yeah i heard about the stallone project - that's something i simply won't be able to miss. you two are going to bankrupt me! you're like a homegrown hot toys.

my money is in the chris howes bank - the screaming head also. i promised i wasn't going to import too much stuff while the pound is so ridiculously crappy, but i couldn't let this one go buy. really looking forward to it. i got the head, the body - now i needs me some boots and a skirty poo.

Happy to be able to help dry up your bank account! :D

Trying very hard to keep it affordable as possible, actually. I want to get the highest quality work into the hands of people who really can appreciate it without breaking your bank accounts too wide open!

I've been told by someone I should be charging more for certain things, but I say "Screw that!!" Keep it reasonable, keep it fun....

I was thinking about how to approach the kilt... skirt...whatever.

This project has my full attention, but waiting to see a "finished figure"
(already have the Hot Toys head)

About Maximus' tunic; there are several options that are available right now: check Ebay for loose Ignite Roman parts, or look up Ebay-seller Ironcrosshunter. He has a pretty accurate Maximus tunic...

Now I'm thinking about what material to cast this out of. A friend suggested flexible urethane. This has advantages and disadvantages. It will be easier to fit onto a body because you can flex it, but it's harder for me to get a good casting due to the difference in viscosity between rigid and flexible urethane. Plus what about painting? Will that flake off too easily on flexible material?

The material I choose will effect my mold approach so I want to decide this well in advance.

Any preferences, thoughts or ideas?

Is it possible to cast it in black urethane, so you are only painting the highlights ? They shouldn't really flex to paint flake shouldn't be an issue. As a plus, the painting would be greatly simplified.

How about making a solid mold and cast in plasti dip?
BTW, I'll pay this week, but the problem is the same as with the Summer Glau HS. Living in France, how much do you want me to add for shipping? And can I add the price for the head in it?

If you want to experiment once the mold is made, it can't do any harm, but I'd stick with the material you're most familiar with. You want the low-relief figures on the breastplate to come out crisp when cast. I'd think whatever material gives you that result is the one to use.

I thought the plan to model it on the TrueType was met without opposition, so I don't get the concern. If someone wants to use a different body than the Hot Toys TrueType, well, bodies can be altered to fit the armor.

As for using plasti-dip...sheesh, really not a good material for fine details.

so is that $US130 in total for Armour and exclusive cranium

have any of u guys choosen a sword yet?

Actually, the precast discount for the armor is $100.00 and the cost of the screamin' Max is only $10.00 if you go ahead and prepay everything. I think $5.00 will cover shipping in the US, $7.00 international. If you can wait for both armor and head to ship together there will be only one shipping charge.

I thought it said on page one the precast amount on the armor was $100?

Thank you for pointing that out. Note how I was trying to correct the price, but wrote it exactly the same as the price I was trying to correct!! :banghead:duh:banghead

NOTE, CORRECT PRICING:

The correct precast price should be $100. The prepay precast head cost is $10.00. Shipping is $5.00 US, $7.00 international.

Sorry for any confusion! They shouldn't let me near a keyboard sometimes.....

Can you add me to the list please for amour and head. I am not sure what the payment arrangements are, can you let me know? I would prefer to see some photos beofre committing actual funds (although I have no doubt it will be great!).:banana. Let me know if this is OK. Thanks JeffTVR

OK! First photos of the breast plate and back piece at final thickness. Pardon my grubby mitts. Bruce Wayne is standing in for Maximus! These are just the foundation without ornamentation. I will take these hard super sculpey firm parts and apply casteline wax for the emblems, outer edge bead, straps. In fact, I bought a new wax pen to accurately melt on the wax. My old one kicked the bucket a while ago and this was a good excuse to get a new one! It should be here in a couple days.

This was the most difficult part of the project, getting the shape right so it fits and grinding to the proper thickness. Technically challenging but fun!

Now to finish the other parts.....

BTW, I was considering this semi-rigid resin from Smooth-On Smooth Cast 45D

How do you think the two halves can be connected, once on the body?
