Re: Christopher Reeve Superman PF

The wife likes it and so do I.
Can't wait to use that preorder button on Thursday!

Re: Christopher Reeve Superman PF

I wish people would stfu about the extra cost. It's for charity :slap

How do you know that ink? I repeat "portion" doesn't automatically equal the extra $25.

BTW, I give plenty of money to charity so I don't need to buy a statue to give to a good cause.

Re: Christopher Reeve Superman PF

For me its both but thats just like, my opinion man.

I understand.

In my opinion, they should save the more interpretive poses for comic versions, and go more iconic for the movie versions. I can understand that iconic can seem too safe, and more boring than a dynamic pose like this, but Sideshow took a risk with this, and it did not pay off. This thread would be very different if they'd played it safe with the hands on the hips pose.

I think that the sculptors probably don't like safe either. It's probably boring to sculpt the hands on hips pose. Where's the fun in chiseling away at that?

However, it's the customers that have to like it, and live with it. I think with an apple pie piece like this, they should have considered the populist appeal of the "boring" pose.

Also, I can almost hear the discussion in the photography studio..."So wait, what they hell are we supposed to do with this green crystal?" "I dunno... Just lay it on the floor next to the statue and take the pic so's we can go to lunch already!"

Useless exclusive.

Yeah, I agree, sculptors would likely be 'man, boring pose to sculpt' but a safer pose may have netted them more sales. We'll see how much interest there is maybe when the ES goes up. I can't wait to have him personally being almost exclusively a movie PF collector I can't wait to have him next to the Keaton PF.

Re: Christopher Reeve Superman PF

I'm happy we finally have a Reeve PF made but it could have been done better.

Reeve's Superman will always be the true Superman for me. What made Reeve so great at that role is that he didn't need much 'help' looking the part. He had that role down so good it was just uncanny.

A more simple or stoic pose would have been better.

I have to agree with Sideshow. This scene alone still shows why nobody is going to top Reeve. I wished they would have done something based off this:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_izM3y2SE44

I'd have been ok with him walking out of a door or hovering over the helipad base.

Overall, I hope this statue turns out like Green Lantern's
Prototype picture: Not promising
In Hand Pictures: Better order fast
In Person: stands out as one of the best statues

Re: Christopher Reeve Superman PF

It's almost too bad there have been so many crystal-themed pieces that came out before this. The Hoover Dam base seems like a conscious effort to be different. But again, a crystal base with the control podium would've been so much better. It could have offered a light up feature in the crystals, and it would make the green crystal exclusive have meaning.

Plus, the crystals are a huge part of Reeve's character. The other nice thing is they could also represent a scene from Superman II, which is just as popular, and perhaps even more beloved than the Earthquake sequences. The crystals are almost a character themselves, and to ignore Superman's DNA in a piece like this is again, a misstep.

And yet, despite the crummy pose, mediocre head sculpt, and inferior base choice... I still sort of want it. :dunno. I just love this film character so dearly. It's not... horrible. But it seems like it woulda been so easy to do it better than this.

This Superman Premium Format Figure is the GRAIL!!!

Re: Christopher Reeve Superman PF

Ok, I have to admit that the full reveal looks so much better but forget about the pose, the base kills everything. For a minute I don't understand it but I guess Sideshow tries to differentiate this Pf from the other products which are related to Chris Reeve's Superman. However I don't think it works. After seeing this base, I thought they could be more creative at the Comic Pf's base rather than movie's one. In fact comic one's pose could be more like movie's Pf cause he has so many iconic poses in action in comics. Chris Reeve's should be more simple cause he is awesome Chris Reeve's you know:) For the people who will PO him, I am happy but this is not my cup of tea...
