Re: DarkArtist's Creations of DOOM!

Thanks Chase!! :lol

Supes is always fun to paint.... Glad I got another swing at it. Now if I could only snag a Clark to paint. :D

Very well done, DA !

Somehow this Supe repaint has Figuremaster Les feel in him. I can see you have learned a lot from Les :D

Thanks for that KG! Yes, Les has taught me sooo much in just those 2 days we had... I owe a lot of my recent success to his teachings and his willingness to let me in on those trade secrets. I'll never forget that....

Re: DarkArtist's Creations of DOOM!

Just awesome dude! You could tell last night that it was spectacular, but again that natural light just highlights what an amazing job your paint apps do to bring out the sculpt!

:rock :rock :rock :rock :rock :rock :rock :rock :rock :rock

I only wish there could have been a Medieval Kurgan from Sideshow to receive your amazing treatment... oh well, one can dream.

That was truly cool! :D
But hey, you have already put your own slant into it.
That look on Supe's face, is original dude. Likin' it!
Different. Kinda, intent! Cool! :rock

Thanks Les... :bow

I really wanted that look when he delivered that line to Lex...

"I see a man's sick joke...."

He looked like he was about ready to knock Lex's head off, intent but still restrained. Of course he was just about to be punched down some stairs and beaten badly... but he didn't know that. :lol

Re: DarkArtist's Creations of DOOM!

Well, it's time I let everyone in on this months biggest failure... my only one since Qui-Gon Ginn... and ironically from the same film. Darth Maul.

I thought I could really do the body tats and be ok... boy was I ever wrong. The body is all black and my mind can't seem to paint in reverse, so I attempted to paint the body all red and do the black design over the top of that. Well, in theory it worked fine... but there were complications anyhow.

I clearcoated the hell out of the body after painting and yet still it scratches and ruins my work. I tried to just be careful and still... scratches everywhere... So I decided to just touch up the face, add a little depth here and there and redo the eyes.... The body is just too much trouble to have to deal with and I don't think the reward will be all that spectacular anyway. At least not enough to go crazy over.... :banghead

I took a few pics moments ago... my "pre-show" pics as I like to call them... not very focused and very very dark... but I hate waiting...:lol

Re: DarkArtist's Creations of DOOM!

Damn, bummer about the tats... I was looking forward to see what would happen. But I can imagine how trying it would be, especially if you work kept getting scratched!

Either way, what you've done to the face still looks good :D

Re: DarkArtist's Creations of DOOM!

Damn dude! :monkey2
I had high hopes for that one for you.
You had him going too! I saw him! He was looking good man!

Sorry that didn't work.
I sure don't understand the scratches part though. Bad day.
It will work. Don't give up on it!
Try try again man! :maul

Here's to your attempt at any rate! :duff

Re: DarkArtist's Creations of DOOM!

I know it's humbling, Josh, but I'm sure you learned a lot of great things in the attempt. In any case, your work on Maul's face is great! I appreciate you sharing your "mis-steps" as readily as your numerous successes. I'm not convinced for a moment that you've fully given up on him, though. I have a feeling we'll see this project rear up again. :duff

Re: DarkArtist's Creations of DOOM!

Thanks guys.... Yeah, this one was the toughest challenge I have yet faced.... And maybe if I can get a really nice bocy down the line I might attempt a retackle at this. I am happy with the face, even though I could not do the "looking up through the lids" on him... I tried... but this was the most menacing I could make him. Still looks like the most Placid and happy Maul I have ever seen... :lol

Re: DarkArtist's Creations of DOOM!

Josh, if I may be so bold to present a possible choice for Maul. I had mentioned in my customs thread that I had done up Metamorpho in a rather unorthodox manner. This may work for Maul as well but you would need to switch the body out for a Caucasion body. Then, using Sharpie color markers repaint the entire tattoo scheme. I'm sure it would be tougher than what I did but he doesn't scratch or scrape all that easily and I'm sure if clearcoted it would be even tougher. Just a thought my friend.
This is Metamorpho, everything but the head is Sharpie'd

Re: DarkArtist's Creations of DOOM!

That's a great idea!

I think it might be difficult to match the blacks and reds exactly to the head doing it this way, but it's still an interesting idea. I suppose it'd also be good to use sharpies for "touch-ups" on the scratched paint. Maybe you could show us how it turned out, even if it is a bit scratched up?

By the way, where's your Leggy? I'm eager to see what you did!!
