Man this show is fun. Fillion is one of my favorite actors. Glad to see him back on the air. I was enjoying Drive...until they ended it.

This show has potential. Pretty funny too.

Wasn't that into it for the first 15-20 minutes, but it really kicked in after that. Why Nathan Fillion isn't already a huge star is beyond me. Definitely tuning in next week.

Re: Castle Series thread.

Yea, he's carrying the show to start, but I think several of the supporting cast has potential. I'll give it three or four weeks to see if it gets its legs.

Who was the woman in the poker game? I recognized Patterson and Cannell, but not her. I assumed she was somebody, since they went through the trouble to get big name authors for the other two seats.

Re: Castle Series thread.

It was because of Fillion that I enjoyed Firefly/Serenity. I find him not being a bigger star to be very perplexing. He's got presence and likeability, a quirky attractiveness that leaves all the dime-a-dozen smouldering-eyed pouty-lipped pretty boys in the dust (and can act a bit as well). Tuned in only becuz I was too lazy to flip channels from its lead-in show, and just enjoyed the heck out of it. Hope it survives and flourishes; it's got potential. (but then if I like a show, it will likely get cancelled :( )

I think she was just supposed to be the dealer. I like this idea of the poker game, but I hope they can get someone like Grisham.

I like the show, Fillion is his standard charming rogue character, although a bit smarter than he usually plays. The chemistry with Katic is good too. It feels a lot like Bones, which I only got into for about 5 episodes, or The Mentalist.

Re: Castle Series thread.

I'm glad this series is all self contained. I was afraid every week some freak would use his books to kill. That'd get old fast.

Show seems like its going to be fun. I'm glad they market it that way too.

Re: Castle Series thread.

Loved the first ep. it was a lot of fun. I just hope its not like a new case each week like CSI or something. I want some carry over from week to week.

Re: Castle Series thread.

I was kinda surprised they ended the copycat killer arc so tidely in the first episode. If ever there was a specific nemesis to keep as the long term story arc, a copycat killer would have been it (a la the ice truck killer in Dexter).

Re: Castle Series thread.

But it would get kinda old......this is a way to keep it fresh, since this isnt the most original show on TV...

It's obviously going to be a procedural without any major plot arcs - perhaps a running character thing like Red Jack in the Mentalist. But that's why I compared it to Bones - just a new case each week. That's what the TV execs prefer.

I thought we had a thread for this:

although this is better titled. I'll repeat my original post:

The Mike said:
I've seen Castle I got to watch it a couple of months back as part of a focus group. The odds of it staying on aren't good. He is a writer who has a copycat killer and he helps the plucky young beautiful cop to solve it. He has a daughter who is way more mature than him and is the "parental" unit, he has a mother who is wilder than him. The cop feels like a carbon copy of Olivia from Law and Order SVU. The chemistry is good but not great. Its not a bad show and you'll see that Fallon is great in it, he plays the character great, there is a scene where he tells her that his "safe" word is apple in the beginning to be charming and hit on her and then at the end she is hurting him being the tough cop and he is screaming "Apple! Apple!"

Like I said its not a bad show it just doesn't feel original at all....

I haven't sat and watched the released Pilot although from the previews it didn't look too different. I like the character and Fillion is great and I'm kind of jonesin for Katic but episode 2 will be the real test for me.

Re: Castle Series thread.

I hadn't even given this show a shot, but you all make it sound pretty good...maybe I should?

Hey, I did a search before I posted....I found nuthin. :monkey3

Re: Castle Series thread.

No biggie, the other was called "Nathan Fillion Show" or something like that. Either way he plays the character well I just don't think it'll find an audience...

Re: Castle Series thread.

liked the first show, fillion was great imo.
just depends if the show can find a following sooner rather than later.
i don't know, if i missed next week it wouldn't be a big deal to me.
in the end it's just another cop show, like we need more of them.

that's the reason why shows like heroes and lost etc. work so well, because they're so different.

Except the procedural cop shows do MUCH better than Heroes and Lost - CSI, The Mentalist, Law & Order...

Re: Castle Series thread.

I don't know, I thought it was pretty decent. I think the chemistry between Fillion and Katic is great - you really want to see them get together. Castle spinning his yarn and all the cops entranced by his story-telling was a great scene. The mystery was fairly standard, although I guessed the murderer, if not the motive, as soon as they were introduced.
