I can't wait for the ET special tomorrow :panic:

Personally, I don't need to be constantly reminded of whose underneath the mask. I know who they are. They have enough screen time out of suit anyway. When the time comes for your super heroic acts and posing for a magazine/DVD/movie poster, leave your damn mask on.

lol

It's no coincidence that Spider-Man and Batman are the two most profitable superheroes in the world. You can put any actor in the suit but the character and masked hero itself is all that matters.

The Spider-Man movies do the same thing. Why do you think every movie has to have Peter's mask get damaged or torn off during the finale, as well as plenty of scenes showing Peter's personal life?

If you don't care who is under the mask, you don't need to hire actors. This is why the MCU is the cream of the crop. They choose actors who make you care about these characters.

Yeah it happens in the Spider-Man movies but in regards to posters and merchandise you will always see Spider-Man masked, the same with Batman. The CW Tony Stark poster is a bad example to use because it's just his face but the AOU posters had some badly photoshopped RDJ heads on an Iron Man body.

Both views are over simplified. It's not the mask, or lack or mask that makes any of these great. It's not any one actor. Evans, hemsworth, Renner, ect have all had flops after staring in marvel films.

There's no single thing that is the magic item that makes a movie good or bad. It's many many many many many things. Yes batman and spiderman are tops in the comic marketing and merch area. But are beat out in over all merchandise year after year by such classy thought provoking items as Thomas the train and angry birds and Barbie. None of which rely on actors, masks or anything else. Every child likes toys. Not every adult spends money on movies or movie merch.

Spiderman isn't tops because he wears a mask. Or tops Becuase he takes it off. (Both sides used the same character as proof of why mask/no mask is better. Shows how silly the point is). He's tops Becuase he's written kid friendly, his story has bugs, and lots of color, parents like him and he looks good on a shelf. superman was tops for like 50 years. Still top three. And he doesn't exactly wear a mask. There story is simple and easy. Got bit by a spider and the other is powered by the sun. Easy enough to pretend it's you when your a child. THey have fun costumes. Their story's often mirror what parents tell their kids. Characters like Thor and others are much more complicated and are often darker in both tone and real world pallets. (Costumes) and I can hear the "well Batmans dark"..but he wasn't always so. Batman has often been portrayed goofy and camp.

Bottom line is the mask, on or off, is not the factor that makes any of these work. It's a single piece in a 1000 piece puzzle.

Hmm yeah. My cousin is five years old, he has lots of Spider-Man toys and his parents bought him a Hulkbuster toy for Christmas. My auntie and uncle aren't superhero fans atall but I'm guessing they know more info on Spider-Man than any other superhero so they can 'relate' to the character more. In regards to the Hulkbuster, my cousin isn't allowed to watch anything Avengers related due to it being too 'violent' but even without seeing the movie he likes the look of the Hulkbuster toy.

Mostly, I just don't see the big deal. RDJ's portrayal is a huge part of the reason why Iron Man has become so successful. I don't get why people seem to be shocked or upset that they're gonna show his face on the poster.

And in the MCU there isnt much emphasis on identies as most of theirs are known. Unlike say the DCU where supes and bats have secret identities so Batman is the one you rarely ever see his face in a batsuit in posters.

I'm sold on the hero costume for MCU Spidey. All I'll say on the subject is, if you like the Romita Sr look, you'll be happy. I'll probably end up keeping my ASM2 because I like the big eyes, but it looks like I'm adding another Spidey to my collection :yess: And definitely not getting homemade costume Spidey, not a fan of the look.
