Re: Captain America 2: The Winter Soldier

“The biggest thing for me, the most exciting thing for me, is to come out on Halloween and see all the little black kids dressed up like the Falcon. There are so many parts of our society that are not catered to or represented fully and this will give a new generation of our society someone to look up to and identify with.”

I'm white but I'm going as Falcon for Halloween.
I usually do.

Looks like Hot Toys made that shield, what with the paint flaking.

In all seriousness, awesome poster!

Re: Captain America 2: The Winter Soldier

“It’s a cool story and brings in some amazing characters and the Falcon is one of the things that fans are already excited about,” Mackie said. “It’s a movie that has kind of turned into a bigger-than-life opportunity for me. I’ve had these little milestones along the way and now to play a superhero and to work with people like Robert Redford, Sam Jackson, and Chris? It’s just turned into this amazing moment.”

Mackie says the character won't just "fall into" his position like so many other heroes, saying that he's “a really smart guy who went through major military training and becomes a tactical leader, he’s not some guy that fell into this.”

The Falcon is a character that is most well known for the tradition of being one of the first African American superheroes, and Mackie isn't taking the character's ideals or traditions lightly.

“The most important thing I got from everybody at Marvel about the Falcon was the need to show that he’s a very righteous, man-forward kind of guy. He would do anything to protect the man next to him and to protect his country. That’s the integrity of the character and the integrity of the man and that that’s what I have focused on.”

There are so many parts of our society that are not catered to or represented fully and this will give a new generation of our society someone to look up to and identify with. That’s why I am so intensely focused on bringing the character to life in a special way.”

Falcon sucks. Name a classic Falcon story? Black Panther is cooler! I would rather look up to T'Challa(A King) than Captain America's sidekick. I like Mackie, but he's missing the point. Yeah, we don't have a lot of characters to look up too, but I just can't get excited for the lame ones either. Kevin Feige made his great pronouncement that "Audiences would have a hard time buying the concept of Wakanda." But they bought Asgard, and Thanos, a talking racoon, and whatever other bs Disney/Marvel has in their next phase. But Wakanda is too unbelievable???

Happy for Mackie, as i think he is a very underrated actor, but Black Panther or bust for me.

Audiences not buying Wakanda is equivalent to audiences not buying magic in a Iron Man story. Nonsense. Falcon may not have had many memorable individual stories, but he was a friend and partner to Cap for a long time. He's as much a part of Cap's story as anyone else, and warrants being in the movie. Plus, he was an interesting character in that he was part of the inner city community, was a social worker, and former criminal. I do have fears about how they are going to deal with him in the movie though, since it appears as if they are making him just another military commando a la Hawkeye or Rhodey.

Re: Captain America 2: The Winter Soldier

The first Cap was pretty darn cool. I think this one is going to be even better.

Re: Captain America 2: The Winter Soldier

It's not WWII and there's no Red Skull so nope, can't be better :lol

I agree with your opinions of Black Panther and on Anthony Mackie, but how is he missing the point? He's enthusiastic about his character. And Falcon does have his fans.

But yes, I'd love to see a Panther film. Maybe portrayed by the guy who played Jackie Robinson in 42.
