Russell wasn't even all that good when he played at LSU, though. That was an example of analysts and scouts hyping a guy up well beyond what his abilities warranted. LSU won then as they do now--with defense. QB didn't really matter very much so long as he didn't throw pick sixes. The other guys mentioned were very good to great players in college but busts in the pros. Not that I agree that SEC QBs are better than those of other conferences (I don't, even though I do agree that they have more of a challenge and encounter more difficulties becoming great in college against those great SEC defenses), but I don't think the Russell analogy can go very far.

Yeah the PAC 10 has had some horrible QBs. That guy Elway, he stunk. Green Bays current QB is worthless. As did Moon, Bledsoe, Aikman.

Found this interesteding tidbit when trying to find top level SEC QBs

Since 1978, SEC quarterbacks have been selected to 14 Pro Bowls. That's 13 for the Mannings, including 10 for Peyton, and one for everybody else.

He's no different than a lot of players selected. So the point holds true.

Did I say PAC 10 QBs were bad, or that SEC QBs were better?

He is different in the fact that he wasn't very good in college despite the hype. So. . .again, that makes him different than the others.

That's a pretty interesting stat. Didn't know that one either so I learned something new today. :lol

My main point was that I personally think Luck will be a fantastic pro QB. I think he has what it takes to do so but he may not where as I think the kid from Baylor won't make it as a QB. I never even started to bring the SEC into it. :dunno

SEC fans as a whole make talking football painful. Well, not Kain thank god he at least is open minded.

As my friend said every conference has had bust QB hell the SEC has the biggest of all time in Russell. :lol You're not gonna give anyone any credit that doesn't play in the SEC so any further discussion is pointless so I'm not gonna bother.

Defense wins championships. Isn't that how the saying goes?

Rogers wasn't hyped in college (at all) Warren Moon? Now that is a blast from the past! The point is hyped college quarterbacks usually don't do well in the NFL. They just don't. Montana wasn't hyped. But you can say Elway was hyped. On a side note,Wasn't Elway drafted by the colts originally? Brady wasn't hyped either. The SEC is a defensive and running conference. It has been for a while.

Don't lump me in with the SEC Zealots either.

I'm open minded enough to call a spade a spade.:lol

And for the record, I'm an LSU fan (and alumn), not an SEC fan.

For example: if the MNC game would have been OSU vs Bama, I would be cheering for the Cowboys.

I'd be curious to know how many of the SEC zealots are actually Ole Miss, Vandy, Tenn, etc fans.:rotfl

Just as some may be irrationally supportive of the SEC, some are surely exhibiting some irrational anti-SEC sentiment due to jealousy and sour grapes. Works both ways, so I wouldn't be so quick to throw stones.

Not jealous at all nor have sour grapes here.
