If TLJ receives a mild reaction this Christmas, you can expect HT to jumpstart the PT figures sooner than later.

I agree. With a bit of luck they may also get to Krennic, Cassian & Baze. Someone in the know mentioned R1 is considered Prequels.

Or if the Hot Toys TLJ Rey 3.0, Finn 3.0, Kyle Ren 2.0, Rose, hobo Luke, Poe Solo, bby droid 2 pack, phase 2 duck troopers, unmasked Phasma, red roman guards and porgs sell poorly, which I think is definitely possible.

Honestly, I feel like a Maul and Ewan Mcgregor Kenobi (any era) would sell better than all of those things. Doubly so if Hot Toys has the nads to actually make stuff like a Finn and Rose (FO disguise) 2-pack or Benico Del Toro and Laura Dern 2-pack.

Maul, Obi-Wan, General Grievous, Mace Windu, Dooku, Jango Fett, light saber Yoda, Arena Padme, Battle Droids, Clone Troopers, etc. etc. might not do Darth Vader, Boba Fett, Luke Skwalker numbers, but I bet they'd do better than the sequel trilogy stuff.

Curious about your rational here...

What are you basing that info off of (that they will likely sell poorly) and then hot toys will realize they need to make prequel figures? You are putting expectation on a corner of the franchise that polarized hardcore fans and targets a specific corner of Star Wars fans (those who are old enough but also young enough to see those admitidly poor films as nostalgia) on a current major global box office film which has so far had high critical and fan acclaim.

Hot toys is all about the current. That's why they will produce and be able to sell endless figures on something as terrible as suicide squad or as mediocre as the iron man, Thor or other marvel sequels.

If you follow their logic of the current high money properties and the box office cash cow that means you will be seeing the new trilogy figures dominate with smatterings of OT figures as the norm not the exception for the next 5 years.

Anakin is a sole exception because he's a Howard chan favorite. They have stated many times before prequel figures are not on their radar at all.

Let me be clear I want prequel figures as much as OT or NT figures...

Implying that it won't be noticeably better than Sideshow? Move along

I don't have the Sideshow Maul, but it doesn't look awful to me.

Hot Toys would be infinitely better for sure (just like their Vaders, Boba, R2, etc.) but Hot Toys does tend to have lame expressions and awful bases. That's all I was saying.

I was adding to Wor Gar's point about Hot Toys possibly pursuing other avenues if TLJ isn't profitable for them. If it's Star Wars, there is milking potential. A lot of that TFA merch sat around, even on clearance, especially the troopers and Finn. The designs and characters for TLJ don't look any better than TFA (in fact, it appears to be more of the same) so that might make Hot Toys look at other parts of the Star Wars license they have.

And let's face it, has Hot Toys really gone all out with the Disney era figures? Excluding TFA droids and RO Darth Vader, their offerings are kind of lame. A bunch of Rey and Jyn dolls, a couple of mandatory supporting characters and a whole lotta troopers. No Poe, no screaming FO ginger officer, no old Leia, no Krennic, none of those other RO rebel guys except for the blind stick guy.

There is no data to support what I'm suggesting, but I would imagine if there were polls, a Hot Toys Darth Maul, prequel Obi-Wan, Amidala, Dooku, battle droids and clonetroopers would beat out Supreme Leader Snoke, Rey with her hair down, Finn in first order uniform, Old Luke with porgs, BB8 two pack, and more First Order troopers.

Look at what they're doing with video games. People seem to be more excited about being able to play the prequel/Clone Wars era elements than the new post 2015 Star Wars stuff. The majority of the fan base can love or hate the prequels all they want, that doesn't mean that they didn't create icons that people are generally nostalgic for. I bet even the most avid prequel hater has something that positively triggers their nostalgia sensors that would make them pony up $200-$250 for a representation of that feeling (unless it's some obscure fascination like Kitster or Jar Jar Binks, which I can assure you will never be represented in 1/6 form).

I don't really like the prequels, but a Hot Toys Darth Maul, Obi-Wan, Qui-Gon and certain clonetroopers would tempt me in the same way Vader, Tarkin, the Stormtroopers Boba Fett and Jedi Luke have. More so than any of the Disney movie characters so far. Other people have got to feel the same way. Would Hot Toys do that? I don't know.

Anakin is a start. Assuming he does well sales wise, which I'm sure he will, I don't see how the floodgates don't open to cater to prequel stuff. Especially as the OT well starts to dry up and the Disney movies continue to be same samey.

There you have it ladies and germs. Going into this thread, I would have said a 70%+ chance. If they do any more prequel figures at all,* the top of their list has to be McGregor Obi Wan and Dark Maul. And down the list from there I might expect prequel Yoda, Luke's momma, Liam Neeson, and Sam Jackson. Little Orphan Annie's sales will affect this probability of any of this, though.

*of course, troopers are more likely than anything else, but SSC may still plan on pumping out more of these, so HT may be backing off for now.

Can't really say what is more popular than what without knowing how many units of any given figure/toy are produced and then sold. The fact that supply exceeded demand for TFA doesn't mean that "TFA Character X" is less popular than "Prequel Character Y." Rey, Kylo, and BB-8 became instant icons as did Darth Maul. Very hard to say where pretty much all the other PT and Disney characters fall (other than legacy characters like old Han, Luke and Leia.)

Making only half the team of RO heroes (since even Baze appears to have fallen by the wayside) certainly influenced a lot of people to just pass on the characters that they did make. Imagine if the *only* ANH high end figures (from either HT or SSC) were Luke, Chewie, and 3PO. Sure many would be happy to see even those but I could see a lot of people saying "what a screwy representation of the heroes, I'll just get Luke and call it a day."

Obviously the current Disney films are killing it critically and financially compared to the polarizing PT which the majority of fans abhorred so I can see why it would make sense to focus on the new stuff while throwing an occasional one-off bone to PT fans like the current Anakin.

Unless my mind is playing tricks on me, didn't Hot Toys help Sideshow produce all those Stormtroopers and Clone Troopers from back in the day? I thought they did most of the work on that stuff.

If I'm not remembering wrong and Hot Toys helped them, then why would Hot Toys continue to help Sideshow when they could just make and release their own. Then again, the Sideshow Scout and Snowtrooper Kim's go against this idea.

All Hot Toys has to do is sculpt ONE really good clone trooper armor, two different helmets and two blasters, and they basically have a dozens of releases on their hands (that don't even include the unique Commanders that would inevitably be made).

Sideshow ain't doin' anything with any of that stuff anymore.

I don't follow SSC's behavior with prequel stuff at all, so I could be wrong. I just remember seeing what seemed like dozens of variations of those, some with the Django Fett sculpt, some without, one I think with a blue alien head?

I do recall HT being listed as a partner in creating them. Not sure of the precise role, though.

Imone I think with a blue alien head?

???

Why have I never heard about this until now.

Why is the blue cantina alien from Star Wars in a clone trooper suit? Why does he look so angry? How does his head fit under the trooper helmet mask?

Is that a 1/6 Hot Toys Battle Droid prototype at the end of that clip!?! :horror
