Well I just finished masking off the 501st. I have one major question. Do they have stripes on the arm and leg or not? I seem to keep finding conflicting images.

Well I started today and right on que as I am trying to paint a detailed part someone bangs on my door. :censored So I try to use a lil thinner to get it off but that just makes a bigger mess :censored. Now I have this blue tint instead of white.

Now how can i fix this or do I just need to repaint it white? Hopefully thats not the case I am not sure I can get it to match and dont want to repaint the whole figure.

Well the first stage is done. I need to do some touch up work on them but here they are so far.

I will. No worries there he will get the doily treatment.

I gave Josh this pic as a reference. I believe it was Scarlet posted this pic.

are there dogs on Coruscant?(spl?)

im not knocking it,it looks great ,just the brown is such a 'doggy doo' color,or he was at the Jedi temple when the 's*** really hit the fan'

Take some flat black and do a watered down mix (don't get it too thin..you may have to play around with this). Use thes color as your "dirt" and "burn" marks. I would use an exacto knife and scrape some of the corners/details of the armour the the wash settles in nicely. Us a the brown wash for 'rusted' areas like the 'ears' and 'ankle' joints. You can add slightly thicker browns and blacks on top of some of the wash areas to indicate the higher damaged areas. After that is completed I would go back in with an exacto and scrape in some damage lines (so you see the white) across the washed and blue areas. Don't go over board. Use any photo reference you have for any of the troopers and copy some of the scrape lines. Hope this helps.

Thanks, the main reason I stopped after I pulled of the masking was I didn't get the exact results I had hoped for. I figured let it set and rethink how to do some things and figure a good way to fix some of the problem areas.

The one big issue I have is how to fix the big mess I made on the helmet, the top bar that is white got a bit of blue and I thought I could use a lil thinner and wipe it clean, opps, now it had blue tint on the whole thing.

This is a difficult glossy surface to paint on. The paint tends to build up on top rather than absorb into it. That's what caused the paint to bunch up. For the ruff spots, it's better to use those as your battle damage areas and scrape them off, going into the blue areas. As for your blue tint....That's a hard one. You don't want to try to strong of a thinner because you might damage the plastic. Maybe a real fine (at least 320) sand paper and lightly sand a small area to see if that helps. I know this sounds funny...but you may also want to try dish washing liquid first as a non-abbrasive method.

Well its done I think I went to far with the black ohh well lesson learned.

Here's my current W.I.P , Commander Bly . He's a combination of BBI body , Hasbro armour ,(mostly) and custom resin helmet and chest armour .( The pistols are just for the purposes of the photo ).

Idealy speaking and assuming you get the armor off, you'll want to wash whatever you are going to paint with warm water and citric acid based soap (think dish soap) to get the mold release off. Mold release will hinder painting and is generally what cause paint to chip pr scrape off. Also after you wash it you shouldn't have to use primer but I recommend base coating in grey or white depending on what color you're going to paint over it.

And on the subject of Clones here the one I made some months back:
