Just be careful not to dye it TOO red. It was more of a reddish orange in the movie, depending on the light. I used a little yellow mixed in with the scarlet dye when I did mine.

Most importantly - Remember that you can always go back and dye it darker, but you can't lighten it once it is too dark. I think 45 minutes should be more than enough time to get the color needed.

That's true about dying it TOO red. Yeah, after the "million" times I've seen the movie, I did notice a very tiny bit of orange in the color of the vest.

Is there any way to get the vest to "relax" some? It seems to still be standing really high on Marty in all of the pictures I've seen. I guess over time it will settle down? I hope so.

I've been thinking recently about trying to take some of the stuffing out of the vest, I bet that would do the trick. I'll update you all if/when I decide to do it :duff

Okay, cool! Maybe removing some around the top of the vest at the collar area? Yeah, I'd love to see yours once you've removed some of the stuffing in it. I remember Marty's vest being much more "relaxed" over his denim jacket. Like he had worn the vest for a while. :)

I slit the inside of the vest with a xacto knife and removed most of the stuffing. It was the only way I could get it to hang halfway naturally due to the bulkiness of his jacket.

Yeah, I saw that website featuring your incredible Marty McFly figure Dan! I love it! It inspired me to make my own Marty McFly! Everything about it down to the last little detail is there! Now, I would really enjoy making a Marty figure based on your "recipe" Dan! If you can offer us your help and advice it would be greatly appreciated! :wave Wow guys, you MUST check out his work! He's got all of the movie props made too! It's all there from the first movie! A big accessory kit to go with his awesome Marty McFly!

Welcome to the "Sideshow Freaks" message board Dan! :hi5:

Hey guys,
I made this Marty figure five years ago with a friend who helped with some of the clothes.

Just joined Freaks today, but thought I'd share as maybe my page can serve as reference or inspiration...

Cheers,
Dan

Welcome to the boards! Your Marty McFly figure was my inspiration long before anyone else started their figures. Your attention to the little details will probably never be matched.

If you haven't seen this guy's site - do yourself a favor and check it out. It is amazing how many of his custom figures are finally coming to life (Forrest Gump, Reeve Superman, etc.)

Your site shows a Doc Brown in progress. Did you ever finish it?

I took some stuffing out of Marty's vest, mainly around the shoulders and back, but some at the bottom as well. I think the small amount I took out did a lot to help the fit :rock not sure yet if I'm going to take out any more.

Now if Marty's head would just get here...

My recipe's no secret :lol Deckard should be credited with pretty much everything, I just made minor adjustments to the clothing and put together some accessories. This thread has everything you need to recreate my bash :duff

Thanks for the hearty welcome!
Wish I could offer up a useful recipe, but the clothes were all custom ooaks.
Let me see if I can find the molds for the shoes, as that seems to be a hurdle for some still...
STILL... haven't gotten around to Doc yet... :p

Dan

Okay, Dan. That's allright about the OOAK stuff for yours. I wish I could get a "dead-on" screen accurate denim jacket for my Marty like yours! Maybe someone out there is a good tailor that can stitch one, or has done one already?

Yeah, if you can find the mold for the Nike tennis shoes for Marty, that would be great! :clap

Awesome elvis1976! Did you custom-make the denim jacket? It looks very close to the one that Marty wore in the first B.T.T.F. movie. I'd love to know how you made it! :wave Oh yeah, did you make the suspenders too? If so how did you do those? If you bought them, where did you find them?

Your whole Marty outfit is looking great to me. :)

thanks man!
THe jacket i used is the same one as everyone use.
I just added som stuff.
First i removed the front pocket of the jacket.
The dark blue triangle and front pocket have been made using those denim patches.
Esay to use just iron on on the jacket.
I retailored the jeans to be slim fitted.
The supspenders were made using some elastic straps and some metal clasp to hold them to the trousers.
