Church to protest Comic-Con because of 'idol worship'

The Topeka, Kansas-based Westboro Baptist Church, which is headed by Fred Phelps and which has made headlines over the past few years for a series of protests of events such as the funerals of Meet the Press host Tim Russert (because of his Catholicism and what they termed his "tolerance of homosexuality") and Jerry Falwell (whom they termed a "false prophet') and perhaps most notably the funerals of American servicemen killed overseas, have announced that they plan to picket the upcoming San Diego Comic-Con from 1:15 pm to 2 p.m. on Thursday, July 22.
<!-- Secondary Media Source BEGINS -->
<!-- /Secondary Media Source ENDS -->The reason they're going to protest the con? We think it's best described in their own words, as posted on their website:
"Are you kidding?! If these people would spend even some of the energy that they spend on these comic books, reading the Bible, well no high hopes here. They have turned comic book characters into idols, and worship them they do! Isaiah 2:8 Their land also is full of idols; they worship the work of their own hands, that which their own fingers have made: 9 And the mean man boweth down, and the great man humbleth himself: therefore forgive them not. It is time to put away the silly vanities and turn to God like you mean it. The destruction of this nation is imminent - so start calling on Batman and Superman now, see if they can pull you from the mess that you have created with all your silly idolatry."

If you literally worship/pray to your staues/collectibles then yes its idol worshiping but I would bet the majority (high %) of collectors do no such thing. I've had this debate before and there is no way the two should be associated together. Now, shrines? :lol maybe, I know i'm partially guilty of that.

Geez, these guys really will protest at anything that does not fall within their so called 'religion'. Some might say they are guilty of 'Idol Worship' themselves, maybe they should look a little closer to home before judging others.

I wish I was going to the Con anyway but even moreso now so I could make out with a sexy gal right in front of them :pfft:
x :lol

Even if people would worship idols, what the hell has that got to do with them? These retarded churches should really start to mind their own business.

That church has already told me I'm going to hell once. :lol Bunch of fools.

Thinking about joining this church. Once I infiltrate I will crush it from the inside :devil

Are these the azzclowns that stand protesting at the military funerals??? If so, I'd like to go to SDCC just to dedicate time harassing the crap out of them. Can someone say projectile vomiting??

Someone should just go past them saying loud enough so that they hear:

"My God! This is the best thing since Christ's resurrection"

Or saying some graphic novel is your bible or some ____.

Bloody ________s.

These a**holes do not represent the Church---They are on their own hate-filled mission. And I do not think that mission is from God.

There will be no idol worship for me this year.......

Vampire Eric is not coming. :(
