Re: DC's "Suicide Squad" (August 5th, 2016)

Yeah if I had to pick one single movie to link it to it'd be GotG but even in typing this very sentence I'm reminded of the myriad of differences in characters, tone, structure, plot, etc., between SS and GotG.

SS is most definitely darker in tone. It's fun, but there's a constant caveat. So many of the characters are grieving; Harley is shown to be in that strange, brutal relationship with the Joker; and she is also shown to have been an accomplice in Robin's death. (The graffitied Robin suit in BvS recalls the humiliations Joker inflicted on Gordon and his daughter in the Killing Joke).

Re: DC's "Suicide Squad" (August 5th, 2016)

I have no doubt that all the extra scenes will make it onto the blu-ray. The question is whether they're reinserted into the movie. If you've got the director publicly stating that the finished cut is the best then I tend to take them at their word. I don't think it's just him not wanting to be another whiny Josh Trank type since there are diplomatic ways to say "I like the theatrical version but if I ever get the chance I'd love to release a longer version as well." James Cameron did that with ALIENS and his wish was granted with no bad blood between him and Fox. Peter Jackson did it too and most recently Zack Snyder with BvS. But Ayers just doesn't seem to feel that way about SS.

Re: DC's "Suicide Squad" (August 5th, 2016)

I think it was just that killing Bats was the means to him being free, and able to stay involved with his daughter more than his being evil deep down. He kills people for money, so I guess he is evil from that POV. But I do think she was planting their "true" desires in their minds. And it is true that the others just wanted love and romance. So it is another weird thing. That Harley would want a conventional life with Joker makes zero sense to me. You don't fall for Joker because you want a guy with at 9 to 5 and two children.

And yet, she's "crazier" than Joker :dunno Also, Diablo's fantasy was for his kids to be asleep so that he could have sex with his dead wife :lol

Re: DC's "Suicide Squad" (August 5th, 2016)

I think Ayer may have been learning the lessons from Trank of what not to do :lol But it's also very possible that this is the movie he wanted. As I said earlier, I don't think you can put all of this on the shoulders of the producers, good or bad. There were too many things that the director should have had control over.

It is funny when you put it that way, but with Diablo it made the most sense of all--he just wanted his old life back. And it also made sense that he would be the first to snap out of it, since he had been dealing with that fantasy head on in a way no one else really could.

Well she's nuts so her desires probably shouldn't make sense. I actually like the idea that normal Harleen Quinzel wanted an adventurous life with an enigmatic criminal but crazy Harley wants to settle down with him. :)

Or at the very least Harley wants to settle down with Joker but then like Heath Ledger said if she got her wish she'd be like a dog who caught a car and then didn't know what to do with it.

I took it that when she threw the Puddin' dog collar away she was free of the Joker's spell.

But she's crazy too. He's in her head, she can never give him up, but she longs for a normal life with the normal side of him that's buried in there somewhere.

Apparently someone was so upset about the cut Joker & Katana scenes that they're threatening to take legal action for it.

Yes, he's so annoyed his part was cut there's no telling what he'll do next...

there's honestly not much joker cut from the film, the Harley/Joker shooting scene was used in the movie, just briefly. other then that the only thing I can think of as far as cut out is joker opening the suitcase. of course there's alternative takes, and rumors of other scenes (a la TDK) but joker is there to emphasize Harley's story. this isn't his movie to shine.

Yes, his scene was much bigger. He was told that Stallone was going to come in for a cameo and beat him to pulp.

He was even going to do it without a stunt double as well.

Dang, poor guy. It looks like he really went all in for his role, just like Leto. :monkey2
Rooting for his scene to be included in the ultimate cut.

They cut a scene of the Joker showing up towards the end of the movie in the subway, still dressed in the tux with a burnt face. He throws a grenade and escapes after Harley refuses to leave with him.

that's right! :duff I felt like I left one out, that's the scene I would have liked to see included in the most. I know Ayer doesn't want an extended version, but maybe an alternative cut? I'd pay money for either.

Someone should start a petition for that extended cut. :lecture :lol
