Re: Classic "Tough Guys" thread - Bogart, Cagney,Weissmuller (Tarzan), Cooper & other
Ok, sometimes unexpected gifts can be found in the most unexpected circumstances...guess that goes for sculpts also...
A while back, I read somewhere that it would be worth getting a 12" universal invisible man made by Hasbro (not the Sideshow version), because of a hidden sculpt underneath the bandages. Kind of like hoping to get a nice prize at the bottom of a Cracker Jack box, but it doesn't end up that way...
Some time later, I found one being offered on ebay for $20. Although I'm not necessarily a fan of the invisible man, I thought I would take a chance on this hidden sculpt having a likeness to Claude Rains. Claude starred in the role, but also starred in such classic films like "Casablanca" with Humphrey Bogart, "Notorious" with Ingrid Bergman and Cary Grant, "The Wolfman" where he played Larry Talbot's father, etc.
Well, as I unwrapped the bandages, I found a clear (see through) sculpt, similar to the picture below (although the one below is a picture of a white resin version which I found on the web, after the fact):
That clear sculpt seemed ok, but as I started to paint it recently, Claude's likeness started to shine through. I have photoshopped an initial picture of him that has placed him in a library setting...I will slowly keep working on his paint job for a "Notorious" bash, or maybe an addition to my Casablanca Bogart....
It's definitely worth the price to pick up one of these Hasbro Invisible Man figures, if only for just the sculpt hidden underneath!
