That is understandable! It looks great other than that mate. How I do blonde hair (usually doing just a dry brush) I make a brown and gradually add a beige colour and very slight tints of yellow and burnt sienna to the initial brown hair colour.

Ok, great, thanks! I'm going to try that and see where I go...

Yeah! Give it a go, I use to hate doing blonde hair too but when you get it how you like, it's simple!

Re: Classic Actors & Tough Guys - Bogart, Cagney, Wayne, Eastwood, Dean & Others...

That clip got me to think...think of the following...

Actually, I think Eastwood was the first Anti-hero, but only of the westerns. The Anti-hero appeared earlier in the form of Brando, and earlier than that Bogart, and earlier than that, Cagney (Pubic Enemy) and earlier than that, Paul Muni (Scarface). Funny how all of us are attracted a bit more to Anti-heroes and to a lesser extent heroes...

And, Clint made the audience laugh when he asked how many people wouldn't shoot someone in the back? That's because westerns began to stress realism with Clint's movies, over a combination of realism and moral responsibility with John Wayne. Wayne realized that pictures could be used to influence (both positively and negatively) the public. He chose not to compromise (for the most part) his values and beliefs for the sake of profit. That's why he chose not to be in a movie like for example, High Noon (which depicted the townspeople at large as cowards who ran away from trouble for their own well being). To Clint's defense, he didn't compromise his values either, difference being that he's atheist. Different values and beliefs...

Thanks for posting that clip, DA! Maybe I shouldn't have taken it to that level of scrutiny, but I did...makes you think..

Yeah, I also Lol when I thought of Wayne commenting on what Clint would have done...

Yeah, when I said the anti hero was born, it was in regards to westerns. Fist Full of Dollars was a remake of Yojimbo, which was a copy performance of Toshiro Mifune as a Samurai for hire. Eastwood watched that movie before filming with Leone and got many ideas from the great Japanese actor on how to play the character.

Wayne and Eastwood were from different generations and it shows in their style of movies. The Duke wanted High Noon to be like Rio Bravo and Eastwood took the original "coward" concept even further in High Plains Drifter. Nuff said :lol

As far as the Brando hs paint for bleached blonde hair, I think starting with a darker base brown and adding lighter shades of yellow & tan is the way to go. I would use a combo of washes and then dry brush to get the look you want.

Thanks as well, DA! I appreciate the info. I had done blonde hair for a McQueen figure a while back, but I forgot how I got there. Certainly not as easy doing blonde. The tips are going to help, and what I may do is write down the steps that I take (on second thought, yeah, right, I will never do that :))..

Re: Classic Actors & Tough Guys - Bogart, Cagney, Wayne, Eastwood, Dean & Others...

Looking forward to seeing your results. Use a mix of burnt & raw sienna for the base & build your layers from there. Good luck Geronimo.

Re: Classic Actors & Tough Guys - Bogart, Cagney, Wayne, Eastwood, Dean & Others...

Yeah, I am too! Looking forward to how those two come out and I will soon be throwing up a image on my sculpt of a early 1950's Monty Clift! ;)

Wow, that was fast Joel. Can't wait to see your new hs :)

Well it is not finished yet pal but it is starting to look great in my opinion! Personally so far, my favourite sculpt I have done! ;)

Okay, so thought I would show something of it and to be honest, I am very happy with it and once I finally complete Brando(s) and Dean(s) that I am happy with, Clift is going to fit in perfectly! It is getting there on this side now though!

Okay, so I started a new Brando, based of of this image for the expression and I am currently thinking what film to actually base it off so I can sculpt the hair to match the film! Really tempted to do a Young Lions version like Geronimo!

Re: Classic Actors & Tough Guys - Bogart, Cagney, Wayne, Eastwood, Dean & Others...

Why wouldn't you? Great film, Brando was great in it, and you will also have Monty Clift! Btw, Clift co-starred with our other buddy John Wayne...:)

Yeah, that is what I was thinking although, my Clift was him young so probably would not be a perfect match to be honest! Yeah, Red River right?

Re: Classic Actors & Tough Guys - Bogart, Cagney, Wayne, Eastwood, Dean & Others...

Ha ha, ok gentlemen...I've got every color under the sun in this new version...burnt seina, brown, yellow, gold, silver, tan, white, and grey I believe...it was sure fun experimenting! And yet, I still don't know if it came out better than the bleach grey that I had...

Votes please! Original on the left, or Cosmopolitan on the right? :)

Re: Classic Actors & Tough Guys - Bogart, Cagney, Wayne, Eastwood, Dean & Others...

I think it has too much yellow Geronimo. The key to blonde is going for a cream type or tan color over a dark base. I prefer the white over the yellow :)
