nothing new from my hands here (well, kinda), just the latest (amazing) repaint of my Anakin re-sculpt done by FigureMasterLes. The man is just incredible

just a couple of pics of my desk as I was working today.... First up we have that famous 80's punk band "the 3 Anis" :rotfl

eighties.jpg

followed by my 'original' piece which i have down for reference whenever i feel like checking something (even though I work from photos... sometimes it's nice to check it against the piece i know I'm happy with.... just to make sure)

(dont ask me why i did these in black & white..... just liked the look of it I guess. I'll probably post the colour versions in a few days or something)

I was thinking they looked like those crazy statues from the Moloko Milk Bar in Clockwork Orange. :lol

No joke!!! Those literally scared the hell out of me when I saw them! Damn Darren! Your style is scary! :D But cool! :D

Amazing stuff... I love the diversity in the Anakin repaints.
I'm pretty new here, but I have a question. Forgive me if it has been asked and answered.
Has a tutorial been posted on how to cast heads? I'd love to make some extra clone heads and wouldn't have a clue to do it.
(sorry if this is a bad place to ask)

Nice to see the Ripley head on your desk. Hopefully, someday we'll see a Nostromo Ripley and T1 Sarah! Here's to that Darren! :D

thanks guys...... that last pic turned out really great. Even better when I converted it into b&w. It looks really staged... but I literally picked it up with one hand off the shelf above, and plonked it down on my desk onto the small boxes (drawers) that have my brushes and paints in..... and thought i should take a pic to show that I was workign from the original. It was that quick. Pick up, put down, snap. lol. Then i just cropped it a little thinner to focus it on the figure a bit more.

but it looks like a really good 'studio' style pic... i'm well pleased with it.

and yeah..... the Anakins do look well scary, lol. Its just how i paint heads.... white primer... eyes.... pinky/red flesh around the eyes.... then skin tones etc

pjam - once Ripley is done for this commission... I will be turning it into a Alien (1) version... and hopefully a 'get away from her you female dog!' version too ... lmao. And yes... if i get commissioned... or if I get the chance to do it in the future there'll be a T1 Sarah. Once I'm done with my backlog, maybe I'll ask one of you to send me their head so I can make a cast and work on that

mrhatrulez - read this thread at the link below, that's the method I use. I just went onto google though... and did lots of searching/research on how to make resin casts.... how to make silicone molds... molding/casting tutorials... etc

and did LOTS of reading :)

Darren Carnall interview on ToysrEvil

I wasn't sure whether to make a new thread about this but I figured I'd put it here for now. A short while back I had a short chat with Andy from the cool site ToysrEvil (I check it out most days, it's a really cool site showcasing new collectible toys/figures coming out), and this interview has just been showcased on the front page.

Here's a direct link to the full page :chew

Wacky-Cool video bro! That was too cool for school!
:chew
Great to see! And you must do more!

And I for one WANT A GENERAL ZOD!!! :D
Badly! Let me know on that one!

Rock on Darren! :rock

Thanks Les... I'm halfway through editing a Lord of the Rings vid for Aragorn and Legolas. I'll probably turn it into a regular thing.

I've just finished the latest three Anakins I was doing (took me weeks this time... kept getting interrupted) so here's 6 pics showing the progress through the stages and layers of painting. There's only 6 pics, but I probably did about 11 or 12 layers of paint on the skin alone, building up the base colour... going over with a highlight colour, re-adding some blush and shadows and then going over with more dry brushes of various shades to get it looking just right. So the 6 pics is a very simplified version... lol

and then the Ani's together with an Obi-Wan...

Thanks Darren,
Can't wait for a Nos Rip...

As for Sarah, if you can't find a donor head, ONEYE was kind enough to send me an extra Sarah, hate to see her go but if duty calls, well, having a T1 Sarah is more important to me and i'm sure many collectors out there as it have NEVER been done before so let me know when the time comes...

Nice progress shots Darren! It's cool to see how any artist's work comes along, and yours being as nice as they are it really is a treat to get an inside view into how it all comes together. :rock
