Super Freak
I finished the season. I don't know how I felt about the last few.
I adored the Punisher stuff, but I feel like they crammed a bit too much in with The Hand. They could've easily given a season to each of those plots. They're both excellent stories, and they're both important to the Daredevil mythos, but I feel like they clashed, thematically. Frank's story has such a basis in a very grounded set of circumstances and a very real sense of loss, anger, and revenge. I don't want to say it loses its impact, because nothing can take away from how great Bernthal's performance was throughout the season, but I do feel like it feels very out of place watching Frank gun down members of an immortal Ninja clan from across the way. Seeing him in that shed, I didn't want that to be the last I saw of him this season, but, ultimately, I feel like it might have been a better choice, creatively, for his story to stray from Matt's before it did.
The whole "see you around, Red" thing, and then burning the house down felt kind of heavy handed. Especially when you already got the perfect emphasis on "Frank" being dead when he ignored Karen's pleas and killed the General, which is another thing I'm unsure of. A gangland shooting's one thing, cops and politicians covering their ***** after a sting goes wrong and gets civilians killed is another, but conspiracies involving guys Frank served with and a secret drug running operation is some very shaky ground to end his origin on. Especially after the near flawless execution of his characterization and story from, I would say his first appearance to when he left the prison.
I'm also still not big on Castle's Punisher look quite yet. I'd prefer the T-shirt or a more traditional Kevlar approach. I know this is going to sound ridiculously petty and, well, ridiculous, but I also feel like his hairstyle clashes with the look, as well. Ex-military man Frank Castle walking around in street clothes gunning people down with the high and tight is one thing, but it doesn't look that great with the trench coat and the vest. Plus, I think Bernthal would look damn good with comic Frank's slicked back look.
