I just had a thought though, it was quite un-Vader to let this guy live, seems to me if the guy says an escape pod was launched and this guy just let it go after they had to run Tantive IV down, it's time for some choke action, hell he choked guys for less, one guy talks back to him and gets it.

I guess he didn't have free reign to start summarily offing guys until after Tarkin was dead because once he was gone Vader started choking the life out guys like there was no tomorrow.

Yeah, I think it is safe to say that once Tarkin was out of the way, Vader usurped whatever authority Tarkin had as his own. Very sith-like, nez pa? :lol

True, not sure if it's something they'd touch upon, but I wonder if the live-action TV series would discuss at all the rankings with Tarkin and Vader. Maybe it was just because Lucas was just starting the series out and didn't want Vader to be in charge ever in the films, but clearly he follows Tarkin's lead.

I always found it strange that Vader took such a huge leap in authority from ANH to ESB. He doesn't come across as being the number 2 guy behind Tarkin with the officer's in that briefing room scene being so dismissive of him. He's more of a lackey and doesn't command the respect in ANH that he does in the later films. By the time we get to ESB, everyone is scared to death of him and is clearly second only to the Emperor.

I think I prefer the look of the sculpted hat.

And I can't think of a single character in ESB that would have had the authority to shout: "Vader--release him!!!" The dynamic between Vader and Tarkin was something interesting that we really didn't get in the two subsequent films.

But wasn't the super star destroyer presented to Vader after the events of A New Hope? If so, then he was effectively in charge of his own ship and the Imperial officers probably needed to treat him accordingly. Ozzel had some of the same contemptuous attitude towards Vader that Motti showed in ANH, but with Vader now running around as the big dog on his own ship without Tarkin holding his leash, Ozzel didn't last long.

True, but don't forget the Imperial officer that commanded the Star Destroyer that lost the Falcon in the asteroid field, the guy flew over to Vader's ship and got chocked to death, so the fear was not contained to just Vader's vessel. The way the character is, I'd guess when the first Death Star was destroyed, Palpatine would see the Imperials ill fit to be in charge and looked to Vader as the only one he could count on, and in giving Vader free reign, allowed him to demonstrate his power and instill fear through action and word of mouth throughout the Empire.

Yeah, in ANH Palpatine was obviously changing the way he ran the Empire with the dissolution the Senate. With Tarkin gone and all remnants of the Old Republic swept away, plus a growing Rebellion to deal with, I guess Palps decided to let Vader off his leash and cut out the red tape.

I posted this on Mediwoeld also. People Agreed with me, figured If they can see my point, we can too :)
Why a nobody like Praji? I can think of a few reasons
1) He's a test figure. ( do we have the uniform right, did we miss anything, etc..)
2) People will be more forgiving of reeors on a background guy. Imagine the uproar if this was Tarkin, And the sculpt was bad.
3) He's an imperial officer, and a tier 3 background guy. AND he already sold out. Illum Manface was around for a WHILE, and she's a tier one. What does all this amount to?

Market Research. He sold, and he sold well. Regardless of potential cancelations, they have good examples of how well a more...popular officer will sell.

Like the Jedi, Most Parts of his uniform can be recycled, Once perfected. I have no doubt that we will see Tarkin and Piett, And possibly Even Thrawn before too much longer now

God damn marketing!!:lol

Hey, I'll be honest, If I was running the company, I'd probobly have done the exact same thing.

Moving on though, Praji Actualy is not choked by vader afterwords. Check out his wookiepedia entry.

I thoink you're correct, Vader is more or less given free reign after Tarkin is killed. Tarkin was a Grand moff, Probobly the biggest Grand moff. He more or Less RAN the entire imperial army.

The officers in the briefing room knew Tarkin would keep a relative short leash on Vader so they didn't have to worry about him. Vader choked that one guy for a brief time, but Tarkin made Vader let him go. When ESB rolled around there was no Tarkin so he choked whoever he wanted to death. At that point the officers had to be worried.

If the Tantive invasion had happened after Tarkin was out of the picture, Praji still would have lived. (And for the same reason that Piett was able to.)

Praji found the plans. He brought Vader what he wanted. No one on the ship could do it, but he put 2 & 2 together when the pod jettisoned, and for all intents and purposes, empty. If he had just blown it off as a short circuit, I'm pretty sure he'd be toast. And with Tarkin's approval.

But he didn't. I'd guess he lived. Until they parked their star destroyer in the garage at the Death Star. :acme

I actually just read through all 66 pages of this. Un****ing real. I'm dumbstruck that I had anything to say when it was over. What's more, after all 66 pages, I'm on the waitlist. I never wanted military figures (even armored), I never knew the character's name until I saw the order page, I laughed myself stupid that it wasn't Vader, and then I didn't give the figure a second thought. Now I'm fully intending to pay $67 for him, and I'm thinking about atleast two of the Endor troopers. And stormtroopers. And all. This figure may well have turned me borderline completist for this line. How 'bout them apples?

I still think the figure looks great. It just wasn't for me so I didn't oder it. No big deal.

I ordered it. I love that we finally got an Imperial Officer. Tarkin and a bunch of known officers are no brainers so wasn't upset about the announcement. What I think is funny is that 3000 of this "little known character' came and went is absolutely no problems.

I'm guessing a large part of him selling out is customizers, but that would seem odd because that's a hefty price to pay just for custom pieces.

Have a lot here said they were using him for custom parts? Maybe I missed that. Although with a 2 piece limit I could see people getting two and on one of them swapping out the heads... 2 imperial officers are alway better than two.

Luckily for us they do keep us very informed; newsletters, events and what not. But because collectors don't know when a figure they want is coming they feel that their rights are being violated?!? How self-absorbed and ridiculous is that?

Just because Sideshow doesn't answer to the beckon call of SW fans doesn't mean they are doing anything wrong

Sorry this is 2 days and a million posts later, but I'll concur that SSC doesn't owe the customers explanations, but IMO, they owe it to themselves to mind what a vocal (albeit minority of) fan base is saying.

If SW customers whine and whine for Vader, wouldn't you agree making those customers happy is of interest to the company?

To say the company should just do what they want is risking alienating the fan base. And like it or not, the people who collect SSC other than SW product still better worry about what the SW fan base thinks because they can sink your favorite company so swiftly your head would swivel.
