The weathering (almost) always looks better on the prototype. I doubt the Chinese crew can paint the dirty droids as well as the in-house Sideshow team.

They have also had their problems with metallic finishes. I wonder which final product will look closer to the prototype--the regular or the EX?

Personally, the separate bases are the best thing about the EX, although the shiny C-3PO looks nice. I want display options, not one giant footprint.

Even with a lower edition size, I don't see this flipping. It's going to cost me close to $900 after sales tax and shipping. It would have to sell for a thousand bucks on eBay just to make back the purchase price, if you factor in eBay and PayPal fees. This just doesn't seem like something you would get to resell for a profit--not worth the trouble.

Most people dont have a clue about flipping yet keep tossing those words around. I watch ebay prices/flippers pretty closely as i buy many old statues each month off ebay.

It's almost impossible to flip the expensive statues, no flipper would try unless they have a deathwish. Take this statue it would cost $800 + $80 = ~$900 just to break even. Say you want to make a measly $100 profit, that puts it at $1000.

A $1000 statue is a tough sell no matter how nice it is - there is a limit to what people are willing to pay for statues. I can count on my hand the number of statues that people are willing to pay $1000 or higher out of the thousands.

And for that measly $100 profit the flipper assume the risk of the statue comes out badly that noone wants, the buyer is a scam and ask for refund after breaks the statue, etc..

The $300-400 stuff are what the flippers go after, they dont go for the expensive stuff. Look at ebay how many expensive statue actually sold above retail? avatar robot? alien warrior/big chap maquette? destroyer? emperor pf? they are all losing money or barely break even.

So stop worrying about flippers, maybe people buy those expensive statues just because they like them even if they are highly limited... what a concept...

Or he could've left it for someone who actually wanted it. :horror

My thoughts exactly.

:exactly:

that's socialism...

That is taking care of a fellow collector and of the community after all. Maybe some day someone would do the same for you - karma, you know. When money is the only goal in life, then that life must be quite empty and miserable, even though the person living it won't know.

I think the weathering gives the painters a bit more room for paint flaws. The clean versions must be perfect in painting, because every little flaw is visible. So at the end I think it's better to go with the REG, because we all know what the chinese painter's skills are AND not are.

Although I agree with most of what you said I think this duo will payback well above 1000.00. The only issue would be having the patience to wait for the right fish. But I do think its well worth a grand. I do agree with the flippers going for the more affordable items though. Just makes sense.:)

An awesome joke

Yep. I agree with just about everything. Except I think the Droids, if they turn out well, will command more then a grand a few years from now. Being two Iconic pieces characters and having such a low ES I really think these two will be a grail down the road. I could be wrong.

That is why I am sorta glad I did not get them. I would have been tempted to hold onto them to sell one day and then I would have had to order the REG edition anyways since I really want these two in my collection. Also I don't play the flipping game and would have hated to be tempted so much by these.

On the other hand if the EX version turn out perfect and look amazing and WAY better then the reg edition. I would probably not sell as it would not be worth it.

I think there's an echo in here.:exactly:

Got on the waitlist for the Exclusive pair a few minutes after they sold out but I've already charted out my curio space for the next few years and getting the droids means axing about 8-9 12 inch figures including all SW and Avengers. I decided I'd rather have HT Bespin Luke, Fett, a Snowtrooper and Vader over the Droids so I cancelled my reservation.

How is that a joke?

Oh that's right, you must have Twitter and Facebook and be so shallow and empty that you need self glorification to feel better about yourself. Nobody gives a flying crap what comes out of your mouth because it's always antagonistic, juvenile and self absorbed.

Gee's, he was just saying something you clearly have no concept of... the greater good of the community.

Get off your horse you spineless little turd... I'm sick of you attacking people's opinions.

Maybe you should have a new quote under your avatar...

"my ____'s bigger than yours"

You guys realize the inevitable 1/4 articulated Star Wars figures will stop these from becoming super expensive ebay sales right ?

As Hot Toys and Sideshow now seem locked in a race to build everything in 1/4 scale, how long until the droids will appear ?

You think huh? Don't know about that. I will not buy fully articulated. I bought a few and got bored quick. Love my statues. Think there will always be a market In My Opinion.

Ouch, kinda harsh. Hope your weekend gets better.

You're not taking into account eBay and PayPal fees. Also the low ES of 200 will make this a much easier sell if you did want to flip this one!

I made the comment "it's socialism" as a joke, jkno responded thinking i was serious, so i replied to him saying what i said was just a joke, not his response was a joke.

Apparently you completely missed everything and decided just to go off on me, hope your life gets better so you stop attacking everyone like a rabid dog. Unreal....

:goodpost: I have to agree with this. Most people do have a limit on how much to spend on statues. Great posts.
