Re: DC's "Suicide Squad" (August 5th, 2016)
I think you guys are looking too far into this, Joker was and will always be (regardless of cut) the wildcard in the movie, and a character to flesh out Harley to introduce to general audiences. That's his purpose in this movie, he doesn't have some kind of philosophical or social point to prove like the first time we saw other Joker's on the silver screen.
Sure, he cares about Harley. But he also views her as property. Leto did great with the little film time he had. We'll see him in a much larger role in a few years.
1. mental abuse to the point where she would get a machine gun for a patient.
2. electro shock torture
3. bout left her ass to drown in ACE (she can't swim)
4. ditches her when the bat comes around.
Not too mention there's a lot of un-showed time between these events, none of us know how bad the abuse was/is.
I swear some of you guys thought this movie was titled "Joker".
It's a movie packed to the brim with characters. The most important ones being the Suicide Squad. this is their story, not a batman/joker adventure.
it wasn't a guy, it was a stripper wearing a batmask.
JFC, some of yall need to see the movie again.
Joker's obsessions in SS were certainly limited to just Harley but I kind of liked how the movie presented him as if we the audience were just getting a peek at him as in here is "a day in the life of Joker".
We weren't privy to his grand plan, no big speeches on how he ran his empire or how he was going to go after Batman or commit more crimes, it was just him on a mission for Harley, Batman and Society in general taking a back seat....for now.
Maybe he needs her, or more than likely is using her, for something bigger that he's planning for later on.
I also liked how he carried himself during the limited time he was utilized.
So yeah I can see why fans think he served no purpose, but for me he was concentrating on one mission, Harley.
Hopefully we see why he risked so much for her in a later movie.

my point is that the flashback reinforces that he DOES care about her and rescuing her was not done because of a mission but because he loves her so much

Why didn't he kill the guy that was basically grinding on Harley why she was dancing? He gets a pass but the guy that gives him a compliment he kills.
