Bale himself said it. "You're a nice guy". Which means that he knew he could bully him around. If you ask me, Bale's the prole. Let's see him try that ^^^^ with someone who would throw down in return.

And McG comes across like a huge girly-man in this whole thing. You're the 'effing director, wuss-head. If anyone on the set needs to man-up and have some balls, it's him. Bale was basically running the joint with his ego. Ridiculous.

Is it even acting anymore when you just play the tortured brooding guy? They should be able to have circus clowns and walrusses spinning plates on thier noses in the background. He HAS done this before.

Well, no doubt Bale made a mistake. I think he had a fight to pick and unfortunately, it ended with the DP. Overall, Bale was far more un-professional during the situation and clearly has a bit of an ego problem.

Ok guys, I feel the need to speak in defense of the crew here since I guess I am the only one posting here that actually makes a living as a film and TV crew (I am in the camera and lighting department) full time doing ACTUAL TV dramas or movies.

Yes, Bale might be having a hard day but do not for even a second try to assume that he is the only one having a hard day. The hardest working bunch of people are those you never see on screen.

The hours we have to work, the amount of heavy lifting, and the extremely high risk of personal safety for the technical crew (insurance companies put us in the same risk category as being a cop mind you), it's a life that only a few will choose.

Now, we do not know the full scope of the situation but this is my take, I wager that the DP was only making adjustment outside the frame, he didn't actually walk into the middle of the frame like most assumed here.

It is also very likely that the DP did this during a "keep rolling" situation where the director will do another take without actually cutting the cameras to maintain momentum and it is during this time that the DP might want to make a quick adjustment to the lighting (most of the time is because the actor misses his/her mark or did not stop at the proper position where the lights are the most optimal for his/her face).

It is also not weird to make minor adjustment during a long take. Rather than restarting the whole long scene because of something that is a minor fix, it is better to make a quick adjustment on the fly in the middle of the take so you still can use the rest of the take. The thing with shooting is that you don't use the whole take of a shot most of the time. You will intercut with other angles. When it comes to the less than optimal part, the editor will just cut away to another angle.

Mind you, I dare say this must be something really minor and doesn't affects Bale directly at all. If it was something really major, the DP would have told the director about it and he would have yelled 'CUT'. The fact that the DP actually did that means the director has no problem with it.

I worked with an actor recently that accuses me of ruining her take because I was being professional. I was doing sound recording that time and I had to stop the camera multiple times because of unbearable environmental noise that I know for a FACT will be rejected during post and will need a reshoot or a redub.

The actor complaint to the director multiple times about this and I told the director straight to the face, "I can choose to be sloppy and let you guys fix the mess yourself or I can be professional so you guys won't have any problem later".

The director supported my stand the the actor shut her mouth after that.

I mean, look at it this way, a few extra take and no one will be calling you a bad actor. One bad sound recording that I approved and everyone will be calling me unprofessional.

Same with the DP, one bad lighting or mistake in the scene and everyone will be saying he was being sloppy.

No one will see the bad take of Bale.

ps- DP means the Director of Photography and he is the head of the camera and lighting department. He is basically responsible for assiting the director in bringing his vision of the script to life. The DP is in a way the next most powerful person on the set after the Director.

Depending on the country, some DP operate their own camera (UK system) or some DP will have camera operators to do it (Hollywood system).

I do work as a DP in some smaller projects and I prefer to operate my own camera. It's more personal and much easier than trying to get another person to see what you have in your mind.

These two are MTV for two project I have shot for Singapore TV. One is a drama series, another telemovie. Probably not right up your alley but these two has been nominated for a few TV awards.

You're not the only one who works professionally on sets who posts here by the way. I agree with you on the sound issue, although here in the U.S. actors, even if the sound is bad will not like to be stopped dead in a take, since they have this post sound thing out here called ADR. It's where actors go into a little booth and record their dialogue when airplanes or car horns or any noise is recorded during a take. It's done on most any and all T.V. and features. Bottom line is Bale is a ^^^^ and shouldn't have acted like a cry baby on set and treated a crew member like that, even if he is the DP.

I don't think some of you realize how bad this will hurt his repuatation, its not some small time outbreak that will pass. The clip was played here in Edmonton on the local radio for crying out loud. Christian Bale will be effected by this don't kid yourselves.

Its leaked BIG TIME!

In hollywood this will probably help him get work.

Celebs get drunk, stoned, arrested and what to they get....most get a better gig then they had before.

Heck Keifer spent time in the can came out and is back to his day job as Jack Bauer.

Its a diffrent reality there.

THAT WAS GREAT! BALE IS THE MAN!!!! :rock

Now, it did feel a bit long....was it necessary? I don't know the whole situation: How was Bale's day? How was the DP's day? Was Bale extremely stressed and he needed to vent it all out on the DP's mistake?

I would be pissed if I was interupted in the middle of a shoot like that, someone walking in front of the camera while I was filming a scene would drastically piss me off. But I don't know if I would react like that, if I was stressed out all day and it was building up to that point....then I might, who knows.

I want to say that this happens a lot in the movie making business, but it isn't captured on audio and released like this with high profile actors. But then again what do I know?

Now, when we see in the news that he showed up at the DP's car after work dressed as Batman for the sole purpose of beating the ^^^^ out of this guy... then we'll know he may be going a bit too far.

HAHA, that might be one of the greatest moments ever!

The ^^^^ty thing about this is all you get is Bale's rant, it's shocking to hear that he'd speak that way, but without following the whole filming and especially the day and moments around this, there's not telling what was going on. He could have been on stress overload from something and this was just the event that made him snap. I've had explosive moments before, when you bottle the little stuff too long and you pop. I do know from what I've seen in interviews and behind the scenes, Bale is very committed to his work, hell look at the weight loss he went through :sick. I find it more sad someone's publishing this one outburst with no legitimate context to support it or anything than the outburst itself.

Ditto!

:lol:lol:lol:lol:lol:lol:lol

Bale's career isn't going to miss a beat no matter how many people act like they are appaled by what he said to this guy. I think this just makes him even cooler

too many know-it-alls in here :lol

I always get a kick when people condemn someone else who they know nothing about except for what they read on internet gossip columns..

This will have about the same effect on Bale as when Russel Crowe beat the ^^^^ out of someone with a telephone. None.

lol :lol forgot about that one. How classic is that, a f'n telephone! :rotfl:rotfl
