Re: Darth Vader life-size Bust

I can't say that I do.
I've made stuff for close friends in the past.
If I was going to offer what I have to the public, I'd want to do it through an official licensed company.

.

Wow wow wow...I have seen you hawking your stormtrooper helmets on EBAY several times.

Re: Darth Vader life-size Bust

?
I have only sold a few trooper helmets on ebay and that was years ago when I was thinning out my collection. You must have me confused with someone else.

Re: Darth Vader life-size Bust

I'm going to assume you meant to type "love" there, or else I'm still confused. :D You don't earn points on things you spend points on, so assuming this will cost $1000 (just for the sake of argument), you would lose $50 in points just to get that $100 discount.

Oh, and maybe we should save talk about accuracy for after we've seen more than a few glimpses of the bust.

Well I meant no matter how much I hate cancelling the order for this bust.

And yeah, I was thinking simply from a savings and cancellation perspective, I hadn't even considered that I'd get no points for the order, definitely better off earning them from this if I can't save half or more off the cost with RPs.

Re: Darth Vader life-size Bust

I wasn't going to post any critique/comments as I didn't want people to think that I have an axe to grind (which I genuinely don't). Not to mention, when I posted in the 1:6 vader thread, I upset a lot of people even thought that was not my intention.

Here is what I think of this piece.
If you compare it to the last company who did it (I forget their name), this new one blows it out of the water.
It is a nice 'representation' of vader.

I would like to point out though, that there were two reveal masks, one in ESB, and one in ROTJ. The faceplate separated in different places. Also, in the films, Vader doesn't wear a cape while in his meditation chamber.

If you are looking for something that is authentic to what was used on set for the film, then this piece is not for you. MANY aspects are off, or just plain wrong.

I know that the target demo for this piece is not the 'prop collector', but I just fail to see why pieces couldn't be made to a higher standard that would satisfy that group as well (or at least satisfy it more so). It surely wouldn't cost any more.
It would only take the right connections (cough) and a company willing and able to recognize the value in faithful accurate products.

Just for the record, here is my bust. It is ESB authentic and derived directly from real screen used pieces. A ROTJ could just as easily be done.
Of course, for my display, it is not a reveal piece.

There are more pics of this bust on my site.

Thanks for posting Gino - I'm glad you aren't put off by this crowd.

I'm looking at your pic and at what we have to go on for the SSC piece and I can't see any difference. Could you point out what the differences are?

No problem and thanks.

I don't mind the jabs. I try hard not to take it personally. We are ALL SW fans after all. We all want the same stuff (for the most part).
I realize some of my posts can put people off at times, but that is the problem with the internet. If you met me in real life, you'd see right away that my real world personality is much different than how I might come across online.

As far as the differences, the things that stand out to me are the inherent shape of the dome, faceplate, and armor. Also features like the tusks, the grills, the cape hook, are not correct for any film version of Vader. I'm sure that's not all, but just what I could see from limited pics.

When more clear pics of this piece surface, I can make some comparisons that will more easily illustrate these things.

Re: Darth Vader life-size Bust

Out of curiousity, how would you keep the cape in place without the hook?

I'm sure it's there to keep the bust cape in place, though I think it could be a bit smaller and less obvious. Very much like what Medicom did with their Vader figures.

Re: Darth Vader life-size Bust

In ANH and ESB, Vader did not have a cape hook on his armor.
Only the ROTJ armor has it.
It was an improvement made to the costume to keep the cape from choking Prowse.

PS, it doesn't look anything like what is currently on the bust.

Earth magnets maybe :D

Re: Darth Vader life-size Bust

Maybe everybody noticed this but me, but I just noticed that they have reflections of the two stages of the "reveal" in the bust's eyes.

Re: Darth Vader life-size Bust

I love it, but the chain does look weird and you can see his 'skin' and neck under the mask when it's on. I'm going to display it off anyway, but still.

Re: Darth Vader life-size Bust

The images of the reveal in his eyes were the first thing I noticed... then of course the video gives it all away.

I'm so stoked for this :rock But also terrified of the price.

I mentioned it to the wife, so I've got a disgruntled agreement. But it will require budgeting (for real on my part) and probably selling and/or canceling some stuff. Must haves in the past are now maybes in the face of this.

Re: Darth Vader life-size Bust

This is so mine...the only Star Wars piece I need aside from my Maul bust.

Re: Darth Vader life-size Bust

My 12 inch figures are now standing nervously... they're drawing straws to see who goes first. :p

Re: Darth Vader life-size Bust

whoa! life-size bust! :google

can't really see much from the teaser, but it does look pretty complex, what with all the layers--- helmet/breathing apparatus/face. i assume they've gotten the likeness rights for sebastian shaw, or it would be pretty disappointing to reveal his face and not recognize the old man version of anakin.

in any case, unless it's under US$600 (which i doubt) i don't think i'll be able to afford this. sigh. :(

Re: Darth Vader life-size Bust

The very small nit I have at this point is the tilt of the head, I will have to wait until I see it in-person; but normally I like the 1:1's to be pointing straight ahead.
