Re: The First Avenger: Captain America Discussion Thread

Wow, talk about a missed chance and building the brand!

Todays Real 3D non Imax showing I got the Cap trailer, in 3D and it was awesome. Not a new trailer mind you, still the 1st one.

It was with the Imax viewing that didn't have the Cap trailer, neither in 2D or 3D.

Re: The First Avenger: Captain America Discussion Thread

Looks like a flame thrower type thing to me.

Re: The First Avenger: Captain America Discussion Thread

That scene is going to be so fast no one is going to notice how high tech it looks for the time.
Hell most kids these days have never seen a vinyl record.

I agree.

And that's why I'm worried about this movie....A LOT.

It's Capt. I WANT to like it, but this movie better REALLY deliver because what I'm seeing in the pics and what my expectations are are VERY different.

I'm not familiar with Thor, as I am Capt., so that could be part of the problem. (Note: I loved the Thor movie.) But I really don't think so. The H.Y.D.R.A. henchman look like crap. (That's just my opinion, but it takes a lot for me to think something looks like crap in terms of Marvel, etc. etc. So that says a lot to me. :lol) These stills are killing it for me so far.

I've yet to see one still shot that I think is flattering. A few have looked promising, like the first still of Red Skull. But between those weird motorcycles and these H.Y.D.R.A. goggle get-ups, I'm left scratching my head right now. And with only months away from the premiere, this has me worried.

I had a similar feeling with Green Lantern when I saw his costume for the first time, but I honestly have to pat the WB on the back because they've done enough tweeks from then to now, between the new trailers and promotional shots, that I can say "WOW! I REALLY want to go see that." At this point, I think Capt. better pull close to a 180 or else this could let down A LOT of people, myself included. I hope I'm wrong though.

I also still have my fingers crossed.

I do like the Cap and RS costume/look.

I could live with this HYDRA stuff if the movie delivers in the story execution/action department.

I'm simply nervous though. :monkey2

I'll be able to live with it, but not sure if I'll like it. H.Y.D.R.A. is going to be a pretty big part of the movie (and that's an understatement.) Unless they step it up and do a better job selling me with the "Red Skull is just trying to make a fashion statement with these guys. Don't worry. We got this..." argument, I'm going to be skeptical until premiere night. I still don't know why "traditional" garb wasn't it order, but that's the reasoning I hope the director, producers, writers, etc. sell me during the movie.

Re: The First Avenger: Captain America Discussion Thread

And yes, I am a little cranky right now. Smallville ends Friday and I'm a little upset to say the least. :lol

Re: The First Avenger: Captain America Discussion Thread

Yeah, if the Nazi element is 100% removed from this film, I'll be annoyed. Aren't these films are supposed to be grounded in reality?! I'd accept only seeing them on screen for a second if it was said they were the front of house for HYDRA and then move the focus of the film to the HYDRA threat... But to remove them historically will weaken the film as a whole, IMO..

Also, where is the next Trailer... This film is doing the opposite of Green Lantern, starting out strong with SDCC footage last year, Superbowl spot then an decent trailer and now... Silence? I still cannot believe there wasn't a new or extended one attached to Thor.

Re: The First Avenger: Captain America Discussion Thread

I've come to the belief that looking at production stills, watching leaked scenes or reading leaked pages invariably leads to negative perception. Most of the time the scenes/pages/stills are taken completely out of context and are often incomplete or temporary.

I watched every scene that was released of Thor in advance of the film's opening and I can honestly say that those scenes played flat and cliché and repetitive when viewed independently. Within the framework of the film the scenes were CONSIDERABLY more effective. Loud theater in the dark. Engaged audience. A 50 foot scene in 3D. Its NO CONTEST when compared to watching (or looking) at a small quicktime (or photograph) on a computer monitor.

Do yourselves a favor... DON'T succumb to the temptation of looking at spoilers, or leaked images, or advanced scenes. BE PATIENT. Wait for the final film. You will likely enjoy it more when you see things in context, with more than one of your senses engaged, with more than JUST your senses engaged...

It's almost not even worth watching the trailers especially since I would have seen this movie regardless. I went with a buddy to see Thor who hadn't watched the trailer. Sure, he'd seen some promotional images (i.e. the posters) and some of the TV spots in passing but I was surprised how much MORE he would laugh at things that I already knew were coming (i.e. the coffee cup breaking, tranq shot, etc.). He literally enjoyed the movie more than I did.

Re: The First Avenger: Captain America Discussion Thread

Some rumors, connections. Might have already been posted but I don't care.

Captain America: The First Avenger Plot Details
The film is set 95% during the Second World War, but it starts today, with extracting a block of ice containing a mysterious figure, block located in the wreckage of a giant bomber. The film also ends in our time.
The Shield: It is manufactured by Howard Stark, and the white parts are vibranium an indestructible alloy created by Stark Industries. In his “discovery” in the present, the shield of Captain America will be alongside the hero in the ice.
Red Skull and Cosmic Cube: The Cosmic Cube is hidden in a church in Norway. Red Skull uses a tank to enter. The Cube is used to power a variety of vehicles, including the famous giant bomber, carrying bombs have targeted major U.S. cities and European capitals.
Bucky and the Invaders: Bucky Barnes, and soldiers freed from a camp of the HYDRA form a group called the Invaders [But then where are the Howling Commandos? Normally, the Invaders team is composed of superheroes as Namor, the origins Torch, Toro, Union Jack, Spitfire ...].
An error / a Freudian slip? Stephen Broussard co-producer discusses the meeting of superheroes in 2012 as follows: Captain America, Iron Man, Thor, Hulk, Ant-Man and the Wasp in the Avengers movie. [Until now, the presence of Hank Pym and his wife has always been rejected.]
A subject of the movie Iron Man 2 was used in Captain America [???].

Anybody who has seen Thor (read our official review HERE), Incredible Hulk or Iron Man 2 knows first-hand just how many plot threads Marvel is subtly (and not so subtly) weaving into each film, in order to build their shared movie universe. Without spoiling anything, Thor contained quite a few winks to other Marvel characters, and The First Avenger looks to continue that trend. Just a few issues raised in plot details above:

We’ve known that First Avenger would start and end with Cap being unfrozen in modern day (see photos of that scene HERE). This connects the film directly to The Avengers, as well as to the director’s cut of The Incredible Hulk, in which a Hulk rampage in the Arctic seemingly loosens the glacier where Cap is frozen.
The Cosmic Cube, taken in conjunction with the secret ending of Thor strongly hint that prior rumors about The Avengers plot and villains might turn out to be true. The location where the cube is reportedly found is significant, in that Norway = Norse Gods = Asgard and Thor.
The Cube and Asgard will open the door to the Marvel Cosmic Universe, and possibly characters like The Kree, The Skrulls, The Guardians of the Galaxy, The Inhumans and (fingers crossed) Thanos.
Vibranium, though described above as an artificial alloy made by Howard Stark, does directly connect to The Black Panther, another character Marvel is developing for film.
As indicated, it’s NOT LIKELY that Ant-Man and Wasp will appear in The Avengers - particularly since Ant-Man is getting is own standalone movie. Why a producer would make that error that is beyond me . (Never a good sign if the guys running the show don’t have full knowledge of what’s going on.) At most, I would expect a Hank/Jan Pym cameo, and that’s it.
The Iron Man 2/First Avenger connection is somewhat of a head-scratcher – though if I had to guess, I would say that it will most likely be Howard Stark’s formation of S.H.I.E.L.D. (an homage to Cap America) and his recruitment of Nick Fury (as told in Iron Man 2).
