Not cool! I haven't even seen the show, so I can't really make fair comments as to how it turned out, so go figure.

Not cool where this is all going and I hate all this gossip BS! I didn't agree to this becoming any kind of gossip news! I need to learn to watch what I say as this was all in the context of my former studio buddies and I BSing about my segment which again, I haven't even seen! They were poking fun and of course we say things between friends that could easily be taken differently. What I said wasn't meant to be negative towards the show but more or less in defense of me being on "one of those" reality shows. Again, just BSing with old buddies for laughs!

The crew was hard working and kind, the host was also cool and professional, the title I originally got was just a "working title", and by the end of the show I would have to say it was an experience that did become very helpful in our lives. I did sell things off and they got me to think about selling off more of my collection that wasn't as important and also helped us in organizing my stuff at home. My point was that it wasn't easy shooting by any means as we weren't prepared for what was involved, but they accommodated us as best they could.

Okay but I'm callking shennanigans if I see your collection on Toy Hunter next week. ;)

In all seriousness you have a ton of awesome stuff. I saw SDCC Rescue Cap and Clone Commander Fox in your collection. How long ago did they film it?

They filmed about a week after SDCC! July is normally a crazy month for me anyways, but throw in a Reality Show, it gets even more insane! I had a comic deadline, I have a full time job working at a hospital, SDCC, dealing with extra work at home since the wife and kids were abroad, dealing with an injured foot (which I finally had diagnosed as bad tendinitis and made worse by all the running around I was doing and ignoring the pain), and everything else. The show had nothing to do with this as I was already just pushing myself that whole month. Believe me, walking around at SDCC was not fun for me at all this year! Ouch!
I talk to Sean Long and Raquel and I know they did their segment literally after getting back from SDCC! My wife & I did ours right after Sean's and she literally just got back from abroad, so she was extremely tired and jet lagged, so I was just getting it across to my buddies who I always goof around and BS with, that doing this was not all fun and glamorous, but a lot of extra work, especially if you're unprepared for it! I thought it would be in the comfort of my home for a few hours of filming per day for 1 or 2 days at most and that would be it. But the shoots are all day affairs with lots of setting up involved with cameras and lighting, etc. Driving out to different locations and so on...! Not easy stuff!
I did hope to share my collection by doing the show as it sounded like something cool and I hope they showed some cool things from my collection, though I doubt they showed a majority of it. Again, I haven't even seen the show for myself yet. I don't like seeing myself on screen, so it won't be easy for me to watch, but I do hope they show lots of the toys which is the reason why I agreed to do the show to begin with.

That wasn't meant as a jab at ya. Just moreso a generalization, don't look to get your collection on TV because you never really know what the intent is. They made your wife look helpless and made you look like a self-centered ******* with mental issues, who'd rather spend time and thousands on your toys than with your family and kids. But miraculously, Elyse comes in and suddenly becomes your personal Jesus and makes you re-think your moral code, and your life choice, which is, of course, one huge crock of ****. But in all fairness, while you had the best of intentions and they had the worst, had you simply said "no thanks!" none of that would've happened which was my point. Sometimes the best of intentions and something that might look innocent, might be a set-up for flagrant exploitation. This was the case here.

Well, again, I haven't seen the show or the episode I was in, so I don't have much to comment on except for the few bonus scenes which I've seen online which I thought were funny. Being a collector for many years, I've had my collection seen and exposed several times, so doing another show wasn't a big deal to me in regards to the collection. I enjoy sharing what I have and what I love about collecting, so to keep it all hidden away all to myself to me would seem like more of a problem.
I think a lot of us collectors often dream of having a museum type set up for our collectibles to be displayed and admired. Doing this show seemed like yet another cool way to discuss my hobby and show some cool things to people out there who might not have a clue or especially to other fellow collectors that would appreciate it.
I certainly didn't do this do make an ass of myself and I doubt the other collectors did either, but then again, there are those "exceptions" out there that can make the hobby look bad. Once I understood that this was not a documentary style show but a "Reality Show Entertainment piece", then I knew I would be in the hands of the final editing process.
Anyhow, until I've seen the show for myself, I can't comment on things about it. I certainly hope I didn't come across as self centered with mental issues! Jeez!
In the end, I don't know if I would say we were exploited. They certainly had their own spin on things and it wasn't easy doing the shoot, but we did some cool things and had some fun along the way. We realized it was just "a show" after all. I just think the timing for us to do the show wasn't good, but they took care of us, compensated us, and actually did help me rethink my collecting habits and how to approach my collecting in the future.

I hear ya. Unfortunately, it looks like the goal of this show is to make collectors look like oddball hoarders with social issues. And they get to that through staging situations and using things out of context to make people feel uncomfortable (or at least look that way) for collecting toys. Not once have I seen Elyse try to help people reorganize their collections, but moreso, she tries time and again to get them to part with grails under the guise that they have some weird disorder. Because apparently selling little pieces of who you are makes you normal. :lol

Hey Emarae,

How was Elyse in person?? Cool chick? It seemed like you guys hit it off better than she did with other collectors?

You still have that tablet & digital software?

I like her! She's good looking in my opinion and I know I have some friends that think she's hot. She's a hard worker and she's tough! She dealt with a lot of my dusty old toys like a pro and helped lift some of my bins due to my bum foot. She is a collector herself and she collects certain vintage movie posters and toys. It was her show, so we often had to follow her lead!
I do still have the tablet and digital software. They offered me ZBrush, but I asked for Photoshop CS6 instead as I'm more familiar with that program and would most likely use it more than ZBrush.

Wow! I really need to watch this show! I haven't seen a single episode yet! Just bits and pieces online. But I hear you too, bro! Oh man..!

Marlo is the fkn man. Don't piss him off. He's my boy

That's right guys! You mess with me, you mess with Mr.EcKo! :lol

With how they made him look, he should brace himself then. :lecture

D-oh! :slap

Emarae,

Don't let your wife watch the episode. They kept the part in where you admit you spent $1,000 on the custom Willy Wonka. :lecture

:lol

What about the term ""model bashing?" Do you use that?

I can't speak for him, but model-bashing and kit-bashing have been hobby terms forever, particularly in prop building. Like you guys I've only rarely seen it used for 1:6 customizing. The show certainly made it seem like the standard name, though. :lol

I've always ever heard it referred to as kitbashing. Even in the UK. :dunno

No, I don't use the term "model bashing" in the hobby. I have no clue why they asked us to say this instead of "kit bashing" and I warned them that the community would raise some eye brows over this, but it might have to do with some weird TV legal issues that I didn't care to go into. So "model bashing" it was...! :dunno

At least you got a badass drawing tablet out of the whole thing. I want one of those so badly.

I got some good stuff out of the show, so it wasn't a complete waste of time. It was just hard to do the show when we did due to the timing and me not being physically 100% at the time. This was what I was trying to express in my quotes that were taken out of context with me BSing with my buddies. Anyhow, like I mentioned, I sold some stuff, got to meet some cool folks and old friends, got a great art software, they cleaned our house and helped organize my garage which was a mess for years, so it turned out cool for us.
