Re: Darth Vader (Mythos) Statue

Actually these earlier sculpts are pretty off BUT they did correct the mask in subsequent versions :) the version they showed at comic con was pretty damn good....
So I consider this bought

Compared to their sixth scale efforts, even the early stuff is more accurate.

Re: Darth Vader (Mythos) Statue

Vaders head should not be in proportion to his body. He went from being an average size guy to an absolute towering monster when the suit went on. If anything, emphasizing the scale of machine vs man only strengthens the piece. The sculpt is a representation of Vader reflecting on himself and what the machine has made him.

In that pic two posts above me. It looks like a big nick in the black paint on his chest, and it also looks like there are scrapes in the red paint starting in the chest going to the arm. Does it look like that in person?

Re: Darth Vader (Mythos) Statue

You are not corrupting me with this filth! :pfft:

I'm pretty excited about this one it doesn't look too bad. I know pics 90% of the time are an inaccurate depiction of the actual piece.

I was loving this until I noticed something... the eyes on the proto were looking to his right. Made it look evil and sinister. The photo on the previous page kinda looks like he's looking down?

That's more like it! Thanks for the pics N3rdgasm.
Still not sure if I'm sold on that one, I'll have to see how it looks in-hand. Now to wait for the weekend to pass.

If this doesn't turn out spectacularly I will wait for Kenobi to decide if I am getting into this line..

I agree. From the pics I've seen the overall quality (paint, texture...) looks ok but not outstanding and considering the next pieces are going to require much more detail....
Again I'll wait till I have him in-hand for final decision.

Re: Darth Vader (Mythos) Statue

I said it was a cool sculpt it's just the head is not in proportion to the body regardless of body suit bulk. That is obvious in the pic I was referencing. You can choose to see it or not. The small head bugs me but I very much like this piece overall and will probably order it. I will leave the gushing to you. :wave

:exactly: we are paying more and more for these things so I'm not kissing anyone's ***! :)

DK does good pics too. I'm not sure if he ordered it or not though. If he did I’m sure we will get a fantastic review as well.

Looking at the pic added a few padges back I can't help but to disagree with you.
As Mr. Nice Guy said: "Vaders head should not be in proportion to his body. He went from being an average size guy to an absolute towering monster when the suit went on."

The suit made Anakin a modern version of the monster of Frankenstein, but than in a black suit with all kind of devices to keep him alive.

From this point of view you can see that the head/neck piece are in scale with how we saw Vader in ROTJ. :wink1:

Well after taking good look I decided to return mine. 3 Things bother me about it:

1) Again same SS stuff sloppy paint application.
2) Got a closer look at the eyes, indeed they are off on both heads.
3) The color on his body is a different shade than the color on his face.

The sculpt looks good, just the same QC issues from SS that keep ruining good statues. Please make it stop SS!!!!

Re: Darth Vader (Mythos) Statue

I feel after the Darth Maul, this one might be a mess if SS don't get the paint right with that reflection effect they have going on it. Mythos line cancelled for me.

Couldn't agree more. The paint on Maul looks fine but one dimensional and not very subtle. They appear to have used basic highlights and inks to generate depth to the paint, not subtle. The only thing I can assume they will is paint the statue as normal by hand and then have a special person/team add the orange effects with an air brush. I was under the assumption all or most of their pieces were brush painted so this new effect would seem to require new technology. That said, a decent airbrusher could probably knock this out with no problems. BUT we may see major variation from piece to piece in terms of how effective it is. I expect it to disappoint like a THUD simply because of the mood lighting they are using to market the piece.

Absolutely will not be purchasing this piece. I was hoping for a definitive Darth Maul, thanks SS. Anyone have a suggestion for a good Darth M. piece?

oh boy.. IM worried now ... will judge mine tuesday.. but these are not really good things to read...

guess after the mythos the PF is a good choice..
