oh no... look, VIDEO of another GB empty theater :wave

but, laugh now, ill be the one laughing when this doesnt even break even.... 500 million.... China cant even save this.... 500 mil without the world's biggest market,
this movie has no opening competition on the box office yet it will be beat by a kids cartoon on its second weekend.:lol
ill laugh when this becomes number 2 on its own opening weekend with no other movie opening this week... ill laugh hard .:nana:

Since I usually go really early, I could probably take pics and show empty theaters as well. Doesn't mean anything. And I've been to several movies this year that have done very well and I've been the only one in the theater.

Why the hell do you guys care so much about this?

Star Trek Beyond is next weekend's release and with Secret Life of Pets more than likely bringing in large crowds, I wouldn't be surprised to see GB in 3rd place after next weekend.

I'm really excited about Star Trek! I'll have to catch it a couple of times this summer. :yess:

Let's see, after the studio released a trailer any honest person has to now admit was god awful. Sony & The filmmakers cried fake sexism and went on the attack. That's one of many reasons.

Anyway my girl and I are on our way out to see The Infiltrator. The Cineplex is in a college town, so I'll see how many SJWs are out supporting this film. Later! :chase

I never made that up, I said i read it somewhere else. go back to see my original post, tell me what it says. what does it say? what are my exact words??

Oh, sorry. You made it up AND you made up that you read it "somewhere else.":lol

And if it had made logical sense in any way, you MIGHT have gotten away with it.:rotfl

It wasn't made just for kids or young girls, it was made for the general public. And God knows Disney actresses can't act their way out of a paper bag. :lol

I'll take Raven Symone over Leslie Jones in a movie all day everyday.

If all men are stooges in this movie, how do you think women would critique the role of female characters in other 98% of action and comedy movies? Because I think their criticism would be that women are relegated to some sexualized role or the prize in some contest. How many movies include a woman's role as being kidnapped by a man and then rescued by another? That's the VAST majority of action and male centered comedy movies.

So how come ive NEVER read any complaints about the role of women in action movies or comedies?? The silence on that topic is deafening. So i guess the portrayal of women in those limited capacities was just a-ok. But when someone redefines men, then a gender discussion ensues.

This is the first time in 7 years on this site that I've even read a discussion about gender roles. And of course that discussion arises only when gender roles are non-traditional: men aren't the protagonists in this movie and apparently the male gender as a whole is non-traditional ("stooges" as someone wrote). So if your issue with gender roles was genuine, you would speak out about it more regularly, not just when the piece redefines men.

And because the topic has only been raised when men are redefined, it suggests that many are perfectly ok with gender stereotypes. Until the piece redefines their familiar gender role.

I think you raise an excellent point about gender roles in film, and perpetuating stereotypes, but I think the fundamental misunderstanding in this case, both on your part, and on theirs, is that you're mistaking "getting even" with "getting better." Is it really "progress" if you just subvert the gender roles and stereotypes and say "no, but it's okay, because it's not us." I'm not one of those "Men's Rights" douchebros, but, at its core, that kind of thinking, while feminist, is just as sexist as misogyny.

I don't know why you've never read any such complaints but I sure have. To the point that I feel it's almost cliche to read "unfortunately this strong female character is relegated to damsel-in-distress."

And I don't disagree. But I also don't believe there is any justice in simply reversing the stereotyping. Doing so is equally simple-minded. At this point I would say Paul Feige has gone above and beyond tit-for-tat gender bias with his "men aren't funny" essay and broad-stroke attacks on geek culture.

There is a relevant argument to be had on these topics but Paul Feig's Ghostbusters seems to be (I haven't seen it yet, basing this on what I've read) a club where a scalpel is needed.

ANd i don't agree that men need to suck it up because it's happened to women more often. That's utter ********. If you think you deserve to propagate what you are complaining about, you are part of the problem, not the solution.

Wow. Took that from 0-60 in about 1 second. You're making a huge, wild assumption I'm cool with women being portrayed as sex objects or dip****s so congrats on your assumption of me as a person. I'll get back to you with my dissertation on gender roles in film shortly. [emoji19]
