Re: Boromir Maquette...Buy NOW!!. Links in 1st post !!.

Yeah, I don't think this is fading anytime soon. This is the type of collectible where it all started. I've felt from the start this one would have the best chance because I think ringers like polystone statues. There is just something about getting a box opening it up and smelling fresh polystone. Especially, so when it's from one of the best stories ever.

Unfortunately the LSB's and dio's were all polystone as well, but that didn't prevent those lines from failing. But you're right, this line has a completely different "feel" to it. I think it's pretty apparent since day 1 SS really wanted to create a classic, timeless line of polystone statues unrivaled in quality....and they have done a magnificant job so far. And if SS's commitment wasn't apparent after the 1st four maquettes, it certainly was in my mind when they brought in the finest headsculptor in the world, Trevor Grove, to redo the Boromir and Arwen portraits. Personally, I can hardly wait to see what SS has in store for us with the 2nd wave of maquettes......Eomer, Faramir, a Prologue Elf....Buckle up, I think were in for quite a ride. :yess:

Re: Boromir Maquette...Buy NOW!!. Links in 1st post !!.

Done and Done. Boromir EX ordered. Think I may have to seek out Aragorn EX next. Will have to think about trading or selling one of my other pieces to make room for these guys.

Not sure if I will pick any others up. If they release a Theoden I could see getting him if it was good. Then I would have my three fav characters.

Re: Boromir Maquette...Buy NOW!!. Links in 1st post !!.

Two points I wanna make quickly:

1. Gandalf will sell out eventually like Tom said. In addition to what him and Colin listed, also the fact that GTG PF came out relatively close to the maquette, a few of us wondered if it was bad timing for the maquette. I think it'll be fine though as we go along, and I'm glad because I have a Gandalf back in my collection.

2. The big difference between this line and the 12", dios, LSBs in my opinion is that those lines lost steam and dropped right off, this line is gaining steam and momentum.

Re: Boromir Maquette...Buy NOW!!. Links in 1st post !!.

I also wonder if the "sculpt it and paint it" approach is somewhat easier (relatively speaking) than all the work that goes into creating and assembling all of the components of a 12" figure that will sell for less than half the cost. I hope the maquettes will be popular and profitable for SS to keep the line going. They could do four or five a year and still have key characters missing for a long time. I have a large curio cabinet that I would love to fill with these things.

Yes, those lines were polystone as well but the difference is we started out collecting individual statues made of polystone. LOTR collectors seem to be more into these type of pieces than say busts or dio's. I agree with you that anyone with doubts should probably check those at the door now.

I would think it would be easier because of the difficult nature of the costumes of the characters living in Middle Earth. Announcing wise I could see them getting in that 6-7 range but not much past that since these are coming in at $250 at the most per piece. It may take a while to get everyone we want but I do see us getting there.

Re: Boromir Maquette...Buy NOW!!. Links in 1st post !!.

I'd say six would be ideal for me, but a new announcement every other month might overwhelm some collectors and they'd start passing on certain characters. The pace has to be affordable but not too slow. But I'm a few pieces away from having basically all the characters I want and have room for in the Star Wars PF line, and I can easily see the LOTR maquettes becoming my primary focus after the PF Droids are ordered. (Leaving room for Chewbacca, of course.)

Re: Boromir Maquette...Buy NOW!!. Links in 1st post !!.

Right going too fast would cause issues for some ordering so staying around where they're at now is probably the smart bet IMO. It allows you to get them all so far with the pace even though they're $200+ I agree the LOTR line is my #1 focus everything else fits in right behind it.

Re: Boromir Maquette...Buy NOW!!. Links in 1st post !!.

