I love the Elm studio Maul bust and the Emperor one as well. I was in contact with Bjorn last summer and I was priced with shipping and everything but something came up and he wasn't able to do one for me. I'm not sure it was timing or he just wasn't doing anymore. They seemed pretty busy because I waited weeks for responses. As for the LSF vs the the bust it all depends what you like. Maybe a 1:1 portrait without a body is not for some but IMO I love the 1:1 bust lines. I wish I had room for more. As for the LSF I really do think it looks pretty good but I still can't get over the scale and how it looks like a midget instead of a scaled statue. This bothered me from the beginning when the first photos came out at SDCC last summer. I'm sure it looks a lot better in person but I had to pass even being a huge Maul fan. I do want to say congrats to all who received this statue and love it. Great feeling when you get a statue and can't stoping looking at it. I still can't stop looking at my Mythos Maul I think my wife is getting jealous.
Bjorn had some production and family problems and that is why they were delayed on many projects. But I guess you should try to contact him again some day.
Have to disagree with you wholeheartedly on that. I have one of the 10 Emperor Palpatine busts and it's the most accurate representation of the character yet as far as I'm concerned. Take a look at it and then at the Sideshow bust below. Bjorn's bust is so much better it's not even funny.....even more of a discrepancy than the Kia/Lamborghini comparison I posted above.
The fact that many more than 20 people were interested in this Emperor bust, can say something about the high quality of Cyberman sculpt & Elm-Studios/Bjorn finishing. And most of those are serious prop collectors, who have items in their collections most of us can only dream about. Just a simple example: Philip Wise. Gino has this sculpt in his collection as well. Bjorn delayed the bust release even because the fabric hood he got was not enough accurate to the screen used one. Glad I got this bust, it really is a piece of art.
Neither of them look like Ian. In fact, the Elm one looks more like Daniel Craig in the makeup than Ian. The nose is wrong and the eyes, oye! He looks like he's about to start crying. There's a reason you have him displayed with the face nearly all covered up...lol! I'll give Sideshow credit for atleast getting the face features right, but that expression is aweful! Nice attempt by Elm, but ultimately a fail. Now that Maul bust on the other hand....
Not sure if you are aware of one thing regarding ROTJ Emperor: he was NEVER seen without special lighting during the movies. He is not like Maul, Vader, Luke, Leia etc. Not even like Senator/Chancellor Palpatine from the Prequels. The light was always been directed on the ROTJ Emperor on special angles. ALWAYS. Even when coming down from the Imperial shuttle, and especially in the throne room scenes. Just read a bit about how they filmed him and you'll understand.
This is not a character bust you can display anywhere, it needs a special setup and lighting.
Personally I never really liked the Sideshow Palpatine bust, I passed on it numerous times, it had that weird grin which was not too ROTJ, but more PT. I always wanted an Emperor as seen in ROTJ, and this was it: the apparently calm, but evil and powerful Emperor, who manipulated everyone including Vader, Luke and the Rebels, who looked aged, but in fact, behind the old man mask, well hidden, there were the real Dark Force powers. This bust really shows that hidden power of the Emperor.
Besides you are among the only 3 persons I know who said this doesn't look like ROTJ Emperor (again, when lighted properly). I prefer this bust to the Sideshow version without any doubt, and the same with the overpriced stubby Maul LSF. But in the end to each his own
What did one of those cost though? (they do look amazing)
Waaaay less than the LSF Maul
Under $1000 by quite a lot.
That Emperor bust by Bjorn does look good.
