I heard good things about Happy Ending, need to watch it sometime.

Couple of weeks back executive producers Neil Goldman and Garrett Donovan left the show for a new deal at 20th Century Fox. And today writer Chris McKenna (who wrote my favourite episode Remedial Chaos Theory and many other episodes) announced on Twitter he is also leaving the show.

It is really good. Especially because every promo piece I saw for it made the show look terrible. But it's got a Community irreverence vibe, with a lot of 30 Rock's "throw 80 jokes out there, 60 will land" tactics.

But yeah, in the top 5 current comedies for me.

Loved the season finale montage at the end. That felt almost like a series finale, with Pierce coming along and everything. Chang+Rival principal= some good tv.

It was written as the series finale.

Probably explains why all the major creative people on the show are leaving. They said what they wanted to say in the show and found new jobs and are moving on, the show only got renewed last week, their job search probably started long before that.

Harmon being unceremoniously dumped is a bad thing for the show. He's obviously gone head to head with the network and studio before to get his vision on the screen. And what resulted was a great, but culty show.

With it moving to Fridays and given only a 13 episode order, it's obvious NBC was trying to kill it anyway.

Happy Endings is a very similar show with quirky characters and meta-jokes. I'll probably give the new Community a chance.

Interesting things happen when the show runner goes public with Chevy Chase's voicemail.

Honestly, I think that's a ____ move on his part. You don't air your dirty laundry in public. That actually made me think less of Harmon than of Chase.

Yeah, after hearing the tapes and hearing him laugh and stuff... I don't feel bad for him at all. He got what was coming to him, imo.

Hopefully this new team can make Chevy's character better/funnier.

Sorry, but Harmon is and was the soul of this show. It will rely on cheap big bang theory type humor without him. I think the outcry from fans and the internet only proves that Harmon was essential to Community. I'm a HUGE fan of the show, and that kind of sentiment worries me that people will openly accept "fauxmunity." At this point I hope it's canceled. Moved to the friday slot? Dan fired? I mean the writers will do what they can, but if I were them I wouldn't even sign on for another season out of respect to Dan.

I would have rather seen Chevy gone than him.

I finally watched the final episodes of Community and then found out about Dan Harmon being fired. Terrible news, obviously. The same thing happened to Gilmore Girls (yeah I watched Gilmore Girls and LOVED it! Wanna make something of it?!?) where they fired the showrunner and still had a full season after that and it was absolutely terrible. It was excrutiatingly bad.

However, having found out that the showrunners from Happy Endings are taking over gives me a little bit of hope. Like others have said, Happy Endings is kinda similar in its irreverent tone, so it could conceivably be a good fit. But what does that mean for Happy Endings? Are they going to run both shows?

Yeah, the final episode was such a final episode that I really wish they would have just ended the show.

Kinda sad that we will have a half-assed final season now that will probably end worse than what we've already seen.

The cast was already signed - they don't have a choice.

Interesting article on what Sony/NBC are asking the cast to say:

Did Lorelai and Luke end up together? What about Rory? Did she stop being a stuckup _____ and dump that rich guy and make up with Lorelai? :panic:

Yes and yes, on the very last episode (although she had reconciled with Lorelai a while back). But damn, that whole season was such a chore to watch.

Happy Endings IS a good show. I enjoy it. I think the cast is one of the funniest on TV (besides Community of course).

Today it was announced that Megan Ganz has signed for season 4, the great writer behind Cooperative Calligraphy, Documentary Filmmaking Redux and the Law and Order Episode.