Now since this statue has Boromir in his armour, I hope the PF has him in this outfit, complete with fur cape! I had a better pic, but couldn't find it. :(

It is true that the arrival of the GTG PF did coincide with the the pre-order date of the maquette and there were a small number of posters here who were considering the maquette, but opted for the PF instead, but those numbers were minimal....at least if the numbers on this board are any indication. I think the biggest reason for the slower response to the maquette is a sluggish economy in conjunction with a general oversaturation of that particular character. Let's face it, there's at least 10,000+ SSW Gandalf's floating around and other than some likeness issues I have with the statue, overall it is quite nice. And seeing as it is a good representation of that character people may not feel the need to upgrade the way they have with the SSW Aragorn and Legolas. The other problem with having so many SSW's Gandalf's out there is the horrendous secondary value. You have to wonder how many collectors who already have the SSW version want to add the SS maquette to their collections when the retail price is about 5X as much as the secondary value of the one they already possess? :dunno

And there's no doubt the other lines you mentioned eventually dropped off the map, but that I believe was primarily due to some poor decisions and execution on SS's part.....and we haven't seen any of that where the maquette line is concerned. The character decisions and composition have been very sound, and the execution has been outstanding.

Re: Boromir Maquette...Buy NOW!!. Links in 1st post !!.

Too many different "lines" for lotr, it's kind confusing. But i like the "Polystone Statue" line best, all of the ones made have good exclusive, edition size and very detailed figure and cool poses. Also prices are reasonable.

They need to start making the hobbits next, to round out the fellowship!

Re: Boromir Maquette...Buy NOW!!. Links in 1st post !!.

I agree about Gandalf, it's a nice statue, even though the likeness on the maquette is better. If you could have that head sculpt on the SSW statue, i'd be in dreamland!
Also majorly agree about the dioramas.... i was very excited when they announced that line, with its many possibilities..... but they messed up with some very strange decisions. Gandalf vs the balrog should have been the bridge scene, i don't care about scale issues, the mini GTG on the diorama we got wasn't exactly great anyway.... Frodo should have linked somehow to the ringwraith base on the 'Shades' diorama........ Sauron should have been fighting Isildur and looked a bit more.... well, a bit more like Sauron. And they certainly ended on a whimper with the cartoony Aragorn vs KOTD.

The PF's, if i may comment on a line i don't collect, have been largely good but with a few bad ones in there, but look stunning all displayed together, and this new maquette line is brilliant, with the exception of GTG (likeness aside). The only thing stopping me from ordering more is the shipping and taxes from the US and now with the payment you have to make upon ordering.

You're right. I was collecting the diorama line till the Saruman VS GTG came out. I never liked the way Gandalf looked on it.

Crack of Doom was a great start to the line (a Trevor job I do believe) and I even liked the Aragorn VS. Uruk-Hai when I had it...eventually I stopped collecting the line and I sold them both. Although, I always wanted the Fell Beast VS. Eagle piece.

I'm really enjoying this new line and am very excited. Showed my wife Boromir, she thought it was very cool with the flag of Gondor.

It just stinks we have to wait so long for it.

At least Legolas should be coming next month.

I hate to break it to you guys, but Boromir's Gondorian cloak isn't made of fur, bearskin or otherwise...it's velvet with fur trim. And rumour has it the fur trim used on the actual cloak was brush tail possum. An animal that enjoys vermin status in NZ. I believe New Zealanders look at possum's the way we look at the rat's. :lol

Good move, it sounded like you were heading that way. :)

I'd try to track down Aragorn sooner rather than later, it seems a lot of people have been trying to do that lately, I think it'll dry up soon and then prices will go up.

Especially since it's the first piece in the line.

Re: Boromir Maquette...Buy NOW!!. Links in 1st post !!.

I really like this...the only thing that is making me think twice about it is the fact that it is 24" tall. I don't know where I would put it unless I get rid of Sauron. :(

Re: Boromir Maquette...Buy NOW!!. Links in 1st post !!.

you can always figure out where you are going to put it after you get it. :)

I didn't realize it was 2 feet tall, wow.

Re: Boromir Maquette...Buy NOW!!. Links in 1st post !!.

How has this not sold out yet, the exclusive at least?

I predict this will be the first sell out of the SDCC releases. :D

Also, I'm glad the wall piece shrank on this statue from concept to prototype shown.

Also, yes, I only need one per quarter in this line. Any more would be a stretch for me as I'm in credit payoff mode. The prospect of Arwen arriving so quickly on the heels of Boromir has me worrying. I honestly don't think I can justify her at this time...

:(
