Like I said over at RS (or maybe it was here... the line is getting blurred): I will do a little dance when I score my Maul/Probe Droids and I will do alittle dance when anyone else does too... Whether they be 100 others, or 1,000, or even 100,000 people.

:ted :blissy :ted

By the way, we should all still try to fry SSC's servers again... Just for the fun of it :D

Ditto to that :chew

It is funny. It's like I gotta have something you don't so I can be in the cool group.
But we are the cool group! We're Sideshow Freaks! :D

Now, granted these might never gain the crazy value like other pieces because of say a 4 day window but then again aren't we collecting because we love Star Wars?

Robo no offense but the same could be said for the folks who are more concered that Maul won't be worth as much as they would like. You could possibly say neither person is collecting for the right reasons and that would be for the love of Star Wars.
No offense taken, Josh. But we've had this discussion before. In your view, placing any focus on the value of a collectible taints what you think should be the only reason for collecting, namely the love of the subject matter. I just disagree. Of course I love the subject matter, but I don't think appreciating its monetary value or rarity in any way takes away from that. If anything, it only enhances it for me. Knowing that I have something rare, and to an extent, unique, makes it a far more prized part of my collection than something that a) takes no effort to acquire, and b) no one else wants, because they already have one.

A while back (I don't recall if it was in this thread or another one), someone posted a little imagined conversation between two friends, which implied that one person would look at another's collection as insignificant without certain characters.

The way I see it, now the conversation might go like this:

Mike: "Hey Jim, check out my Star Wars Collection! Here's Darth Maul..."

Jim: "Got one..."

Mike: "Well here's my Darth Vader!"

Jim: "Got one..."

Mike: "Well, how about..."

Jim: "Got one (yawn)... Dude, I already have all of these. Everybody already has these."

I'm not saying caring about the value is wrong at all. I was just using that as a compairson to what you had said. It's always nice knowing things are worth more than they where at time you bought one. I just hope those folks also love the subject matter as much.

Oh, I do, I do. (way too much, if you ask my wife! :D)

And I will be ordering Maul (two if they'll let us - gotta have the "severed" custom, right? ;))!

Dude, I totally agree with you there... it's kinda a nice footnote to have when you can show someone your collection and say.. "Yeah... I lucked out and got this... and there are only 300 in the world."

The stories you hear about, the ones that tell the collectors journey to own said limited collectible.... Those would not exist without some level of exclusivity.

That said I have to agree that I don't like how sometimes the scalpers take advantage of our love of the subject matter and drain us financially. It really does tear me apart sometimes..... It's the only thing I do not like about this hobby.

But, such I life I guess. Either way... I still think the inclusive idea is good and probably won't change the edition sizes too terribly much. I guess we will see for sure next weekend. :D

What adventure would be complete without "bad guys" though? :lsvader :D

True... Yin an Yang I guess... no light without dark.. Bad guys are always good, especially if I am kicking their ass!! :lsvader
Ha, my wife and I tried for the GG black stormtrooper and lost out, but we don't even collect the line; I just got caught up in the hype and the thrill of seeing if I could get it. :naughty

I was frustrated at first but dang what a rush! Oh well, all we can do is revel in our collecting victories. Like the SDCC Sith Eyes Anakin. Out of that figure, Padme maquette, and black stormie bust I'll take the Anakin every time! And that's the one I got so the others would have just been gravy. :chew

I'm pretty sure that Hasbro's 12" figures were on sale for slightly longer than four days and they produced just a tad more figures....

You're missing my point. I enjoyed collecting the Hasbro 12" figures because I enjoyed the collectibility (SW characters in 12" format) and the more or less stable value of the figures. Once Sideshow announced that they held the license, the value of my Hasbro figures plummetted. I still enjoy many of the figures BUT NOT the drop in value. Any chance of selling them if needed, for a reasonable price, has quickly disappeared. With that in mind, I would hate for any "inclusive edition" figure to drop in value as soon as it's purchased, because of a too large ES, for example. I pay good money for my "collectibles" and hope for them to at the very least hold their worth and at the very most, rise in value. Anyone who doesn't want the same for their hard-earned cash is basically just kidding themselves.

I really just want great figures, thats why I always stayed away from the Hasbro line... I bought one 12" when the first came out and then the VOTC Stormtrooper and those crap-bags were more than enough for me. So far I'm good with the inclusive idea, but if after a couple of rounds it ends up being cheaper to buy a exclusive figure on the secondary market then I'll just start going that route. But I highly, highly doubt that anyone will produce better 1/6 SW figures and that the price on these (at least the exclusives) will bottom-out like that.

Its kind of funny when people say they want a limited run so the can have something nobody else has.. well I know most, if not all of us, here do have the 1250 Luke and Kit and there will be many figures down the road with limited exclusive runs so who cares if they make 10,000 Mauls, Vaders and Fetts you will still have the rest that very few people have.

I have no problem with them making 10,00 Mauls, I just wish the price would reflect an edition that size versus selling it at the same price as a 1,250 edition size. But I'll buy it anyway so it really doesn't matter.

I have been thinking (which is a very scary thing) and I have a dumb question. Will the face tattoos be painted on or will the plastic somehow be in those colors? I can only imagine all the different patterns we would have if they were each painted on. Even if it was done by a machine there is no way they could all be exactly the same with all that detail. And how many people will mention it if they are a little different.

Yeah, I wonder how they will do it... I will HAVE to be paint, as having the plastic be those two colors and in that precise arrangement is impossible. But, factory paint being that which it is... could be a problem. I'm sure they have it figured out though, being SSC and all.

I just remember those horrible Hasbro 3 3/4th figures from Episode I... every Maul had a different deco!! :rotfl :rotfl :rotfl

Was I the only collector rifling through the figures trying to find that "perfectly aligned" Maul face? I don't think so... :monkey1

I have to disagree.

I buy my "collectibles" just to "enjoy" them. When you start worrying about the value of a "collectible", you can't begin to appreciate the collectible for what it is.
