Re: Classic Actors & Tough Guys - Bogart, Cagney, Wayne, Eastwood, Dean & Others...

Thanks guys! Nope, I didn't sculpt it from scratch, but took an old action figure had that I had and modified it. I was afraid that the mold and casting wouldn't turn out ok but it did...

Joel....do a search on ebay for an action man tank jacket. This is what you will find...I had to color the fur collar black, but I think it's a good match! The actual color of the jacket is lighter than in this picture because of the lighting..

Nice, I like that Dean Martin!

Nice jacket mate, the fur collar looks perfect but I think the material is more like James Dean's Red Windbreaker over the leather look! What do you think mate?

Re: Classic Actors & Tough Guys - Bogart, Cagney, Wayne, Eastwood, Dean & Others...

You are definitely right about the the windbreaker material over the leather...the jacket is actually tan though, and looks a little less leathery than the brownish picture I posted....anyway, thought you would like to know...

Re: Classic Actors & Tough Guys - Bogart, Cagney, Wayne, Eastwood, Dean & Others...

This is what it looked like before I colored the fur...pretty close. But if it were fabric, it would be spot on..for me I think it works :). I'm waiting on the checkered one because that's the one I really want..

Yeah! Thanks ever so much for letting me know! Well I am in talk with the tailor who made my Elvis blazer and who is making a more accurate Rebel Dean Red Jacket so I will see what they come back with! )

I think I have actually seen them before! Looks much better with the fur black mate!

Re: Classic Actors & Tough Guys - Bogart, Cagney, Wayne, Eastwood, Dean & Others...

Yeah! The check one will be really cool but I really want mine from the end scene so hopefully the tailor can do it to perfection!

Hey Joel,

I started to become curious on the fur collared coat that Brando wore, based on your comments. I never really thought about it much, but started to look at the picture below and noticed that near the bottom of the coat, it looks like leather. So I searched further and found the text below (from the American Film Institute) that describes it as leather. Doesn't mean it was of course, because it looks like a windbreaker type in other pictures. I did a search and found that aero carries "Waterfront" jackets but not that exact one.

Anyway, if nothing else, am interesting trivia question! Do you know for a fact that it was cloth? Does anyone out there know?

What does Joey's jacket symbolize?
JesseDrucker Mar 8, 2010
After Joey is murdered by Johnny Friendly and the union, his father gives his jacket to Dugan. After only a few days wearing the jacket, Dugan is also killed by the mob. It is almost ironic that the two owners of the same jacket were killed only a few days apart. It appears as if this jacket is not giving people the best of luck. Both Joey and Dugan spoke to the police about what was going on at the waterfront, with that jacket in their possesion. When Edie gives the jacket to Terry, he is at first reluctant to wear it and says that his jacket is good enough. In every scene Terry is in a plaid jacket, so when Edie offers him this new leather jacket Terry is arrogant about wearing something new.But he takes the jacket, and after he testifies against the union, he is seen at the docks wearing this jacket. Terry wearing this jacket represents many things. First, it shows a change in Terry who was at first a tough guy and didnt need anyones help or sympathy. Taking that jacket and wearing it around shows that he no longer wants to be a "bum" and he wants to stand up for what he believes in, just as Joey and Dugan did earlier. IT also shows a fresh start, Terry wants a clean slate without the union on his every move. Although Edie and Terry have not decided where to go from here, they will hopefully continue to stay happily together. Lastly, this represents how Terry choose a side. After being unable to pick from the union (the hawks) or the other workers (the pigeons) he realizes that he wants to be a pigeon. He no longer wants to associate himself with the murderers he used to hang around with. Terry wants to be a good honest man who has something good happen in his life, as he expresses to the priest about how happy he is with Edie. The jacket symbolizes his final choice and how he decided to go out with the old and in with the new. Hopefully, Terry wearing this jacket will not lead (like Dugan and Joey) to his death.

You just need to weather that leather jacket up and it will look perfect. Maybe create some pockets too.

Hey Geronimo,

Well every time I have seen a image of Brando wearing that jacket, I have always just jumped to the conclusion on it being a windbreaker type material due to, that is how it looks. But now, seeing that full size image including the bottom of it. It appears that, that theory is out the window. haha. Looks a leather type jacket for sure and now seeing it with that stitched bottom piece, you really see how thick it is also leading to believe it is leather. Still, not to sure on what colour it would be. Before you brought this up, I alway imagined it a dark blue or grey windbreaker with a black collar! I have no idea now! haha

Re: Classic Actors & Tough Guys - Bogart, Cagney, Wayne, Eastwood, Dean & Others...

Ok DA, thanks for your thoughts. I've never weathered up leather before. Usually it's been the opposite for me, trying to maintain leather goods as lomg as possible. It will be fun to figure out how without messing it up..

Joel, it turns out that this may be a pretty good trivia question! I don't know what color it was but I agree with you, leaning towrd grey. I'm going to continue to research but if you find out anything, please post!

I will do for sure mate! Come to think of it, if it is a leather jacket, it would be most probably brown leather with a black fut collar? Or maybe a dark grey/ black with black collar? I would be leaning towards Brown with Black like yours is if the jacket is leather!

Re: Classic Actors & Tough Guys - Bogart, Cagney, Wayne, Eastwood, Dean & Others...

Have not done anything to this for the past few weeks but thought I would show the half of the face that is close to completion minus the ears and hair!

Warren Beatty.

Sculpting him for a Bonnie and Clyde era look. Great movie!

Re: Classic Actors & Tough Guys - Bogart, Cagney, Wayne, Eastwood, Dean & Others...

Even at this early stage, I definitely see the likeness! That's going to be a great bash...Bonnie and Clyde...good movie!

Re: Classic Actors & Tough Guys - Bogart, Cagney, Wayne, Eastwood, Dean & Others...

You know, if you put a monkey in a room with a typewriter eventually he may type something. DA's iminime Clint is the best figure in terms of likeness that I believe I've ever seen. It's inspired me to try to keep inching closer towards it with mine. Although I know I won't get there, I think I've made some progress from the time I first painted him up. Funny thing is, I thought he looked good (at the time) in the first pic :slap! Urg, was he far off or what?! The second pic is where he's at now..

Cheers Geronimo, for sure!

Very nice! That re-paint has improved that Clint Eastwood Head Sculpt 100% in terms of likeness, does it have a removable hat?

Re: Classic Actors & Tough Guys - Bogart, Cagney, Wayne, Eastwood, Dean & Others...

Yeah, his hat comes off. I will keep working on him...
