A bowen Full size statue is a statue between 1/5 and 1/6....this will be in scale with the rest of the Bowen full size line ....and will go perfectly with his last FS Hulk...I dont know where you guys got that it was 1/4 or Sideshow's size....

No, it's not.

A Bowen F/S statue is 1/7 to 1/8th scale. The have to be over 12" tall, and in order to do this, they have to have a stand to stand on in order to be that tall.

They use the general scheme of a 6 foot tall character, which would equal 10.25" tall. Thus why they need the stands to meet with licensing issues.

This is going to be a badass piece! Already got my green hulk on the way to match it!

Like all Bowen pieces this statue is 1/8 scale. :lecture

The reason it looks bigger is cause the Abomination is HUGE just like the Hulk.

Also the angle that the picture was taken in makes the piece look larger.

Bowen has been making full size statues and mini busts of Marvel characters since around 1998. At that point no one was making anything quality in the way of Marvel high end collectibles that really caught on with solid numbers, yet still limited enough to be collectible. He's still in business and has loads of fans. As well as imitators. he isn't following any one else's lead. But lots of folks have followed his. While Sideshow's stuff is superior, if not for Bowen showing that this could be done successfully, well....

Also, in 1998 Sideshow was only making Universal monsters 8" figures. They've come far. So has Bowen Designs. Bowen deserves a little respect. His items still seem to command a good selling price on the secondary market. There are exceptions. Kraven, anyone? Howabout Bucky? The Abomination is a companion piece to his Hulk II statue. The one he did in bronze. It's not a 1/4 scale to fight the Sideshow Hulk. Amen.

Actually, pre-1998 both Bowen and Sideshow were in the Garage Kit market. Some of Bowen's Kits made it to statue form. Sadly, none of Sideshow's kits have made an appearance again. When Todd Toys (McFarlane) started making action figures with detail as good as some garage kits, that kinda was the start of the collectible figure market. Sideshow took this route to get to where they are, while Bowen went straight from kits to statues.

I am aware of the garage kit phenomenon. I have many early Monsters in resin. I also have/have had some of Bowen's stuff he did for Graphitti pre 1998. The Shadow bust is a particular favorite. But I believe 1998 is when he acquired the Marvel license and started the high end Marvel ball rolling. My emphasis was simply on the Marvel high end craze. To the best of my knowledge, he started all of that. McFarlane hasn't sculpted any Marvel toys that I know of. Before Bowen, we had stupid primitive bisque, and vinyl models from Horizon. Bowen set the bar. Anyone who came afterward, no matter how well done or even superior, owes a debt to Bowen. kind of like how many comic book artists today owe a lot to Kirby, Ditko, Everett, Kane, Siegel and Shuster, etc. al. I am sure some of their stuff seems primitive compared to some of today's artist who have benefit of digital enhancement. But without Kirby, Ditko and company there would be no level to attempt to surpass.

I collect Bowen. I collect Sideshow. They both have many quality pieces.

:lecture The above statement is the truth. In addtion to that, someone who has been exposed to BD's product a long time ago may have no idea how great the current stuff is. As far as scale comparisons go, Bowens FS stuff is roughly the same scale as SSC's dio line. I know this because those are the two Marvel lines I collect these days. Even though they are totally different styles, they actually go very well with each other.

SSC makes fantastic stuff, and Bowen makes fantastic stuff too. The "all other companies VS Sideshow" mentality around here gets so old, especially when some people seem to have no idea what they are talking about when it comes to the other companies. Reading these threads, you would think SSC, Medicom, and Bowen were NFL teams or something :lol :rotfl

Abomination looks great by the way. I'm pretty sure I saw some shots of the proto next to the BD FS Hulk at statueforum a short while back, and IIRC they looked really great together.

Any Hulk fans needs to buy that Abom statue.I know I will.;)

Well said bro. Like you, I love GREAT products, not great companies. IMO companies tend to let you down if you place all your cards on just one.

If you guys don't have a Bowen Hulk II statue, this is the time to get one.

Agree on all counts. Besides many of the same sculptors who work on Sideshow Products (Andy Bergholtz for example) also work for companies like DC Direct. Mr. B. has a stunning Wonder Woman museum/mixed media statue being released soon.

exactly, standing on the shoulders of giants but to say bowen is cutting edge is a joke.......look at all the companies now imitating SS with the 1/2 scale busts & mixed media 1/4 scale

cutting edge for choice of character, not scale. i'd be surprised if anyone from ss has ever even heard of abomination. only BOWEN has a complete marvel selection, hundreds more than ss. to say bowen is a joke shows 'alot the *uck you know denunzio'!

Agreed that Bowen has a more extensive line. But he's been doing this for a decade plus with Marvel. Sideshow may nevercatch him with character variety. His line is hardly "complete" though. He's making things like "Thor Frog" and "Devil Dinosaur" but staples of the 70's such as Werewolf By Night and Tomb of Dracula have yet to be busted or fs. LOL! I'd say its a safe bet that anyone who's ever read a Hulk comic knows who Abomination is. If not, well....:banghead

Bowen Scale is very close to 1/7.

Using Bowen Silver Surfer for reference.

SS stands perfectly straight @ 11" (head to heel). If SS is supposedly 6' 4" tall(per Marvel online):

11" / 76" = .14474

1/7 = .14286
1/6 = .16667

I love my Sideshow pieces, but SS will NEVER approach the selection that Bowen offers. Bowen makes comic statues that are extremely 'comic' accurate. BDs newer pieces are just killer, and he truly is taking his company to the next level of COMIC statues by making some truly unique FS statues with unique poses. (See the new FS Medusa)

That said, BD will probably never do something as intricate as say, the Ghost Rider Maquettes, but then again, he's not trying to. He's making statues for the fans of comics, and has been, LONG before Sideshow.

Let me know when Sideshow releases the Scorpion and Kraven PFs or Comiquettes (10 years from now)...

EDIT: Make that 20 years from now, assuming they don't lose their license in the next year. How many Comiquettes have they released lately (aside from the seperate AH line)?

Agree with you 100% Anton.

You said exactly what I was thinking.

No kidding. For a minute I thought Josh started to collect Marvel also. :monkey3

Another great point Nash that I agree with it.

Why can't you like both SS and Bowen?

I have the first Bowen Hulk which IMO is better.

I like Bowen's Marvel products and not to mention the variety of characters he offers. Though I haven't yet ventured into buying any of his products, most, if not all, are very nicely done and are a great representation of the character. I think Odin and Apokalypse are still his best works.
