Re: CM Aragorn preview pics

Bruce Willis is Aragorn in Lord of the Rings: The Return of the Ring

Well,The likeness may not be perfect but its wayyyyyy better than those Weta pieces...

Anyone know how big this thing is? Just curious. And the likeness is WAY off. SS's 12" offering isn't spot on, but you know who it's supposed to be on first glance.

1/3 scale, about 24" tall.

As I said in the other aragorn thread, the pics from the side look alright, but head on the face looks bad. The base and the costume both look great. I will agree that the face does look better than the weta aragorn, but not as good as the weta elessar.

Based on the current images...

Like: Design, Tailoring, Weapons, Base (sans nameplate)
Dislike: Hair (although it looks good on the prototype image, I have a feeling the production piece won't be as good and will be hard to maintain) I prefer sculpted, Pose, Nameplate

Regarding the likeness to Viggo, it's not awesome but that doesn't bother me. I know it's Aragorn.

How much do these things cost? No matter how detailed the costume or weapons are, for the price of these, they should be a lot better.

Does anyone have prototype photos?

I think that we know it's Aragon based on the clothing. I bet if we just saw the face with no other give aways, it'd be a hard to tell who that was supposed to be. I certainly don't see Viggo in that sculpt.

I'd prefer an acurate laser scaned piece to an off represention sculpt. I appreciate the sculpt but I'd rather it look like the actual actor. Just another reasone Obi Wan is one of the best PF's yet.

I dont like it one bit. He looks fat in that outfit, not to mention cheap. There's no likeness to Viggo whatsoever. Normally I dont care about likeness at all, and hadnt this been CM, I would have liked it. But if you are coughing up that much cash for a piece, it better look like its worth it. And this definately aint worth it.

If I'd look on the bright side of it, I'd say it does resemble a human perfectly. the piece also has this 'wild' look on it. Indeed as if a scruffy Ranger has become King. Also, the piece is very shiny! And for some reason I'm always drawn to shiny objects

I think he looks like a really mean version of Doogie Howser MD...

When the scale is much bigger than most collectible statues there's really no excuse for such a ****ty likeness and even though the costume and weapons look great there's no way on earth that it's worth the $1500 asking price. For that price I'd expect a likeness of the same standard as PF Obi-Wan at the very LEAST but the CM Aragorn and Arnie as T-850 both fall short of that quality. I guess it's true that the most expensive things aren't always the best.

I'm not digging the likeness at all.

Costume is very impressive though.

I'll definitely be waiting for the 1/4 Strider from SS(hoping anyways).

I think this is an excellent likeness of an Aragorn impersonator featured at film premieres, Renaissance Fairs, and children's birthday parties. And a successful one--by the looks of it, the guy's not starving to death. But if it is meant to be Viggo, I rank this likeness below anything by Sideshow/Weta, below the Sideshow 12" figure, and below the upcoming GG bust. And for this I should pay $1500?

The problem is that it looks so authentically life-like in its resemblance to someone other than Viggo, that your brain has a hard time connecting the dots and seeing a little bit of Viggo in there at all...

I don't think comparisons to GG are really fair. I mean they use scanning, while most of our other companies use sculpts. Personally I like sculpts a lot better. Certainly much more required if you don't use scans.

I disagree. Many companies that do use scanning don't get accurate likenesses. There is more to Gentle Giant than scanning. There are sculpters and painters who contribute a great deal to ensuring an accurate likeness.

Re: CM Aragorn preview pics

It actually doesn't look too bad too me... The hairline is a little wierd, but that might be the nature of the hair plugs... The face looks like it is made of soft material... this makes me think there is a lot of chance for variance from piece to piece.

Is this the way it has been with the T3 piece?
