It's still overpriced, the new Sauron is only $899. Maybe when people stop accepting that being gouged for a Star Wars product is ok, then the prices will change :lol

2k for this is obscene.

HCG's 1:1 Dark Knight is pretty impressive next to my 1:1 Iron Man Bust.

I just feel, if I'm going to spend this kind of money it needs to be perfect. I won't be buying a LSF if they don't get their house in order with the line. Their Indiana Jones won't be shown until they fix that awful script and have a better quality jacket, or at least that's what we're hoping.

Sauron looks like a steal in comparison with any LSF . The packaging looks great, but this piece doesn't look as good as the other 2 1:2 scale pieces floating around right now IMO.

Sauron, Sauron, Sauron...

Let's wait until that glowing lava paintjob makes it's way to us mere mortals before we crown it. It won't look like the prototype so let's keep our expectations realistic at $900.

I agree. For what we get, everything should be perfect. $2k ! I am the most avid Maul fan and even I am passing due to inaccuracies and scaling. :gah:

You are right , you have HCG and their stuff and we are paying more for something better. Looking disproportionate is unacceptable at this price point and scale. Hands, boots, saber, head and clothes. They didn't even have to work hard on the body, and they still could not get it right. :slap

I agree that scaling could have been better judging by the pics we have seen. There is little excuse for the lightsaber to be that noticeably large way back from SDCC and not address it.

That said, at $350 for a PF or at $2,000 for an LSF you will never get perfection. I just think that we have become a little bit disensitized at spending $350 for a statue with a large curve for forgiving flaws if it's a character you like. The PF is the standard scale so is a take it or leave it proposition. It will probably be the one 1/4 scale chance to get your favorite character. People overlook obvious lazy eyes and such all the time. On the other hand, the $2,000 LSF tag triggers something different with feelings of indignation and demands for perfection. What if a collector has decided to collect mostly LSF. They got the space and they cut down on PF's. Is he crazy for compromising in this price range? He is probably spending as much a year as those collectors with 15 PFs in their order history.

Either way, most comments I read on these type of threads are people joining on the nitpicking and looking for an excuse to pass. It's easier to reinforce why you should not spend $2,000 than look for reasons to spend that much for a larger scale piece. I can see the flaws, but I also see how someone may be attracted to the overall package if this scale is their focus and they are a huge Maul fan.

I think at five times the price, it is expected that certain things will not be there. There is a demand for "more" perfection or a better product, not just a bigger product with different flaws.

Like anything in collecting, it is a matter of choice and preference. I as lover of Maul, not a lover of a format, expected my character to be amazing, especially at the price point. 5.71 times the price of the average PF at this point for a piece 2x the size and with serious display issues. And to have these issues from proto to production and know of them as any view could see is unacceptable and Sideshow praying on the collectors as a hole.

I agree with your first paragraph. The expectation for something high quality as close to the proto (the one thing we base our purchases on when a piece goes up for order) should be there for all pieces purchased. The reality sometimes comes very close to it. Other times not so much. That unfortunately is the nature of the hobby no matter what scale we look at.

We can all vote with our dollars, but then again we all know the fandom for these characters and properties sometimes makes you compromise when trying to take a stand. Sideshow counts on that weakness as they sell their products and increasing edition sizes reinforce their logic: A collector is not necessarily the most rational of beings when it comes to spending money. There is more of a mob mentality on what is cool and what isn't when it comes to discussing items in forums. They don't need to sell you the items. We sell the items to ourselves through forum discussions.

That's why I don't believe on Sideshow preying on collectors. We have a choice to purchase or not depending on what they put out there. It's just a hard choice to make if you love the character or a statue enough to compromise which is what probably happens given the limited choices for high quality statues outside of Sideshow. Cost aside and obvious issues with it, personally, I don't think Maul LSF is undisplayable but our tolerance varies from collector to collector.

:goodpost:

Well put, and your thoughts and reflections are in my opinion very true.

On Sideshow Website it says in stock for this bad boy. Anyone receive him yet or get a Charge/Shipping notice??? Would love to see some pics of this guy. :)

To those who own this piece, what is the sculpting like underneath Maul's clothes?

To me this appears to be the sum of a Legendary scale (1:2) bust with a huge saber, sculpted hands, and boots attached to what could be a mannequin's body for all I know with a nice robe draped around it all. I'm not saying that's all it is, so feel free to enlighten me, but from the outside looking in, that's what it looks like.

Well here goes used my rewards points and I pulled the trigger on the Darth Maul LSF today. Cant wait to see this next to my Cinemaquette Darth Vader. two of my favorite villians

How many points did you spend? Did you decide it was worth spending your points on this piece, despite the fact that this means you won't get points from this item?
