Re: DarkArtist's Creations of DOOM!

I was really pleased with the factory paints, but the eyes on your repaint are fantastic. Another figure ruined for me by Josh.:D

Re: DarkArtist's Creations of DOOM!

Hey is that the Pampered Chef Stone Pizza cooker thingy?

I've got a ton of that stuff!! Man it cooks everything great.

Sorry, back to your regular scheduled program.

Re: DarkArtist's Creations of DOOM!

DA, did you resew the pocket(s) on? They look a closer together (and accurate) than others.

Nope, but the water treatment really helped them look not so far apart. I think it's all about the clothing drying on the body that helps give it weight that really isn't there normally.

Yeah, we use that stone for damn near anything. It works great. :rock

:rotfl Thanks man. Bespin Luke is something I have gone over and over in my head so I was really prepared for this repaint/rework. Glad to know that it was worth it in the long run. I'm really floored by so much positive response on this one.

Re: DarkArtist's Creations of DOOM!

Also, tonight... I worked my butt off and can say that my Pix Faramir is hours away from completion. Also repainted the regular Frankenstein figure, converted him into an SSE version.

Re: DarkArtist's Creations of DOOM!

Damn, awesome work DA, I freaking love that Frankensteins Monster!!

Not only is your paintwork exquisite, but you also seem to churn them out at an insane rate :rock :rock

Re: DarkArtist's Creations of DOOM!

Beautiful Frankenstein, Josh! I love what you did. Really suits your style too.

I have one, and dyed the coat black, but never repainted him because I had this great Billiken Frankenstein model I loved, but eventually sold :monkey2 and regreat selling....but I never tried to repaint him like I wanted to.
Your's really captures the movie style. Love the hair and the dark contrasts between that and his skin. Really nice moves man!

Just for the record, I met Karloff's daughter at the Mad Model Party II in L.A. in 1995 (sponsored by early Sideshow I might add!) and got to tell her how much her dad's performances meant to me. I had just painted my Billiken kit and was full of the Karloff mystique. He was a great actor, and this figure is really nice in my opinion. It does need work, as it is one of SS first 12" figures, and again, your repaint is really evocative and haunting and improves the figure immeasurably.

Maybe one day, I will dig mine out and repaint him once more. Your figure compells that old feeling.

Great work!!! :rock

Re: DarkArtist's Creations of DOOM!

Bes Luke Totally Rocks, Josh! BIG TIME! As does EVERYTHING else. Dude, you are knocking these outa the park.

I can't wait to see what you do with my Bes Luke and Hasblo Yoda with Backpack too! Now I'll have both a Dagobah AND FB Luke, yes! :rock :D

Re: DarkArtist's Creations of DOOM!

Thanks a bunch Les, and nice to hear your take on this subject. Karloff did such a great job in the first two films, bringing so much emotion to a (until the second film) non speaking role. And once he did Bride, he made you feel even MORE for the Monster. Really was one of the most amazing performances I have ever seen from any actor. I think that is why The Monster is so timeless, not to mention Jack Pierce and his great makeup, or James Whale's direction. The stars really aligned on those two films.

That's great to hear about your experience meeting his daughter, and I hope you do get to paint this figure. It was really a lot of fun. The sculpt really gave and the contrast worked fantastically. Painting the forehead alone made me giddy. I loved it!

I will be doing the same to the Phantom and Dracula when I get them. So be on the lookout for it. :D

Can you tell me more about this, or post a link? Is there anything more to it than just hanging the clothes on the figure wet to get a proper drape?

Love the latest repaints! I'm reluctant to start modifying my Sideshow figures, as that's a rabbit hole I'm not sure I should go down...

Stunning Josh, simply stunning, I'd love to photograph this one for you some day, there's just so much potential for powerful images with the down and out look of bruising and tattering you've captured there. If I could afford it I'd have like 5 Lukes to catch the various stages from first arriving at Dagobah to "that's not true, that IMPOSSIBLE". Funny, now it's making me think of Liar Liar with Jim Carey, "What the hell are you doing?" "I'm kicking my ass, do you mind!" :lol

Well, I'm already thinking of the figs I want to be sending you here shortly. Just need some great shots for a portfolio if I can actually attend SDCC here next year. Frank, Bond and Bespin Luke are a 100% go though. I know you will make them pop. :rock

Which Bond is that, the bloody one? Clean or bloody works, but again like Luke, beaten and bruised makes things more interesting :)

Oh it will be the Bloody one. The clean was for someone else, my personal version is the battered Bond. I love Battle Damage too much, my whole collection is full of it. :lol

Here are pics of Pix Faramir and Asajj with touched up lips, pre gloss anyway...

Great work on Faramir Josh, those eyes have a lot of life in them.

Re: DarkArtist's Creations of DOOM!

Hey Josh, figured I'd share this with you here since I know you check here often. I saw your comment about dying your HT Jack Sparrow coat, I'd advise against it, someone else tried it and it runied the material, the effect wasn't that great at all. I'd love to see HT Jack head with is eyes redone, that's the major flaw I see in the HT head and a little touch up would go a long way for bringing out the character.

Thanks Pix! I was just soooo happy to be done with him. Faramir is a tough character to paint. That sculpt just gave me Hell. But I attacked him while I was on a roll to be sure to do my best and I think I did. Now, to get some money and ship this baby out to you! :rock

And Sean, thanks for the tip... I will leave it alone then. Don't want to ruin the coat. I think that the skin tone is mostly there, I will touch up, redo the eyes and weather the outfit. Should be a pretty quick job actually, I might do that tonight.
