I have the lifesized figure, and it doesn't look like it is chromed. I thought that there was some special paint technique that they used (and discussed somewhere on the Sideshow site) for these. Wasn't there some big hullabaloo when they announced that decision way back when?

I've stripped the weathering from the head of the lifesized figure, and there's 100% chrome underneath. Frankly, I think they put the weathering on too thick on many of the 1:1 figures. On mine, you could still easily tell that it's chromed, but on some it's hard to tell.

Wow! I had no idea!

What did you do to strip the weathering? I've noticed that lightly polishing mine with a microfiber cloth will bring out the shine, but I did not realize there was chrome under all that stuff.

You can use non-acetone fingernail polish remover and the weathering comes right off. People have done this with the Terminator Endoskull busts as well to get rid of the battle damage.

However, I would not recommend doing that on your 1:1 figure. I think in many cases they used heavy weathering to cover up faults in the chrome. The head that I showed above was a defective one (eyes were broken) so that's why I was able to play around with removing the weathering, but it had several places where the chrome had blemishes and discoloration that you couldn't really see until the weathering was gone.

It does look nice with the shiny chrome though, so maybe this version of the bust will be better than expected. Some people who bought the first version might be pissed if they prefer the shiny look, though.

I'm guessing that this being a "limited edition" will mean a open ES; effectively making the first version an exclusive.

what a slap in the fact to every collector. at least have the deceny to offer both versions at the same time.

shame on you sideshow.

I think here are the major differences.

special edition: more shinny
previous version: detachable magnetic bolt

Shocked and outraged that SS could pull a stunt like that. There isn't even a notable difference between the 'special edition' and the 'regular' version. I suppose this is Sideshow's way of making a 'limited' edition product unlimited.

I think the two versions will be noticeably different in person, so it's not like they're just releasing the exact same thing. It's hard to take pictures that make the differences clear, especially using Sideshow's normal photography techniques. That said, it is kind of a lame move (like the "battle damaged" Iron Man bust they released a while back).

I think if the ES is any higher than 100 pieces on these then SS has a serious problem defining what is and is not a "collectable." And, they can stick both the "shiny" and "dirty" busts up their ***** for ruining the collectors market with this type of marketing. I mean it's not like these are 3 3/4" figures or 12" figures even.. These are $650 busts!

It really is insane what they're doing here.
