Well the fact that they purport to reward "integrity" but gave the award to Cam Newton should tell you that they aren't sticklers for the details of that Mission Statement.

I think the integrity part was lost years ago. It become to big and to many voters to in force that. Not to mention is pretty much be shown in years where there was not a huge clear cut winner regions vote for their own player. So this year both South and Southwest SEC territory and Texas territory were pretty much sweeps, the rest were fairly close. It wouldn't have changed the results but is a great way to show that integrity is not something the voters put first.

True. He may one day end up having to vacate that Heisman ala Reggie Bush.

Also a good point. There are something like 900 voters now, most of them regional sports writers. That is insane.

Also, I'm sure Manti is okay with not winning the Heisman. Not just because Manziel was fully deserving. And not just because we have a shot at the National Title. There's also this:

There were several other national player awards and he won 8 of the damn things (a record). :google

I'm sure he'll have a better NFL career than manziel...have fun with that heisman curse :wave

So what you guys are saying is that you're cool with the Heisman continuing to be mainly a stats-driven award. Got it.

That's cool. I just personally disagree. That kind of approach gave us winners like Ty Detmer and Gino Toretta. Extreme examples, yes, but still... not what the Trust's own Mission Statement preports itself to be.

I'm also not comparing Manziel to someone like Toretta. I think he's much more deserving. But not because of stats & numbers.

It's supposed to go to the best player in college football in that particular season. Everyone there is there because of their stats, including Teo. How someone pans out doesn't matter.

It probably just means more push-ups during practice or something.

Or maybe they actually made him attend class. :p

But they immediately said that the game officials missed it and it should've been a flag. And the SEC suspended 2 other players this season for lesser hits. They're not even attempting to feign transparency on this one.

It's not much different than tOSU not suspending Pryor and the others for the Rose Bowl a couple of years ago. The one difference between the two situations is that tOSU players committed NCAA violations whereas the Bama situation is an on the field issue.

So I guess we can blame tOSU for setting the precedent, lol.

If he plays or doesn't play it won't affect the outcome, he isn't a massive defensive force or anything. I think they should sit him out half of the game just for the PC'ness of it all. I don't think there was anything wrong with the hit though (it was a bit high, but c'mon he's a huge fat guy); a similar type hit on every kick off of most any game. Next time Murray, lay on the ground. Not saying there shouldn't have been a flag on the play though, it was unnecessary roughness, no doubt.
