Re: DarkArtist's Creations of DOOM!

I understand Josh. I wanted to go to the Academy of Art University here in SF when I got out, but the tution alone is like $15K a year. Then add on like $5K for a new high-end digital camera and lenses, then put a new laptop on top of that. And then unless I can work to pay for a place to stay, I would probably have to pay the $13K a year boarding fee. So that would have been well over $100K to get my BA in photography. I would have loved to go, but there is no way that I really could.

I hate rich kids! :emperor

Same here... My parents just filed bankruptcy, lost their home and business... So no help there. But schools seem to think we all have trust funds. Bastards.

And Josh, thanks man... I'm glad to be back anyway, maybe this break of sorts was a good refresher to get my artistic desires back on track. :rock

No S#it!
Sorry of your woes Josh. Keep your chin up. And if I were you, keep your eye on the Art School ball. I did at your age, and am glad I did. Have you looked at SCAD yet? Just a thought.

Re: DarkArtist's Creations of DOOM!

Josh,
Paint your way out Bro. And do your DA Custom Figs, until something comes along. Anyway, sounds like your plan. Good Luck.

I hope so. I can't wait to send you a ton of stuff.

Re: DarkArtist's Creations of DOOM!

Man sorry to hear your plans didn't work out (although a little hard for me to be sad you're not back in the military with the way things are these days). But I know the feeling of being in limbo and watching money get tighter and tighter... the job market is real ^^^^ right now.

About financial aid... typically as long as you are over 24 its based on your income (would include your wife) but has nothing to do with parents. I can't imagine you not being eligible. I had a friend in graduate school who had the GI Bill and she would also get money to cover the remainder of tuition and have some left over to use for expenses.

The FAFSA is online and is a lot easier to use than it was 10 or 12 years ago when I started school :monkey2 And if you have problems or questions hit me up, I've gone though it and my wife used to be a financial Aid counselor.

Good luck bro, and don't let this stuff get you down... it is temporary. But things like your marriage, friends and family are there for the long haul :rock

Re: DarkArtist's Creations of DOOM!

Yeah, check out the financial aide stuff and see how that can help if you haven't. Its what I used to pay for my college.

Re: DarkArtist's Creations of DOOM!

Sorry to hear about your situations Josh. Are you sure they didn't want you back because you saw a shrink, or did they see the stuff you paint? :lol

Everybody is a little crazy I always say,

BTW, My Joker is in the mail to you, so that should keep you busy for bit. :D

Perhaps look around the classifieds to see if anybody needs a painter or something (not house painting, but the stuff you are already doing). You definately have skills outside painting though. I'm sure if you look around, somebody could use a Dark Artist for something.

Re: DarkArtist's Creations of DOOM!

Thank you so much Les... I'm really so lucky to be able to do this many Jokers, and to see what you have done with it. It's been a lovely work in progress, making each new head an experiment in and of itself. That recent reference pic really helped too, gave me much to work with. :rock

(p.s) I just got back from work, 8 hours at the theater... and Good GOD are my feet hurting. I was very stupid and wore boots. It's very painful. :monkey2

First rule... Comfort shoes, never for style. ;)

Josh has done an astounding job with this! HT will have to do a lot to top it! :rock

They will never do it ! :lol

Thanks a bunch guys, I can't tell you how much I appreciate it. :rock

I do have some news.... A few months back when I announced my "retirement", I had outside motives that I did not reveal. I was in contact with my local Navy recruiter and was attempting a return to the fold, so to speak. I was going to go back to active duty and get my life back on track...

It, however, did not come to pass. I was in limbo for a while there, made a few trips to Tampa for paperwork and such. But, it turns out that since I went to a psychiatrist while I was still in the Navy and once after I got out, that they don't want to risk taking me back. I guess I'm too much of a head case. :lol

So, now I am in a hard spot. I'm working a minimum wage job, half of what I was making at my previous job, and it's a PT job, they don't have FT available. None of my other applications have proven fruitful, so no chance of a second PT job. And to make it even more fun, I can't go back to school yet because I only get one deferment per calendar year... :banghead

So, it is in my best interest to cancel my repainting "retirement" and become available again. I'm almost caught up on back logged work now anyway. So, now you guys know the whole story....

Anyone need anything, just let me know.. I'm VERY available now. :lol

Bro, these things happen for a reason. You will ovecome and we will help support you as best we can by requesting work ! lol. We promise !

Keep the faith, a better tomorrow will come.

Re: DarkArtist's Creations of DOOM!

Josh I know the feeling. When I was your age I was trying everything I could do make cash artistically. I painted murals, flames and such on cars, I airbrushed t-shirts and even drew flash for tattoos. Eventually stuff came along that paid the bills as it will for you. You're talented, smart and ambitious, so you will get on your feet.

Meanwhile I will be more than happy to send you some heads for a paintjob.

Re: DarkArtist's Creations of DOOM!

hang in there buddy:duff thing will eventually fall into place. we all hit a troubled patch once in a while. that being said ill pm you about some paint work if you'd like. good luck my friend.

Ouch. I can certainly relate to being in tough spots like this, and it is really hard to know what to do, where to go, and how to get there.

I do know that you're tremendously talented and, perhaps more importantly, passionate about your art, and that you will find a way. It may be hell to get there, but you'll get there eventually.

Everything works out in the end, and if it hasn't worked out, it's not the end.

Re: DarkArtist's Creations of DOOM!

I've found when life ^^^^s on me hard, a way out is always presented to me. It's just a matter of staying positive in order to see the way out, and to take the initiative to follow it.

That's the one thing that has kept me from being an atheist. There are too many small miracles that happen when life throws me through the ringer that I refuse to believe them to be a series of coincidences. I'm by no ways a religious man, but when I continually get pulled out of the fire by small miracles, it really makes me think.

Why am I rambling like this? I dunno. Just stay positive, and I hope good things will come to you.

Re: DarkArtist's Creations of DOOM!

Just wanted to lend my words of support as well, Josh. I sincerely hope everything works out for you and that you can eventually do what makes you happy while getting paid for it. If you need some extra cash I've got a couple figures I'd be glad to send you for re-paints. Just let me know when you're ready to get back in the saddle and take them on. I'm sure you'll have a ton of other people sending you stuff too as everyone knows how talented you are and will probably want to help you out financially. Keep your head up, bro.

Re: DarkArtist's Creations of DOOM!

Start at a junior college first if you have to. Just because you pay through the roof for school doesn't make it the best. I went to a local university for teaching and was able to make if without loans. I had originally planned on going somewhere much more expensive and would have had at least $80,000 in loans to pay back. In either case, I would be making the same amount no matter the name of the university on the degree. Just my 2 cents.

Re: DarkArtist's Creations of DOOM!

Thanks for all of the continuing support guys... I know I can be a ball O drama sometimes. :lol

Anyway, tonight I finished another Joker head and did some work on Anguish. Also trying to get somewhere on a Myers sculpt and this other Buffy zombie. So it was a busy night. Here are some Joker shots and a neat comparison.

Prototype on the right, newer ones from there to the left... Fun to see progress. :D
