Academics live in their own little worlds where their personal philosophies and methods are the only things that make sense to them.

At the same time they are deeply insecure, so anything that challenges their one-sided and shallow perspectives is perceived by them as a threat. They meet that threat with anger and intolerance. That's why so many of them come off so arrogant, when in fact they are anything but.

They are delicate little flowers expecting the world to fit inside their narrow vision of life. When it doesn't, they piss and moan and try to take it out on the nearest student/author/personality/etc. You know, whoever doesn't fit inside the elitist packaging they value so highly...

So anyway, where's my Han..?

Obviously, this can't apply to everyone, but MAN, it sure fits a lot I've known over the years!

Assigned seating in college is so funny... especially since after the first week 95% of students sit in the same chair every time

BTW, if you want to be a pain you could always check into whether or not the professor broke any rules. Usually unless its a university policy professors can't make you take of hats, sit in assigned seats, etc.

Although, probably best to let it go and not let it affect the rest of the semester; your education is more important than a ********* teacher

Of course not. And some are like you say, but many (even if not most) are not.

And galactiboy is right. Profs often assign rules that are actually not University policy, and even something that seems really obvious like checking attendance may not be "allowed" by your school's policy (though it is easy for an instructor to get around this one by providing pop quizzes, by grading you on "class participation," etc.). However, you certainly want to be careful for the fights you pick, since this guy will be grading your papers and exams.

I got into an argument with my Nazi teacher today, so it really spoiled my good vibe. He is a math teacher with strict rules about hats in class, and even assigned us seats. Today the tables were in the wrong spots, but I sat in my proper seat.. but he got confused and started berating me over it. I tried to explain myself... but we ended up going back and forth because he refused to listen to me at all. Made me feel like a complete idiot in front of the entire class... freakin prick.

BUT... that soured my mood a bit. So I will try and do some more work tonight after my other class, when I feel a little better.

I think the media has proven over the past ten years or so that college professors and scientists are some of the dumbest people alive----as in they're completely void of common sense.

I heard two days ago that now scientists believe that humans share a common ancestor with kangaroos as well! (personally, I'm still holding out for the shark theory. Sharks are cool...huh-huh....huh....)

Thanks guys, the hat thing I didn't mind as much... just because the military had me so used to following rules like that..

But the assigned seats was a bit much, I mean... we are paying to take that class, WTF does it matter where the hell we sit. He's just lucky he got me on a decent day, but even then I wanted to stab him in the neck.

Assigned seats in college??!?!?! Last time I had assigned seating was high school. In college I always sat in the back so I could get nap time in.

I'm guessing it isn't ego, but paranoia over possible cheating. If friends can't sit next to each other, cheating is less likely to take place.

I had one class as an undergrad where the prof. just left the room during exams. He told us that he would rely on us to "self-police," and let him know if someone else were cheating. It worked well, but we were a small class, and that might not work with every group of students.
