i hate the weathered droids look, if i am paying $750 for this i want something new & shiny that have the wow factor with the display lighting shining on it, not old rusted stuff leaking oil!

just really hope sideshow delivers, i can think of 100 things they could do to completely botch up these statues, if i get a good set it will be with me forever right next to my tychus findlay & optimus, those 4 statues i will never sell no matter what.

does anyone know how they are doing the c3po armor? is it real metal or polystone painted to look like metal?

:rotfl :exactly:

I agree with the 3PO part. But I think R2 looks like plasic in the clean version. I also hate the double base with the EX. But man 3PO is going to look killer all nice and shiny and really give off that Wow factor your talking about.

yeah i was mostly talking about c3po, r2d2 to be honest i am ok with both clean or dirty look, based on the photos both look fine.

Someone mentioned the EX is so small because they'll probably have issues getting the "metal shine" right.

I don't get it because the mass produced Kotobukiya and Medicoms are shiny and look amazing in real life?

those are just plastics no?

No, it's probably because of the massive OCD crowd that will return the shiny ones for having the most miniscule smudge or spec on it. They probably don't want to deal with that on a big scale. This happened with the T-800 clean bust, just to name one.

that actually makes a lot of sense. making clean versions of anything metal tends to be a mess because its difficult to make it look perfect. small imperfections will get blown out of proportion and lots of returns will be made. since replacements will be scarce, they prob want to keep the number low.

If that's the case, then even pieces with light blemishes will become scarce, and people will not be returning them...Or, a replacement will be easier to perform...
Either way, the low ES is a win for whoever got the pieces.

The Kotobukiya 3PO is just chromed plastic without any kind of shading or detailing added, which looks decent on something that size, but wouldn't look great on a PF by any means (plus I don't think people would be too keen on paying $750 for plastic figures). I'm not sure about the Medicom as I don't have one. From pictures, it looks like it has some paint over the chrome to provide shading and details, and I think even the clean versions of the Sideshow droids will do this as well. Otherwise it just won't look good.

The reason I was wondering if the small edition size had something to do with the difficulty of manufacturing is that even the life-size C-3PO had faults in the chrome that the factory added extra weathering to cover up. Assuming the PFs use a similar technique (basically a thin layer of chromed metal over a polystone base), it's possible that they might have similar problems with them.

Original Trilogy is what I colloect! I can't stand the prequels! :rotfl

:lol:lol:lol I thought that might be what you ment cause you said something about a Luke PF.

I only collect Prequel Trilogy PF's and have all the Ex's except the first Luke and now the line is screwed over.
Thanks heaps Sideshow.

But if you don't mind me asking. If all you collect are OT PFs then how does not getting the EX droids mess up your collection? After all, they look like a mess 99.9% of the time in the OT. They are only clean at the end of SW and in all the Prequals.

Never mind I get it now. You have all the EX versions of the SW PF but did not get the EX droids. :slap I am a tad slow but I will get there.

I remember when it was on sale, almost everyone complained about the ex and how the weathered look so much better, saying nobody would want the ex etc..

now when the ES is announced and soldout, all those people are angry they didnt get the ex.

It's funny how the collector mentality works...just an observation.

Many collectors are only interested in low edition products. :wink1:

Nothing wrong with wanting lower runs. :wink1:

Yes you are correct, but in my 30 years of collecting toys, never have I looked at the dollar value of any item. I bought based on my liking the piece, and when my likes changed so did my collection. My only wish is that I still had what I started with, GI Joe, Captain Action, Best of the West. They were simple in design but somthing gew up with and that made it special.

The idea is to collect what YOU like and not necessarily what has a low edition. I won't start again the story of toys "investments" and scalping/flipping, since most of us know it. :)

Personally I totally prefer the regular version of this set. The base and the weathering is much better (more Star Warsy if I can say that) than the exclusive, no matter what edition number the EX has.
