.) However, the PS3 has had some pretty frequent firmware updates and mine has had no problems whatsoever playing movies. So good quality, good price and easy updates make it a very good bet.

Just one problem--the Blu-ray remote doesn't have an ON/OFF button. My biggest complaint!
