Yeah, I would leave off "Hong Kong". It was the weakest road picture and only featured a cameo from Lamour and featured a young Joan Collins in the lead female role. It did have a great comedic scene with Peter Sellers though, giving us a preview of a similar character he played in "The Party".

If you don't remember... here it is!

I have never seen that clip...funny, funny! Sellers does a great job...

My favorite lines:

Hope: What are you a doctor or a dentist?

Sellers: What do you need?

Here's one more close up pic...

Thanks Ichy! We've had some fun here on this thread...! No plans for WC Fields as of yet because I'm still trying to figure out what to do with Bing and Bob...doesn't mean you couldn't tackle him though! He would make a good subject, and with a sculpt from Peter the Painter, and clothes from the Willie Wonka figure, poof, there it is! Your thoughts?

I would also like to see someone try to make a Fields figure. I don't think the Wonka clothes would work, Fields was two inches shorter than Wilder and Fields was a stout guy. I also think Spencer would be a better choice as a sculptor, I still marvel at what a fantastic job he did with Stan and Ollie.

If I were to give it a go I would definitely have to go with Pete, his done four commissions for me already this year and he's just getting better and better. Not to mention he's affordable, Spencer does fantastic work but he is a little pricey for what I can afford. Peter's one off commissions cost about the same as one of Spencer's molds.

As for the outfit, I think Jim is right, the Wonka clothing would be too skinny.
I was thinking of the pants and waistcoat that came with the HT Nicholson Joker.

You want them to be a little small and kinda tight.
I could then make him a nice top hat out of felt and do him as, my take on, Mr micawber:)

I'm loving your work on these guys and Jim's suggestion with the signs will be perfect and, yes, I agree leave Hong Kong out of it.

Oh, baby, be still my beating heart! Ichy, that's going to be a Great figure!! I agree with you on Peter. No question, Spenser has done some incredible work (I have worked with his Beatles and Laurel and Hardy sculpts which are top notch), but Peter's sculpts are very, very good as well (with much quicker turnaround time, and priced reasonably).

I have a place that can make oversized pants quickly and easily if you need this. They are called "Project Are" and you can find information on them earlier in this thread. They did the pants for Lou Costello as well as Oliver Hardy.

I can't wait to see how he turns out! Keep us posted!

Btw, the expression on the baby"s face in the picture you posted is a riot. Maybe there is a 1/6 scale baby somewhere that you can have him hold...Fields hated kids...!

Cool, thanks for the tip on Project Are. I had not heard of them before, they look great.
Yes, Peter's turn around time is amazing. I recently asked him if he would do the two main characters from Deadwood for me and I had them in my hands within five days!!!!

Here's a figure I'm working on right now using those Joker pants and with a tall derby I made. It's another character in my Deadwood series, this time Sol Star and another great sculpt from Peter.

As for the baby, maybe one of those weird Lakor babies would work?

Sadly, we lost one really funny guy today.

Rest in peace Jonathan Winters.

Re: Classic Comedians Thread - Laurel and Hardy, Marx Brothers, Jack Benny & others..

Thanks for your posting, Jim. Yes, I agree whole heartedly. He was one of the greats. Rest in peace...he will be missed. Here are a couple of paragraphs about his characters that I found online:

Many of Mr. Winters’s characters — among them B. B. Bindlestiff, a small-town tycoon, and Piggy Bladder, football coach for the State Teachers’ Animal Husbandry Institute for the Blind — were based on people he grew up with. Maude Frickert, for example, whom he played wearing a white wig and a Victorian granny dress, was inspired by an elderly aunt who let him drink wine and taught him to play poker when he was 9 years old.

Other characters, like the couturier Lance Loveguard and Princess Leilani-nani, the world’s oldest hula dancer, sprang from a bizarre secret compartment of Mr. Winters’s inventive brain.

