Re: DC's "Suicide Squad" (August 5th, 2016)

the first two vols were actually pretty good

Eh, maybe as a rip-off of Ellis' T-Bolts (which was a rip-off of the OG Squad) maybe. But as Suicide Squad books? Hell no. Just read the OG stuff by Ostrander and you'll see the difference in quality.

So what you guys are saying is there's been no version of Deadshot done correctly outside of the pre nu52.

Not really. Gail Simone's Secret Six featured a great version of Deadshot. SS: AOA also featured a semi-good Deadshot as well. Arrow, which took lots of liberties, also portrayed Deadshot fairly. Pre-NU52 Deadshot is classic Deadshot, so that's the version most people regard as the "true" Deadshot. Same with Superman, Batman and the like. The Nu52 versions may be canon, but some if not most, still cling to those beloved versions. And honestly, death wish Deadshot is much more interesting than New52 Deadshot.

Though Smith's Floyd does have this "I am the Light, I am the Way" quote on his collar and in the set photos he was looking dapper (a reference to his first appearance in Batman as a gentleman in all black clothes and a giant hat who wanted to become Gotham's new protector), so I have faith that there's more than meets the eye to this version. Plus, Ayer can handle damaged characters really well (see the whole cast of Fury), so I'm not that worried. I will be dissapointed if "you all jokers must be crazy" is the only Deadshot we get though.

Re: DC's "Suicide Squad" (August 5th, 2016)

But to me Arrow's Deadshot seems very similar to Smith's version in this later trailer, at least by his third or fourth appearance in the show. Like bboy, I don't know much about him aside from Nu52. I've seen Deadshot 3 times in animation and always he seems like a guy full of himself.

Arrow's version was cold, calculating, was suffering from PTSD and didn't really crack jokes. Besides, I never said he was a perfect adaptation, just a good one. I'd suggest tracking down a couple issues. There are ways to obtain them without wasting mad cash... Still, as I said, I have faith that he'll be more in line with classic Deadshot in the movie, but to say that what we've seen is a perfect translation of the character to the big screen is just not true.

Re: DC's "Suicide Squad" (August 5th, 2016)

I wish I knew more about deadshot, but everything I've seen of him was pretty 2 dimensional. I have read the first 3 vols of the new 52 suicide squad and I don't even remember him if he was in there.
From my recollection, he was a very interesting, distinct kind of character in his mini-series from the mid-late '80s. But as pointed out, not like a typical Will Smith character. Because he did have a cold, mercenary type personality when it came to killing.

Re: DC's "Suicide Squad" (August 5th, 2016)

And all this time I thought Leto spent time with Lil' Wayne :dunno

Jared Leto Spent Time With Institutionalized Psychopaths To Prepare For Joker Role In Suicide Squad

"There are a lot of things. It’s probably better to not get into it but to the Joker, violence is a symphony. This is someone who gets an extreme reward from the act of violence and manipulation. Those are the songs he sings and he is very in tune with what makes people tick. I did meet with people that were experts, doctors, psychiatrists that dealt with psychopaths and people who had committed horrendous crimes, and then I spent some time with those people themselves, people who have been institutionalized for great periods of time. I guess when you take on a role, any role, you become part detective, part writer, and for me that’s my favorite time of the entire process, the discovering, the uncovering, and the building of a character. Yeah, it’s really fun."

"It was challenging but it was also fun. He has a great sense of humor, depending on who you ask. [Laughs]"

A man after Snyder's heart.

I worked in a psych. treatment facility many years ago, and did deal with people who had no moral compass whatsoever. One guy I'm sure would have as soon shot me as said hello. Not my idea of fun, but obviously, YMMV.

He was always snarky with Diggle and the PTSD was only addressed in one episode if I remember right but it's probably best not to focus on Arrow when it comes to accuracy.

Re: DC's "Suicide Squad" (August 5th, 2016)

Well, as a person who has such folks in his intermediate circle of family and friends, I'm sure he wouldn't say it's "fun" if he met them outside of the bulletproof glass...

Yeah, as I said, it wasn't a perfect adaptation, but it was good enough. Besides, Deadshot is snarky, he uses sarcasm from time to time. He just doesn't make straight-up jokes, or laughs or is in general a jolly guy.

Re: DC's "Suicide Squad" (August 5th, 2016)

See, I never saw the Joker as someone who was *just* a violent psychotic. I always assumed he just liked ****ing with people. I feel like him just being violent is too simple. To me, The Joker is a guy who you and your family would come home to find in your house one night, who'd tie you and everyone you love to a chair and psychologically torment you, convince you that these were your last moments on earth, and have you pissing yourself in sheer terror, and then, he'd thank you for the fun night and leave $10 grand in stolen cash on your lap.

I think this panel (AU I know) sums it up perfectly:

Re: DC's "Suicide Squad" (August 5th, 2016)

Yeah, he's got elements of real life psychos, but obviously, no real life psycho ever behaved like the Joker. Not even ones influenced by him like that ****** who shot up the movie theater.

>What is this? Cheerleading tryouts?
>So, we're the patsies
>Let's go save the world

That all sounds good to me. The only thing that sounded out of place was "I was just trying to get you there, we gud right?"
