Re: Captain America 2: The Winter Soldier

If he had, I don't think he would've been as naive as he was on the helicarrier.

You really think one year is enough time to learn every random pop culture/scientist reference of the last 70 years? :duh

"Hey Cap, you've been asleep for 70 years so let's get you up to speed on what you missed. Lesson #1: Steve Hawkings."

:lol

Great news. I bet we'll be seeing Bucky turn villain again in the comics to time with the release --something I hope they handle well.

No, but even a week is more than enough time to learn that the government/country you once fought for is loaded with corruption. Cap's too bright not to have figured it out if given as much time as you suggest, unless he blatantly brushed over Vietnam during his research.

Right, which is why when Fury mentioned winning the war Rogers replied by mentioning his concerns over "what we lost." Then again with Coulson he appears skeptical that the patriotic colors are still relevant to the country. That's quite a jaded perspective for only a few days of debriefing and certainly not a perspective that SHIELD agents keeping him quarantined would ever go out of their way to cultivate.

Understanding that your government isn't what it used to be is one thing, learning that the man you trust is personally manufacturing weapons based on technology you gave your life to destroy is something else entirely.

I believe he also asks if Fury is coming to him with "another mission," as if he's been on one or more already. I highly doubt they'd thaw him out and then a couple days later send him off to fight bad guys in a world he has no clue about.

But now that I think of it I wonder if Evans mentioned in an outside interview that he'd been awake for a year and I believe I might have that interview on my DVR. If no one pipes in about hearing that stated in the movie I'll take a look at it after work.

But just hours later, he's naively arguing with Stark about Fury's intentions. For Cap to have been up and running that long, it plays him off as the big dumb jock. I'd prefer not to think of him that way, given he's not only physically strong, but a brilliant strategist and master tactician.

Re: Captain America 2: The Winter Soldier

Nick Fury is the first person in Cap's new world to come clean and give it to him straight. They're obviously on good terms at the beginning of The Avengers. Not a stretch at all to assume that he might consider him a friend and as we see from what he says to Banner when they first meet he isn't the type of guy to seek out or dwell on the character flaws of his close associates even when said flaws could kill lots of people.

At least until his discovery on the helicarrier that is.

But he wasn't. Turns out Tony Stark was. :lol

Re: Captain America 2: The Winter Soldier

True, but Cap didn't immediately know that. :D

But I was more referring to the end of CA:TFA when the first chick lied to him and Fury gave it to him straight in Times Square.

Granted, but again, I don't want to think of Captain America as the big dumb jock. If he'd been doing work for SHIELD this whole time and learning the world, he'd be bound to pick up on some of the corruption at play in our government (the one he wholeheartedly represents). But his counters to Stark during their arguing say otherwise. For that to fit Cap, it'd have to be weeks with him still being a bit naive vs. a year + with him being incompetent. See what I'm saying?

Re: Captain America 2: The Winter Soldier

It may have just been over the weekend at Comic-Con that we got an idea of where Captain America might be heading next in the Marvel Movie Universe with his solo follow-up landing the title CAPTAIN AMERICA: THE WINTER SOLIDER, which may be referring to a Captain America story arc that has Bucky's body found preserved in Russia and brought back as a Russian assassin with a bionic arm under the code name the Winter Soldier. If that's the plan to keep Sebastian Stan in the mix, then Captain America may need a new sidekick to head into battle with, and Anthony Mackie could be ready to take the role.

The Hollywood Reporter reports that Anthony Mackie is in talks with Marvel Studios to become Falcon for CAPTAIN AMERICA: THE WINTER SOLDIER. Falcon, otherwise known as Sam Wilson, was a regular ally of Captain America, helping him take on Red Skull as his partner for some time and even taking on the Captain America persona when Captain America was believed to have been killed. Falcon derives his powers from a suit which helps him fly, and he's able to communicate telepathetically with birds. Falcon is also historically the first African-American superhero, having debuted in 1969, introduced in Captain America #117.

Re: Captain America 2: The Winter Soldier

I hope they change the CA's costume from the Avenger's one to something cooler and very curious how Falcon will look in WS.

Re: Captain America 2: The Winter Soldier

The Falcon sounds like he'll be an interesting character on film. I hope this happens. I'd rather see him more on the big screen that Bucky.

"Snap" Wilson saga, please.

Okay so I watched that Evans interview again and he didn't mention anything about his character being awake for a year prior to Avengers. Maybe I just assumed that when we awoke it was 2011 because that's when TFA came out, who knows.

Sounds like its definitely open to interpretation and I don't have any problems with your notion of him being out for only a few weeks at the most since apparently nothing else says otherwise.

"You here with a mission? You want to get me back in the world?" Sounds like something he'd say pretty early on, not a full year after getting re-acclimated.

Looking forward to seeing Falcon on the big screen. Finally some good news after the directors and plot were announced.

What became of the Winter Soldier in the current Cap comics? I know he became Captain America after Steve "died." What is he doing now that Rogers is back?

Re: Captain America 2: The Winter Soldier

I just hope Cap finds time for some "R&R" if you get my drift, maybe with Peggy's grand daughter or something.

Poor Cap is probably a virgin, or at the very least has some serious blue balls.

After fighting Hydra, Red Skull, and battling hordes of Alien invaders no one deserves it more.:hi5:
