Environmental cartoon Captain Planet and the Planeteers is getting the big-screen treatment.Sony Pictures is in final negotiations to pick up the rights to the early 1990s series for an adaptation to be produced by Mark Gordon, Don Murphy and Susan Montford.

I actually enjoyed the show as a kid, but I never thought of it as something that'd translate well into a movie. Mighty Max, Pirates of Dark Water, and Gargoyles all would have been better choices just off the top of my head.

I used to watch it as a kid too. Even made some planeteer rings of me own and flaunted them at school. Mind you, I had all 5 powers. Good ol' days.

As I grew up, I considered him a lame superhero. I mean, most of the time those poor kids fought all the baddies and *** clown Captain Planet just used to round 'em up, bark out the message of the day and he's off. Moreover, if he gets a lil dirty or a lil radioactive goo gets flung at him, he's like ''Planeteers, the power is yours''. Poof, he's gone.

That could actually work. The Avengers as the planeteers as Fury as Gaia
