What the heck is "Cool Toy Review"? Crappy toy sites spawn way too frequently.

Actually they've been pretty good so far, better then some of the more popular toy news sites like Figures.com. I really like the archive feature, although I wish they'd point out the articulation in all their reviews.

"The flags of discontent... keep 'em flying." :monkey3 :monkey3 :monkey3

Make sure YOUR 3,000th post is in the Ape thread as well, Ironman! :monkey3 :monkey3 :monkey3

Got my 10 entries in! I was never really into the Apes, but these photo archive pic/contest have really made me want to get some figures. Winning one or two would definately help with that. :D

dude, trust me (and everyone else here), POTA is one of the coolest lines SSC has ever produced. Get one and you'll want them all.

Well you're pics are certainly making me consider getting them. Great as always If I win one I'm sure I'll cave on others. I do have a $25 gift card coming from the Endor Bundle so it might go to an Ape.

PS Dave, just an FYI last time I looked at Caesar's page it says he was limited to 400, but that is just the exclusive version with the poster not the regular.

I second the motion! :monkey5 :monkey5 :monkey5

In fact, The Planet of the Apes is the ONLY Sideshow line that I've been a completist for! I also bought mulitples for customizing... but not as much as Stickman and Ironman :monkey2

I too have just finished the final ballot in the Ape Contest... and it ends with the Caesar entry... HAIL TO THE KING!!! :D

I was looking over the entry and I noticed that there is a discrepancy in the archive entry. The regular version of Caesar had a edition size of 2500 not 400... which was the edition size of the exclusive version of Caesar with the Armando Circus poster replica. For some reason, on the Planet of the Apes section of the Sideshow website there is only a link to the figure and it's the exclusive version and not the regular version. Only by using the site search engine will the link pop up. Here is the link to the regular version:

Thanks Dave for running the contest... it's been fun!

Are you planning on adding any more to the archive?

Might I suggest the Exclusive Dr. Zaius... who for some ridiculous reason has YET to sell out his 500 edition size after being on sale for nearly THREE years!!! :monkey4 :monkey4 :monkey4

it's been fun to do. While I've always had my Apes displayed, shooting them really started by blood boiling on finishing up the collection. I have Forbidden Zone Taylor, Exclusive Zaius, and Exclusive Brent on the way. Now just to get the rest of the exclusives...

As I've said before, anyone who has any extra exclusives should drop me a line. I really want to finish the POTA section before moving on to the next SSC section (either Buffy or X-Files)

Hey, X-Files on the other hand was a great line I collected from the start. Can't wait to see those pics (especially CSM and Krycek!).

I may get Zaius, but right now I'm leaning toward the Mutant Leader. I just like that "burn victim" look to them. Perhaps I'd get the doc if I won the Jailor. And vice versa if I win Ursus. I don't know what I'd get if I don't win anything though. The more I look at this line, the more I can't understand why it didn't sell better. My only guess is too many Taylors and Brents. $50 for a nearly naked Slave Brent? That was a HUGE mistake!

Yeah, slave Brent was hard to swallow for $50. And Taylor after Taylor flooding the line didn't help either. Of course $ide$how doesn't take that into account when saying that the line didn't sell. They killed the line, it wasn't that it didn't sell. Planet of the Apes stands as one of, if not THE best licensed lines despite:
-Too many Taylors
-Forbidden Zone Taylor having a crisp/clean uni
-the gorilla soldier being too generic
-Brent... well, 'nuff said
-Usrus helmet being way undersized and his pistol being on the wrong side
-Ursus bearing little to no resemblence to the actual character
-exclusives being reduced to miniscule pieces of paper
<sigh> so, the campaign continues. With or without $$C the line will endure.

BTW, if anyone happens to have an extra Forbidden Zone Taylor, he's the ONLY one that eluded me in the series. :monkey2

Another problem with the line (as Creecher pointed out years ago) was the rate of release. I don't think Sideshow has EVER rolled out a line as quickly as the POTA line. They started with 5 figures announced (Dr. Zaius, Cornelius, Zira, Gorilla Enforcer and Astronaut Taylor) and in a couple of months there were 3 variants announced (Forbidden Zone Dr. Zaius, Ape Marauder, and Forbidden Zone Taylor) swelling the total to 8 figures in a short span of time. I think this fact overwhelmed the average collector. If Sideshow allowed the line to grow slowly, it could have gained some momentum over time. Instead they were at saturation point at the get go.

Also, even though SIdeshow did flood the market with Taylors, they never made the right Taylor. I think the line would more successful if they would have made a bearded slave Taylor on the outset rather than the barely seen on screem clean shaven astronaut version. Just my opinion. :monkey3 :monkey3 :monkey3

Even their precious Star Wars line didn't flood the market like this. :monkey2 :monkey2 :monkey2

Yes, I couldn't keep up with all of them so I had to get the exclusives and have to wait on the others. I'm still missing both Brents, regular Dr. Zaius, regular Mutant, Regular Taylor Astronaut, and Beneath Taylor.
I'm complaining about the same thing on the HT Aliens figures, way too many all at once. I also agree about Bearded Taylor, should've not been an exclusive.
Good luck to all in this contest! I have the two figures offered but I'm more then willing to trade them for others I don't have.
