Re: Captain America 2: The Winter Soldier

James Gunn is probably my favorite director right now. I'm so happy for the guy. We've had small discussions on Facebook and once on Myspace years ago.

Re: Captain America 2: The Winter Soldier

This isn't the comics, Kara. Though it's loosely based on the Ultimates, it's its own beast with its own continuity which started with Iron Man back in '08. So you're going to have to work harder at a response that makes more sense then grasping at straws (or in this case irrelevant comics). I think in this film we'll see Cap having to re-evaluate who he is and what he stands for since we saw almost zero personal development in Avengers. That still needs to be addressed.
My whole original point was that I hope he is made out to be more like the comics. Of course, they haven't fully explored these issues yet, but nothing he's done so far suggests that he is fundamentally different than comic Cap. In fact, I get the impression that these filmmakers get it. You saw hints of that in the way he responded to SHIELD's cover up. Cap, in the comics, has had his faith shaken at times. But he ends up doing what he feels is right, and having his ideals reinforced one way or the other. This is ultimately why he's an inspirational character--he really is the symbol he appears to be. Not just because he's a 'roided up crime fighter who wears a flag on his chest. I have a hard time imagining him otherwise and still being any character I really like wearing that suit.

:exactly:

He's even going to be banging different chicks.
He had multiple lovers in the comics, as well.

Re: Captain America 2: The Winter Soldier

I've heard good things about James Gunn.don't even know whos directing this :lol
Joe Russo and Anthony Russo.

Again they are an unconventional choice, as they are mostly known for their TV work, which is of course great TV. They directed episodes of Arrested Development, Happy Endings and several eps of Community, right from the pilot.

Um... we were discussing Cap whom you said hadn't changed and used the comics to back your point while trolling me for stating how naive he was in Avengers wich is exposed with the Stark *****slap-reality check and Banner backing Stark. So this is where you skip over that whole point and twist what you said to basically re-state what I did but in a longer post. You taking lessons from MaulFan? :lol

I remember reading Black Widow isn't a love interest, I think she even gives him a hard time for not asking out his neighbor (Sharon Carter). Peggy is also much older now, so I think the movie Cap is going to be a one girl, kind of guy. Makes sense since the other heroes all have one primary love interest (Stark and Potts, Thor and Foster, Banner and Betty) so I'm betting Sharon Carter is Caps main squeeze, but hopefully she is still kick-*** and a hero in her own right.

Re: Captain America 2: The Winter Soldier

I find it funny when conversations lead to people saying "but this isn't comics, it's the movieverse" as a way of saying the filmakers are allowed to change things but if they had a hero or villian that doesn't wear a costume or look like their Comics costume or it's a conersation about a CBM different franchise then that stance is immediately reversed :lol

* Not referencing anyone in particular, just observation of generalities

Sure bunky. Once again, you're looking at the face value of things. Kara and I were discussing Cap being completely naive to how America is currently and his views being antiquated and Kara trying to use the comics as a crutch (which doesn't apply) to show how Cap has evolved - which we don't see in Avengers because he hasn't yet.

That's heaps different from, say, ASM combining the look of B&R's Mr. Freeze and the voice of Dr. Claw into Elektro, most people hating it and you, Wez and two others getting chaffed about it. But hey, keep trying to find some irrelevant point to make. :lol