As channeled by Mr. Winters, Maude Frickert was a wild card. Reminiscing about her late husband, Pop Frickert, she told a stupefied interviewer: “He was a Spanish dancer in a massage parlor. If somebody came in with a crick in their neck he’d do an orthopedic flamenco all over them. He was tall, dark and out of it.”

One of Mr. Winters’s most popular characters, she appeared in a series of commercials for Hefty garbage bags, which also featured Mr. Winters as a garbage man dressed in a spotless white uniform and referring, in an upper-class British accent, to gar-BAZH. Johnny Carson kidnapped Made Frickert and simply changed the name to Aunt Blabby, one of his stock characters. Mr. Winters said that the blatant theft did not bother him.

Well, I think I'm done...not only done with Hope and Crosby, but done with what I hoped to accomplish...to recreate the classic comedy teams in the one sixth world. Yes, there are others, but these are the greats.

And there are other great comedians yet to be done as well...but I don't think there are any more for me (unless I'm really compelled by something unforeseen that is released in the future). Whew....ok, guys, your turn!

Hey Jerry. I've been away for the weekend and didn't have a chance to comment on Bing and Bob. They look very at home in the jungles of Zanzibar. The signs really make that dio look complete, you really did a great job with that backdrop for your figures. I have to say I am a bit envious of that set-up.

I have to tell you, that you have done great work with this thread and I am always entertained and impressed with your work.

I don't remember you posting any pictures of the Stooges here, and was surprised to see them with the rest of your fantastic creations. Could you possibly post some more shots?

Although you are done making any more of the great comics, please don't let this thread die... I just love it so much and I'll miss it.

Re: Classic Comedians Thread - Laurel and Hardy, Marx Brothers, Jack Benny & others..

Hey Jim,

I just saw your posting on the Classic Actors thread...wow, looks like you were in a pretty nice place! I cracked up when you mentioned Road to Zanzibar to them! Yep, when you think of romance, Hope and Crosby don't immediately come to mind...:panic:

Thanks for all of your helpful comments and support! I loved your idea on the signs - they really helped to make the dio...

Don't worry, I'll be around on this thread whenever you need me...I kinda like it here...not because of the comedians, but really because of you, your insights and your posts. Besides, we go back a bit...remember trying to get our A & C sculpts from Mexico! Remember trying to get those derbies right with Stan and Ollie? Remember (strongly) disliking Chaplin's derby? Hey, too much history here...besides, you have to finish up your A & C dio!

My Stooges figures are just the regular 12" ones that you can buy out of the box. That's why I haven't posted any pictures because I haven't done anything to them other than pose them. I will post some pictures of them though in the next week or so...

I can't think of any additional comedians that I would really like to have. Oh, there's Gleason and Carney, and Barney Fife and Andy, and maybe Johnny Carson that I've thought about. But really, I think I've reached where I want to be...

But...this thread can act as an opportunity for others (Itchy are you there?) to post their classic comedians, as well as maybe continue to act as a reference point of information for them. Maybe you and I can kinda act as elder statesmen (although in the grand spirit of things, I refuse to go over 39, like Jack Benny).

What I mean is, if we find any web resources or information that would fit into this thread, we post it. Just like you did the other day for Jonathan Winters (btw, I miss his humor already). What do you say?! Are you in?!

I have not kept track with this thread like the other! Who did the sculpts? They look awesome! Very nice!

Re: Classic Comedians Thread - Laurel and Hardy, Marx Brothers, Jack Benny & others..

Hey Joel..thanks! No one did these sculpts. The Bob Hope is a Hasbro figure that you can find online. I didn't modify it at all. The Bing Crosby sculpt is off an automated figure I found online as well...you will see pictures on previous pages of this thread...

Of course I'm in! I'm just so glad to know that this is not the end of this great thread. I just wish that more people shared our interest in these funny men.

Oh, by the way I have contacted Kumik with my new address and they said I will be getting Chaplin's new derby in the mail shortly. I'm looking forward to see it in hand, I know you got yours and were not too impressed so I'm not all that optimistic.
