I liked it enough to be going back for a second viewing

:chase

Actually the wife and son didn’t go on my first viewing so now it’s their turn.

I have to say I really like
how Fury picked the Avengers name for me it didn’t come off as forced. She was the first he met and especially with her being half human why not because the name Avengers is silly on its own but in the context of her standing up against the Kree lies it works.

Are you watching sober this time? ;D

What should have been.

Agree. Tho I didn't - originally - have an issue w. BL in other roles. But like anyone going through "cycles of grief" just reading some RUMORS and some other stuff re EG - beginning to feel like that's that then, re the MCU. Esp. when current writing/directing re the MCU future seems geared toward the tactic of *&&^% on the original MCU:mad: to make the new important.

Anyway re mid credit scene:

Re the mid credit scene w. Brie staring all I could think of is the two girls in the Shining. She sure has the creep-stare down:horror, if
not the *smoulder*.

Never mind the lightning-fast, always seems to have a gun around, BW not noticing someone just pop in behind her, especially when there looks like there's a long hallway you would have to walk. :slap Or maybe everyone is too lost in sorrow and sleeplessness to notice that a celestial being showed up and set the lawn on fire - guess there are no sensors and alarm systems either. Or Friday.:banghead

But guess that's just the magic and powah of Captain Marvel - she can just materialize out of thin air, too.

Tho seeing characters I care about was a balm:clap. Plus the numbers count IMO was effective.

Actually its expected to make about 160 million this weekend. There is no joy in angry white male land.

Captain Marvel’ Tramples Internet Trolls & Skyrockets To $160M Opening.
https://deadline.com/2019/03/captain-marvel-opening-weekend-box-office-breaks-records-1202571905/

But:
More than half of all moviegoers came to Captain Marvel because it’s part of a franchise they love.

IMO like BP, the "real" numbers for the film will never be known; or the amount of money it might have made without the EG connection. Or the amount of money it's lost for various reasons - Brie's comments, the amount paid out for PR, WOM re the film itself...

The only reason a lot of the audience knows about "internet trolls" etc. is if they come across it in a media article. Trying to troll this movie was never gonna be effective if most the the audience isn't on YT, Twitter or could care less about celebrity comments. The media is having a lot of fun; always does with box office positive or negative. But they rarely mention a film's true profits, which include disk and streaming. Some "bombs" are financial successes. Media doesn't talk about that because it's boring.

The real question IMO is - if u knew, in a year and half, another CM film was coming out (no big team up movie following), would it be on your must-see list.

In Fandango pre-sales, Captain Marvel is its top advance ticket seller since Avengers: Infinity War last year. In the digital ticket-seller’s survey, 98% of those polled are looking forward to seeing how Captain Marvel connects with the ongoing Avengers storyline.

Don't believe me. Watch right wingers insist this movie is a flop regardless of how much it makes.

It’s going to make a ton. Only because it’s tied to 20 good movies that came before it.

BUT NOW: the Marvel brand looses some of its shine going forward. That’s the real damage. Endgame grosses won’t be affected, what comes after will.

Saw it last night.. i forgot how to use spoiler tag so i wont get into any details. I will say say she is just way too op, thanos doesnt stand a chance. She is the supergirl of the mcu. The men suck agenda wasnt nearly as overt as tlj, just a few needless uneccessary flashback scenes of men saying **** and some other subtle jabs, like changing the sex of a key character and having another one washing dishes lol, i think that character did more dishes than firing of a gun or fighting.. lets not forget the scanner saying human male no threat, notice how they didnt scan the female sitting right next to him. Overall i did enjoy the movie, it wasnt great bit it also wasnt im3 level bad either. Im sure we'll get a line in end game like where were you when we needed you, she be like i was saving other worlds but im here now. Then someone will say what will make this fight different and she say now you have me.. yup cause she gonna go nuclear on thanos... game over. Lastly, the ending was very anticlimatic due to her power levels, never felt as if she was threatened at all

Alita budget: 200 million

Opening weekend 28 million

Captain Marvel budget: 152 million

Opening weekend: Projected 155-165 million plus 2nd highest opening day in China behind IW

Listen hate Brie all you want if that’s what’s required to get you thru the day fine by me but I think it’s safe to say that Marvel has once again successfully turned a B-C list character into an A lister in a matter of a weekend.

If AEG successfully sticks to its landing the MCU will make cinematic history and like it or not Brie Larson will be part of that achievement and no amount of forum complaining, video dislikes or RT fan reviews will ever take that away from her.

I think that remains to be seen. I'll give u the character showed up in everything from the Washington Post etc. I'd also argue that it's never a good thing to stuff a character in this way...like I fast-forward through the cringey Ultron farmhouse scenes, tho I appreciate a lot of the film - even more so now, 'coz Whedon did a lot of the writing, it's cohesive, lavish, and does a lot of cool stuff.

I'd also argue that NEEDLESSLY alienating a current customer base is never a good way to maintain profits. Like, the money I will never spend on CM stuff at minimum needs to be replaced by a new customer who would spend the same, or more. I don't mean Brie; I mean the heavy-handed way this has been handled.
But assume Disney's bean counters and social media analysts factored in all that kind of thing, so guess as a customer I am dispensable and so is my wallet:monkey2:monkey2:monkey2. Some article I read said little girls were rating this 100% and little boys almost as high, so guessing Disney is counting on all the next 10 years of future dollar customers.

I'm still looking forward to the intro of Adam Warlock tho, and that is just from the comic character and one line in a credit scene.

This movie has the Marvel stamp, so it was always going to open big, But remember Star Wars TLJ had a 220M opening. Was that a good film? However, this movie failed everyone. Anti CM folks were disappointed that the movie is not a dumpster fire, and Rabid SJW’s were disappointed because it’s not the greatest MCU movie ever made. It’s an okay film. entertaining at times, with some feminist cringe moments, a strong supporting cast, and a somewhat bland, and mis casted actress in the lead. So, we will see if it has legs.

This. But, like someone here pointed out to me, CM really wasn't the important thing. Whether folks like the treatment or not, the Skrulls got introduced into the MCU. But CM successfully has energized me into choosing a side...and I choose Thanos. I hope when CM is dusted/vaporized there's a slight change of expression anyway. Never thought I'd be rooting for Thanos so much.:monkey3

It would be the 7th biggest opening for a Marvel movie after the three Avengers movies, Black Panther, Civil War and Iron Man 3. Ant-Man and the Wasp, which came out directly after Infinity War, had a 75 million opening weekend, half that of Captain Marvel.

Which IMO is a more "fair" way to determine box office, as more of a stand alone. Kinda. Anything Marvel does right now still has the can't-fail Marvel glow. U even see that in comments all over "the MCU has never let me down" etc.

But IMO seeing some fractures and not bein' a downer for the sake of it. Repetitive script lines. Dodgy CGI. Indifference to continuity. Less location shooting. Thought we'd be well past when Whedon forgot to give people earpieces. But even in IW I can't figure out how Thor etc. was talking to Eitri in space - like ESP or what.
